  • A series of experiments covering lowest three natural frequencies of rolling coupled pitching were conducted to investigate liquid sloshing with low liquid depth. The test results show that the most violent liquid sloshing in rolling and pitching is located in the vicinity of the first order natural frequency (f1). When the excitation frequency of rolling and pitching is located between 0.98f1 and 1.113f1, roof-bursting phenomenon of liquid appeared, and the maximum impact pressure is at 1.09f1. When the external excitation frequency is at 1.113f1, the number of sloshing shocks decreases sharply. Furthermore, the space distribution of the impact pressure on the left bulkhead and the top bulkhead was analyzed. It is concluded that with low liquid filling, the impact load is greater near the free surface and the top of tank, and the impact position of the side bulkhead increases with the increasing of the frequency near the resonant frequency.

  • A Gaussian is formed by diffusing a spot excitation. In this paper, a diffusion neural network model is derived from the diffusion equation. And it is shown that a difference of two Gaussians(DOG) may have the same shape as a Laplacian of Gaussian(LOG), A neural network model executing a DOG convolution by diffusing an external excitation is proposed. By this model intensity changes of image may be detected. This model may be implemented economically because each neuron has only four fixed-valued synapes.

  • This paper presents active vibration control scheme of multi-mode forced vibration using piezocetamic sensors and actuators. The control scheme adopted is the Positive Position Feedback (PPF) control. Among various vibration control techniques. PPF control technique makes use of generalized displacement measurements to accomplish the vibration suppression. Two independent controllers are implemented to control the first and the second modes of the beam under external excitation. Experimental results for various damping ratios and feedback gains of the PPF controllers are compared with respect to the contorl efficiency. The results indicate that steady state vibration under wide band excitation can be controlled effectively when multiple sets of PZT sensors and actuators were used with PPF control technique.

  • The response of ship roll oscillation under random ice impulsive loads modeled by Poisson arrival process is very important in studying the safety of ships navigation in cold regions. Under both external and parametric random excitations the evolution of the probability density function of roll motion is evaluated using the path integral (PI) approach. The PI method relies on the Chapman-Kolmogorov equation, which governs the response transition probability density functions at two close intervals of time. Once the response probability density function at an early close time is specified, its value at later close time can be evaluated. The PI method is first demonstrated via simple dynamical models and then applied for ship roll dynamics under random impulsive white noise excitation.

  • In this paper, the coupling of external electromagnetic fields to transmission lines is studied. The emphasis is on the practical solution of Problems involving the excitation of currents on the wires by natural and man-made sources of electromagnetic fields, First, this study develops the theory of excitation of a two-wire transmission line illuminated by electromagnetic field the coupling equations are solutions of differential equations which include the source terms due to the incident fields. And equations in this paper reduce to simple forms when the incident field is a plane wave.

  • For lightweight and flexible structures, it is important to suppress the vibrations induced by interactions between fluid and structures. This paper presents the PPF/Adaptive control of the vortex-induced vibration of composite beam with rigid cylinder in which the fluid force is considered as an external excitation on the structure. For the problems considered here, the excitation frequency (vortex-shedding frequency) is assumed to be equal to the natural frequency of the structure. A pair of piezoceramic devices attached bottom of the composite structure was used as actuators. Simulation and experiment were carried out with the designed controller and effectiveness of the PPF/Adaptive PPF control was verified by both experimental and simulation results.

  • This study is performed to evaluate and design the vibration characteristics of the onboard machinery with resilient mountings. To reduce the vibration level of onboard machinery with resilient mountings, it is important to evaluate and, if necessary, modify the vibration characteristics of the resilient mountings. In this study, we have developed a program to calculate natural frequencies of the machinery with resilient mountings, forced vibration levels due to internal excitation force of the machinery itself and external excitation forces. of the main engine and the propeller. and the force and motion transmissibility of the resilient mountings. The developed program is also able to be applied to optimal design of the resilient mountings for obtaining a target natural frequency and for achieving a minimum forced vibration level at the center of gravity of the machinery.

  • The active structural control has emerged as structural safety of structures against natural loadings such as earthquake and wind loadings. Of many control algorithms, Sliding-Mode Control (SMC) can design both linear controller and nonlinear controller. The robustness against parameter variations as well as excitation uncertainties that is imparted to the SMC due to its nonlinear control action, could make SMC an attractive control algorithm when dealing with structures where the external excitation constitutes the main uncertainty in the system. This paper demonstrates experimentally the efficacy of the SMC algorithm based on the active mass driver system in reducing the response of seismically excited buildings. The SMC control strategy is verified with the experimental study on the one-story building model equipped with the active mass driver.

  • In this paper, the case studies of reducing rotational errors is theoretically done for a grinding spindle with an active magnetic bearing system. The rotational errors acting on the magnetic bearing spindle are due to mass unbalance of rotor, runout, grinding excitation and unmodeled nonlinear dynamics of electromagnets. The adaptive feedforward method based on LMS algorithm is discussed to compensate output and input disturbances, and investigated its effectiveness by numerical simulation. The feedforward control reduced external excitation and rotational error for specified frequency. The interpolation method using impulse function for cancelling the electrical 'uncut is studied. These methods show their effectiveness for the rotational accuracy of the improving magnetic bearing spindle through some simulation results of the rotational error decreased by them.

  • The present paper investigates the combination resonance behavior of imperfect spiral stiffened functionally graded (SSFG) cylindrical shells with internal and external functionally graded stiffeners under two-term large amplitude excitations. The structure is embedded within a generalized nonlinear viscoelastic foundation, which is composed of a two-parameter Winkler-Pasternak foundation augmented by a Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic model with a nonlinear cubic stiffness, to account for the vibration hardening/softening phenomena and damping considerations. With regard to classical plate theory of shells, von-Kármán equation and Hook law, the relations of stress-strain are derived for shell and stiffeners. The spiral stiffeners of the cylindrical shell are modeled according to the smeared stiffener technique. According to the Galerkin method, the discretized motion equation is obtained. The combination resonance is obtained by using the multiple scales method. Finally, the influences of the stiffeners angles, foundation type, the nonlinear elastic foundation coefficients, material distribution, and excitation amplitude on the system resonances are investigated comprehensively.
