Objectives : The aim of this study is to examine the effect of external application containing herbal extracts (Betula platyphyllae Cortex, Viticis Fructus, Agrimoniae herba) to patients with atopic dermatitis. Methods : Twenty patients (experiment group) were treated with the external application containing herbal extracts (Betula platyphyllae Cortex, Viticis Fructus, Agrimoniae herba) and other twenty patients (control group) were treated with normal external application that doesn't contain herbal extracts for 2weeks. We observed comparisons between experiment and control group after 1week, 2weeks. Degrees of severity of atopic dermatitis were measured by SCORAD index (Scoring of Atopic Dermatitis Index). Statistical significance was achieved if the probability was less than 5% (p<0.05). Results : 1. After 1week of external application treatment, SCORAD Index in experiment group was significantly decreased comparing with control group, which is a marginally significant result between two groups. But after 2weeks the experiment group showed no statistically significant result. 2. After 1week of external application treatment, Intensity Criteria (Erythema, Edema/papulation, Total) in experiment group was significantly decreased comparing with control group, which is a statistically significant result between two groups. But after 2weeks the experiment group showed no statistically significant result. 3. After 1week and 2weeks of external application treatment, comparison of changes in Subjective Symptoms (Pruritus, Insomnia) indicated that the experiment group showed no statistically significant result. 4. After 1week of external application treatment, Total Quality of life through Skindex-29 in experiment group was significantly decreased comparing with control group, which is a marginally significant result between two groups. But after 2weeks the experiment group showed no statistically significant result. Conclusions : As a result of applying the external application containing herbal extracts to patients with atopic dermatitis and watching the progress, we can speculate that the external application containing herbal extracts has especially short-term therapeutical effects in mitigating the symptoms of Atopic Dermatitis. Thus, it is concluded and considered that the external application containing herbal extracts can be used by atopic patients effectively with almost no side-effect.

This paper presents the loosening behavior that occurs after the application of an external load to internal and external connection types of dental implants using the finite element method. We use fastening force between an abutment and a fixture to clamp the dental implant system; however, loosening and breakage may occur owing to cyclic external loads. In this study, we considered the initial fastening condition in the pre-load analysis and then investigated the change in stress and contact surface status when applying external loads. After the application of the initial fastening load, we verified that the internal connection-type model exhibited a relatively lower stress distribution than that of the external connection-type one. Moreover, we found that the former model showed a lower stress concentration after the application of the external load. In addition, after the application of this load, we found that the higher the shear load acting on the implant system, the higher the possibility of loosening. The study results showed the change in stress distribution and contact surface according to the connection type of the dental implants and the phenomenon of loosening by cyclic loads. We expect that the results of this study will be useful for the study of reliability and design of dental implant systems.

In the treatment of Nasal Polyps. which are produced with allergic rhinitis, chronic paranasal sinusitis at clinic. Herb-med., acupuncture and some medicine for external application have been used. The symptoms, however, has taken a turn for the better in temporary, the nasal polyps was not removed in completely. So the origin treatment was impossible by the use of herb-med.. acupuncture and medicine. Although a surgical operation (excision) of western-medicine is effective for a specified period of time (about 6 months), the nasal polyps tend to recur. Because of that the second and third operation might be needed, so we cannot consider the operation as the treatment of nasal polyps. The study was observed to investigate the nasal polyps treatment, and to search practical attempt for the clinic application through a literature study on Bisikyuk and Bithch which are similar with nasal polyps. As results, the practical application of external treatment for the nasal polyps treatment in clinic might be more necessary, and internal use of the Herb-med. with the external treatment might be treated as supplementary treatment.

Thereafter, a sphere of external treatment had gradually enlarged. (1) After all its sphere had included dermatologic, psychologic, internal, ophthalmic, otolaryngologic, obstetrics, gynecologic, pediatric and surgical diseases. (2) External treatment methods have contained hot compress therapy, fumigation therapy, bathing therapy, application therapy, medication bag therapy, medication plug therapy, medication massotherapy, aroma therapy and so on. (3) Medication types of external treatment have contained ointment, juice, infusion, powder, suppository and so on.

Objectives : This study was conducted to test patients with Atopic Dermatitis by external application with Gynostemma Pentaphyllum MAKINO in cosmetics. Methods : We gave scores to 59 patients who visited the Dept. of Oriental Medical Opthalmology & Otolaryngology & Dermatology of Daegu Hanny Oriental Medical Center from July 1st, 2005 to December 31th. We checked the clinic index score(extent. intensity : the degree of erythema, induration or papulation, puritus, excorination, lichenification, scaling or dryness, erosion or oozing or weeping. the degree of itching), Eosinophil count and IgE. Results : There are 46 patients we could check by clinic index score, and 44 patients by laboratory. 1. In the 46 cases clinic index score was significantly decreased between the before- and afterexternal application treatment periods(P<0.01). 2. The 46 cases was devided into two types (moist heat type and blood dryness type) by intensity. External application of Gynostemma Pentaphyllum MAKINO in cosmetics did not significant change by two types. 3. In the 44 laboratory cases, the number of eosinophil counts was decreased but the number of IgE was significantly increased. Conclusions : Considering the above results, we have concluded that cosmetics with Gynostemma Pentaphyllum MAKINO have the remedical effect for Atopic Dermatitis.

