Behavior of heavy metals and arsenic in the tailings of Songcheon Au-Ag mine was characterized via both mineralogical and geochemical methods. Mineral composition of the tailings was investigated by X-ray diffractometry, energy-dispersive spectroscopy, and electron probe micro-analyzer (EPMA) and total concentrations of heavy metals and arsenic and their chemical forms were analyzed by total digestion of aqua regia and sequential extraction method, respectively. The results of mineralogical study indicate that the tailings included mineral particles of resinous shape mainly consisting of galena, sphalerite, pyrite, quartz, and scorodite, and specifically socordite was identified in the form of matrix. EPMA quantitative analyses were performed to evaluate the weatherability of each mineral, and the results suggest that it decreased in the sequence of arsenopyrite > galena > sphalerite > pyrite. The weathering pattern of galena was observed to show distinctive zonal structure consisting of secondary minerals such as anglesite and beudantite. In addition, almost all of arsenopyrite has been altered to scorodite existing asmatrix and galena, sphalerite, and pyrite which have lower weatherability than arsenopyrite were identified within the matrix of scorodite. During the process of alteration of arsenopyrite into scorodite, it is likely that a portion of arsenic was lixiviated and caused a great deal of detrimental effects to surrounding environment. The results of EPMA quantitative analyses verify that the stability of scorodite was relatively high and this stable scorodite has restrained the weathering of other primary minerals within tailings as a result of its coating of mineral surfaces. For this reason, Songcheon tailings show the characteristics of the first weathering stage, although they have been exposed to the surface environment for a long time. Based on the overall results of mineralogical and geochemical studies undertaken in this research, if the tailings are kept to be exposed to the surface environment and the weathering process is continuous, not only hazardous heavy metals, such as lead and arsenic seem to be significantly leached out because their larger portions are being partitioned in weakly-bound (highly-mobile) fractions, but the potential of arsenic leaching is likely to be high as the stability of scorodite is gradually decreased. Consequently, it is speculated that the environmental hazard of Songcheon mine is significantly high.

The antioxidative activity and the related parameters of hot water extracts obtained from 16 medicinal plants were tested. The extraction yield was the highest in Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge $(36.49\%)$ pH range was $4.00\~5.92$ in all samples. Absorbance at 280 nm was examined to determine aromatic compounds content. The absorbance of $250{\mu}g/mL$ sample was the highest in Prunella vulgaris Linne var. lilacina Nakai (2.872) and below 0.5 in Cirsium maackii, Crataegus pinnatifida Bunge and Zizyphus jujuba Miller. Also, absorbance at 420 nm was high in order of Prunella vulgaris Linne vu. lilacina Nakai (1.312), Zea mays Linne (0.917) and Inula japonica Thunberg (0.725) Total phenolic compounds contents was the highest in Prunella vulgaris Linne var. lilacina Nakai $(5.07{\pm}0.05\;mg/100g)$ and flavonoids contents was 2-fold higher in Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge $(4.82{\pm}1.16\;mg/100g)$ than the other samples. Electron donating abilities of Zizyphus jujuba Miller, Cornus officinalis Siebold et Zuccarini and Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge were over $90\%$ at $1000{\mu}g/mL$. Reducing power had similar tendency to electron donating ability while reducing power was significantly lower in samples compared to BHT. Two samples (Prunella vulgaris Linne val. lilacina Nakai and Inula japonica Thunberg) were found to have more than $50\%$ nitrite scavenging effect at $500{\mu}g/mL$ while 8 kinds samples (Zizyphus jujuba Miller, Cornus officinalis Siebold 81 Zuccarini, Chrysanthemum indicum Linne, Prunella vulgaris Linne var. lilacina Nakai, Inula japonica Thunberg, Acanthopanax sessiliflorum Seeman, Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge and Curcuma longa Linne) showed more than $50\%$ nitrite scavenging effect at $1000{\mu}g/mL$. Prunella vulgaris Linne var. lilacina Nakai showed significantly stronger nitrite scavenging effect than other samples, and its activity was $59.62{\pm}1.573\%$ and $80.58{\pm}0.300\%$ at concentrations of 250 and $1000{\mu}g/mL$, respectively.
In this study, the antioxidant compounds and antioxidant activities of adzuki beans were measured to evaluate their functional properties and to compare them to Daepung and Taekwang. Proximate compositions and mineral contents of the various adzuki beans were not significantly different. A high level of dietary fiber (14.81%) was found in Chilbopat. The extraction yields of Daepung and Taekwang were 38.70 and 34.61%, respectively; however the yields of the various adzuki beans were lower at 13.78-20.76%. The total polyphenol and flavonoid content of the various adzuki beans were 19.00-34.75 and 12.97-28.95 mg/g, respectively (Daepung: 14.40 and 3.96 mg/g, Taekwang: 10.7 and 2.61 mg/g). High levels of polyphenols (34.75 mg/g) and flavonoids (28.95 mg/g) were found in Miryang 6. The total anthocyanin and proanthocyanidin contents of the various adzuki beans ranged from 5.89-23.77 and 1.83-3.29 mg/g, respectively. A high level of total tocopherol content (7.66 mg/100 g) was found in Yungum-pat. High levels of ABTS radical (2.44 mg TEAC/mg extract residue) and DPPH radical scavenging activities (4.46 mg TEAC/mg extract residue) were found in Miryang 6. A significant correlation was also noted between free radical scavenging activity and polyphenolic compound content. The results of this study suggest that notable antioxidant activities in various adzuki beans could have significant health benefits.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the viability of periodontal ligament cell in rat teeth using slow cryopreservation method with magnetic field through MTT assay and TUNEL test. For each group, 12 teeth of 4 weeks old white female Sprague-Dawley rat were used for MTT assay, and 6 teeth in TUNEL test. The Maxillary left and right, first and second molars were extracted as atraumatically as possible under tiletamine anesthesia. The experimental groups were group1 (immediately extraction), group 2 (cold preservation at 4$^{\circ}C$ for 1 week), group 3 (rapid cryopreservation in liquid nitrogen), group 4 (slow cryopreservation with magnetic field of 1 G), and group 5 (slow cryopreservation). F medium was used as preservation medium and 10% DMSO as cryoprotectant. After preservation and thawing, the MTT assay and TUNEL test were processed. One way ANOVA and Scheffe method were performed at the 95% level of confidence. The value of optical density obtained after MTT analysis was divided by the value of eosin staining for tissue volume standardization. In both MTT assay and TUNEL test, it had showed no significant difference among group 3, 4, and 5. And group 3 had showed higher viability of periodontal ligament cell than group 2. From this study, slow cryopreservation method with magnetic field can be used as one of cryopreservation methods.

