  • A lot of data, particularly in the medical field, contain variables that have a measurement error such as blood pressure and body mass index. On the other hand, recently smoothing methods are often used to solve a complex scientific problem. In this paper, we study a Bayesian curve-fitting under functional measurement error model. Especially, we extend our previous model by incorporating covariates free of measurement error. In this paper, we consider penalized splines for non-linear pattern. We employ a hierarchical Bayesian framework based on Markov Chain Monte Carlo methodology for fitting the model and estimating parameters. For application we use the data from the fifth wave (2012) of the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data, a national population-based data. To examine the convergence of MCMC sampling, potential scale reduction factors are used and we also confirm a model selection criteria to check the performance.

  • The purpose of this paper is to further extend the theoretical understanding of the dynamic end milling process and to derive a computational model to predict the milling force components. A comparative assessment of different cutting force models is performed to demonstrate that the instantaneous shear plane based formulation is physically sound and offers the best agreement with experimental results. The procedure for the calculation of the model parameters used in the cutting force model, based on experimental data, has been presented. The validity of the proposed computational model has been experimentally verified through a series of cutting tests.

  • The purpose of this paper is to find a proper cooling system of bearing unit in the submersible motor pump to extend a life time. To do this, heat transfer analysis of the submersible motor pump were performed using commercial CFD code ANSYS. In order to obtain the resonable heat transfer simulation results, we first set up mathematical model of heat source in the bearing system, and carried out heat transfer analysis with the model. As a results, new type bearing cap which had several ribs for cooling the bearing was proposed. Finally, through the comparison between experimental results of old and new model pump, we proofed that maximum bearing temperature of new model was about 10% lower than that of old model.

  • In view of the circular geometry of the Serra da Cangalha impact crater, we have carried out a 3D forward modeling computation for twenty-five MT data in order to obtain the 3D resistivity forward model for the crater region. The 3D resistivity forward model revealed a five-layer model, showing a significant reduction in the basement resistivity. We suggest that this, perhaps, could be due to the structural disturbances that have been caused by the meteorite impact on the crater about 220 million years ago resulting in brecciation, fracturing, alteration and shocked zone filled with fluids. Also, the sensitivity analysis of the 3D model chosen indicates that 3D models having a crater diameter greater than 151 are inconsistent with our data because the 3D model responses are very sensitive to changes in the diameter beyond 15 km. This analysis also reveals that, the depth limits (for the 3D body) causing the anisotropic effects seen on some of our apparent resistivity curves maximally does not extend beyond 1.2 km depth.

  • We consider the multi-harmonic model for the bubble evolution in the Rayleigh-Taylor instability in two and three dimensions. We extend the multi-harmonic model in two dimensions to a high-order and present a new class of steady-state solutions of the bubble motion. The growth rate of the bubble is expressed by a continuous family of two free parameters. The critical point in the family of solutions is identified as a saddle point and is chosen as the physically significant solution. We also present the multi-harmonic model in the cylindrical geometry and find the steady-state solution of the axisymmetric bubble. Validity and limitation of the model are also discussed.

  • Stereovision is known to be one of the most important tools for robot vision systems. Previously, 2D active contour model has been applied to stereovision by defining the contour on the 3D space instead of image plane. However, the proposed model is still that of curve so that some complex shapes such as surfaces with high curvature can not be properly estimated because of occlusion phenomena. In this paper, the authors extend the curve model to the surface model. The surface is approximated by polygons and new energy function and its optimization method for surface estimation is proposed. Its effectiveness is examined by experiments with real stereo images.

  • This study develops a mid-term preceding observation model of radish to complement an existing short-term agricultural observation model. The first purpose of the study is to extend a three seasonal classification(spring, summer, fall) of fruit-vegetables to a four seasonal classification that involves the winter additionally. This allows us to verify the reason for demand and supply unbalance and unstable price of radish. The second purpose is to construct a mid-term preceding observation model that would be used to forecast planted areas, output, monthly shipment and price. To achieve these purposes, several multiple regression models are estimated. A system is consisted of a planted areas equation, a yield equation, monthly shipment distribution equation, and monthly price equation. To calculate output an auxiliary equation is involved in the system and the consumer price index etc are considered as exogenous variables.