Object : Understanding the importance of the external treatment of nasal polyps and let know the necessity of development of the effect of herb medicine to use in these days. Method : I investigated about 12 oriental medical texts which recorded the external treatment of nasal polyps. I separated them to three part (prescription, herb medicine, the way of making the external application) and check the frequency. Also compared the external treatment of oriental medicine and western medicine. Result : 1. Prescription: There are 48 prescriptions -Nyosasan is used 4 cases, Gwajungsan is used 2 cases and others only 1 case each. 2. Herb-med: There are 67 herb medicines - Herba Asari(細辛) is used 15 cases, Pedicellus Melo (瓜蔕) is used 11 cases, Alunite(白礬) is used 10 cases, Realgar(雄黃)is used 9 cases. 3. The way of making the external application: obstructive method is used 19 cases, attaching method is used 9 cases, blowing method is used 8 cases, plaster method is used 7 cases, pouring method is used 3 cases. 4. The treatment takes about 1day to 15days and the soften nasal polyps like a water can be expect the positive prognosis. Conclusion: The external treatment is very important to treat nasal polyps. So we need to research more on eliminating the toxicity of the herb medicine and develop the convenient way of using the external treatment.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze the trends of domestic experimental research of external treatment in Korean medicine and use it as a basic data to expand the therapeutic field of Korean medicine. Methods : In December 2016, two authors searched for experimental studies of external treatment in Korean medicine researches in 6 Korean databases. Results : Among the 379 researches that were initially searched, two authors reviewed 190 researches, excluding duplicate researches, and finally 11 researches were selected for the study. The target disease was confined to the skin and mucosa, and the most of selected Korean medicine was based on the literature. Conclusions : Considering the range of application of the external treatment described in the literature and the domestic market for external medicine, it is expected that the development of various external medicine using herbal medicine will be expected in the future.

Objective : This clinical research was conducted to test patients with Atopic Dermatitis by external application with Yeongyuseungmatang in cosmetics. Methods : We gave scores to 33 patients who visited the Dept. of Oriental Medical Opthalmology & Otolaryngology & Dermatology of Semyung Jecheon Oriental Medical Hospital from April 17th, 2008 to June 12th. Seventeen patients were treated with Yeongyuseungmatang(Experimental group) and sixteen patients were treated with Atopico skin care cream(Control group) for 4weeks. We observed change of total IgE, eosinophil count, Skin Temperature, Transepidermal Water Loss(TEWL), Skin Hydration and Skin pH. Also Clinic Index of Atopic Dermatitis(SCORAD Index) and global assesment of efficacy were used to evaluate the effects of Yeongyuseungmatang. Statistical analysis was performed by using frequency analysis and descriptive analysis. Statistical significance was achieved if the probability was less than 5%(p<0.05). Results : 1. After 4 weeks of external application treatment, SCORAD Index in Yeongyuseungmatang was significant statistically decreased compared with control group. 2. After 4 weeks of external application treatment, eosinophil count in Yeongyuseungmatang was significant statistically decreased compared with control group but total IgE was very increased both Yeongyuseungmatang and control group. 3. Statistically, Yeongyuseungmatang and control group didn't showed significant effect on Skin Temperature was measured by Thermometer SM815. 4. Transepidermal Water Loss(TEWL) in Yeongyuseungmatang was significant statistically decreased compared with control group measured by Tewameter TM300. 5. Skin Hydration in Yeongyuseungmatang was significant statistically increased compared with control group measured by Corneometer CM825. 6. Statistically, Yeongyuseungmatang and control group didn't showed significant effect on Skin pH was measured by Skin-pH-Meter PH905. 7. After 4 weeks of external application treatment, Yeongyuseungmatang showed significant effect on global assesment of efficacy. Conclusion : Considering the above results, we can speculate that cosmetics with Yeongyuseungmatang has some therapeutical effects in mitigating the symptoms of atopic dermatitis.

Background: There are insufficient objective or quantitative evidence for the better intervention to improve proprioception particularly for the application of external load. There are conflicting opinions whether the external load is effective for proprioception improvement or not. Objects: The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of external load on proprioception of shoulder joint quantitatively using 3D motion capture system. Methods: Nine healthy adults joined for this study. They were asked to perform scapular plane abduction motion with attaching reflective markers on the trunk and upper limb. The 3D positions of finger marker, while they performed the same task with and without external load, were recorded and analyzed. Results: All participants showed decreased variable errors in the vertical direction when the external load was applied (p<.02). Even though other directions (y, z) and absolute errors increased, they did not have statistical significances. Conclusion: Based on this study results, the external load application would be effective for shoulder joint position sense improvement.