This study was conducted to compare fragrance and volatile chemicals of essential oils in Gom-chewi (Ligularia fischeri) and Handaeri Gom-chewi (Ligularia fischeri var. spicifoprmis). Essential oils were extracted by steam distillation of leaves of Gom-chewi (GC) and Handaeri Gom-chewi (HGC), after which samples were collected by solid-phase micro extraction and the compositions of the essential oils were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The yields of the essential oils in GC and HGC were 0.12% and 0.04%, respectively, and the threshold levels of the essential oils in GC and HGC were 0.01% and 0.1%, respectively. There were 19 constituents of the essential oil of Gom-chewi: 14 carbohydrates, 4 alcohols, and 1 acetate, and the major constituents were L-${\beta}$-pinene (36.02%), D-limonene (25.64%), ${\alpha}$-pinene (24.85%) and ${\beta}$-phellandrene (5.39%). In the essential oil of HGC, 25 constituents were identified: 17 carbohydrates, 4 alcohols, 3 acetates, and 1 N-containing compound, and the major constituents of HGC were D-limonene (39.74%), L-${\beta}$-pinene (35.43%) and ${\alpha}$-pinene (11.94%). The minor constituents of HGC were ${\rho}$-cymene, ${\gamma}$-muurolene, ${\gamma}$-cadinene, germacrene D, ingol 12-acetate and butyl 9,12,15-octadecatriene and nimorazole were not identified in the GC essential oil. Overall, the results showed that the fragrance and chemical compositions of essential oils in GC and HGC differed, suggesting that both essential oils could be used for the development of perfumery products.

This study was conducted to determine the polyphenols, flavonoids and antioxidant activity (FRAP) of the extracts (crushed by hand or a homogenizer) of Rubus fruits (blackberry, Korean raspberry, black raspberry, boysenberry and golden raspberry) produced in Korea. In addition, their nitric oxide (NO) scavenging activity in RAW 264.7 cells and anti-proliferative activity in HT-29 and KATO-3 cells were investigated. Polyphenol and flavonoid contents in the Rubus fruits ranged from 0.6 to 8.9 and from 0.1 to 7.9 mg/g fresh fruit, respectively. Black raspberry had the highest polyphenol and flavonoid contents among the Rubus fruits. The homogenized extracts of blackberry, Korean raspberry and golden raspberry fruits showed significantly higher polyphenol and FRAP values than the hand-crushed extracts. FRAP values of the Rubus fruit extracts were significantly correlated with their polyphenol (R=0.995) and flavonoid (R=0.967) contents. The Rubus fruit extracts suppressed the NO secretions in LPS-treated RAW264.7 cells. There were no significant differences between extracts obtained by crushing by hand and those obtained using a homogenizer. Proliferation rates of HT-29 and KATO-3 cancer cells treated with the Rubus fruit extracts at 0.1, 0.25 and 0.5 mg/mL were reduced by 3~32% and 0~57%, respectively. The homogenized extracts of blackberry and Korean raspberry fruits had significantly higher anti-proliferation activity against HT-29 cancer cells than the hand-crushed extracts. However, extraction method did not show any significant difference on proliferation of KATO-3 cancer cells. The NO scavenging activity of the Rubus fruit extracts were significantly correlated with the anti-proliferation activities of the HT-29 (R=0.602) and KATO-3 cells (R=0.498).

I analyzed the correlation between El-Nino phenomenon and our country's temperature and precipitation laying the stress on the anomaly, and the result of this analysis is as follows: (1) The extraction of the occurrences of El-Nino at the place of sea surface around Nino.3 which was known as the sea area under observation for El-Nino reveals that there are 9 years (1969, 1970, 1973, 1977, 1987, 1992, 1995, 1998) when the temperature anomaly in January is more than 1.0 during the period of research years ($1969{\sim}1998$). (2) The tendency of change of sea surface temperature around Nino.3 and that of our country are about the same, but the anomaly of Pusan and Inchon was much greater than that of Jangki in the East Coast. (3) The anomaly of sea surface temperature around Nino.3 and that of the ground temperature showed the similar changing tendency, the temperature of our country has something to do with that of sea surface as the correlation of ground temperature with the temperature of sea surface showed 0.31. Anomaly warm winter has something to do with El-Nino because the temperature of our country was high when El-Nino phenomenon appeared. (4) As for the precipitation, we can see that it has generally increased after 1989 when the phenomenon of warm climate was intense than before that year. But as we study the change of anomaly, the precipitation has less correlation in comparison with the ground temperature. The precipitation in 1973, 1983 and 1987 which were El-Nino years was correlated with El-Nino. While the change of sea surface temperature has showed a tendency of plus(+)increase since 1990, the precipitation has showed a tendency of minus (-)decrease. Therefore it seems that the temperature of sea surface has little correlation with the amount of rainfall.

Coix lacryma-jobi var. ma-yuen (Rom. Caill.) Stapf (CL), which contains riboflavin and coixol, has traditionally been used to treat cancer and arthritis. However, no method for the simultaneous determination of riboflavin and coixol in CL sprouts has been established. In this study, we established and validated a high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array detection (HPLC-DAD) method for the identification and quantification of two reference markers, riboflavin and coixol, in CL sprout extracts. CL sprouts (whole sprouts and leaves) were subjected to extraction with 70% ethanol at room temperature and at 80 ℃ under reflux conditions. The two extractions were validated with respect to specificity, accuracy, precision, and linearity. The content of the two reference markers was highest in leaves extracted under reflux conditions (riboflavin, 8.23 ± 0.32 mg/g; coixol, 5.95 ± 0.04 mg/g). We also investigated the antioxidant activity of the extracts via 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS+) scavenging assays. The results indicated that extracts obtained from sprouts under reflux conditions had the strongest antioxidative effects (DPPH half maximal inhibitory concentration [IC50], 68.9 ± 4.1 g/mL; and ABTS, IC50, 34.9 ± 0.1 g/mL). These results can serve as baseline data for the simultaneous determination of the two reference marker compounds, riboflavin and coixol, and development of functional food materials using CL sprouts.
To develop the safe and natural antimicrobial agents, the 68 ethanol extracts from the 61 different kinds of oriental herbal medicine were prepared and their antimicrobial activities were evaluated. The herbal medicine used were from China (46 kinds), South Korea (14 kinds), North Korea (5 kinds) and Vietnam (3 kinds), respectively, and the root (27 species) was popular part in this study. The average water content and extraction ratio for ethanol were 7.10% and 6.75%, respectively. Determination of antimicrobial activity by disc-diffusion assay at 0.5 mg/disc concentration showed that the extract of Angelica tenuissima Nakai (china), Illicium verum, Junci medulla, Rhus javanica L., Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge and Syzygium aromaticum has strong antimicrobial activities against different food spoilage and pathogenic bacteria and fungi. Determination of MIC and MBC/MFC further showed that the extract of Syzygium aromaticum has MIC of 1.25 mg/mL and MBC/MFC of 1.25~5.00 mg/mL against Listeria monocytogenes, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhimurium, Proteus vulgaris, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. And, the extract of Junci medulla, Rhus javanica L. and Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge showed strong antibacterial activities with MIC of 0.08~0.63 mg/mL and MBC/MFC of 0.08~2.50 mg/mL against the tested bacteria except E. coli and P. aeruginosa. In a while, the results of hemolytic activity of 68 different herbal extracts against human red blood cells showed that the extract of Angelica tenuissima Nakai has hemolytic activity at 0.5 mg/mL concentration. Therefore, Illicium verum, Junci medulla, Rhus javanica L., Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge and Syzygium aromaticum were finally selected for natural antimicrobial resources. Further research on active substances and the mode of action of the selected herbal medicine is necessary.

In the course of study for the development of functional food using red beans (azuki beans, Phaseolus radiatus L.), the ethanol extracts from raw-red bean (RRB) and boiled-red bean (BRB) were prepared, and the components and various biological activities of both were compared. It was observed that the extraction yield, and the total polyphenol content, of the BRB were 1.2 times higher than that of the RRB. However, the contents of total flavonoid, total sugar and reducing sugar in the BRB were 30, 27.9 and 30.8% respectively when compared with those of RRB. In relation to antioxidative activity, both RRB and BRB exhibited moderate DPPH anion, ABTS cation, and nitrite scavenging activities and reducing power, though in all cases RRB demonstrated stronger activities than BRB. The extracts of RRB and BRB did not reveal any antimicrobial activities. In a ${\alpha}$-amylase inhibitory activity assay, RRB was higher than BRB, while BRB showed higher ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitory activity than RRB. A strong and particular activity was observed in an anti-thrombosis activity assay of RRB. The extract of RRB demonstrated strong inhibitions against prothrombin and blood coagulation factors, with moderate thrombin inhibition. However, the extract of BRB did not exhibit any significant anti-thrombosis activity. Our results indicate that RRB has different, but useful biological activities, and loss or elimination of the biologically active substances in RRB occurs during the production of BRB. Therefore, to develop more functional foods from red beans, a study of suitable boiling, heating and drying processes is essential, and the efficient re-use of boiled waste water from the boiling process is necessary. These results could be applied to the further development of functional red bean beverages and sweat red bean pastes.

제 5 장 계약 해지 및 이용 제한
제 15 조 (계약 해지)
회원이 이용계약을 해지하고자 하는 때에는 [가입해지] 메뉴를 이용해 직접 해지해야 합니다.
제 16 조 (서비스 이용제한)
① 당 사이트는 회원이 서비스 이용내용에 있어서 본 약관 제 11조 내용을 위반하거나, 다음 각 호에 해당하는
경우 서비스 이용을 제한할 수 있습니다.
- 2년 이상 서비스를 이용한 적이 없는 경우
- 기타 정상적인 서비스 운영에 방해가 될 경우
② 상기 이용제한 규정에 따라 서비스를 이용하는 회원에게 서비스 이용에 대하여 별도 공지 없이 서비스 이용의
일시정지, 이용계약 해지 할 수 있습니다.
제 17 조 (전자우편주소 수집 금지)
회원은 전자우편주소 추출기 등을 이용하여 전자우편주소를 수집 또는 제3자에게 제공할 수 없습니다.
제 6 장 손해배상 및 기타사항
제 18 조 (손해배상)
당 사이트는 무료로 제공되는 서비스와 관련하여 회원에게 어떠한 손해가 발생하더라도 당 사이트가 고의 또는 과실로 인한 손해발생을 제외하고는 이에 대하여 책임을 부담하지 아니합니다.
제 19 조 (관할 법원)
서비스 이용으로 발생한 분쟁에 대해 소송이 제기되는 경우 민사 소송법상의 관할 법원에 제기합니다.
[부 칙]
1. (시행일) 이 약관은 2016년 9월 5일부터 적용되며, 종전 약관은 본 약관으로 대체되며, 개정된 약관의 적용일 이전 가입자도 개정된 약관의 적용을 받습니다.
