Explosive characteristics of the city gas were determined by using the gas explosion apparatues. The explosive range is determined between lower explosive limit of 5.0% and upper explosive limit of 15.3% at atmosphere and even though the oxygen concentration is decreased, lower explosive limit is not changed, but upper explosive limit is rapidly decreased. The minimum oxygen for combustion is determined 10%. The maximum explosion pressure is determined 5.72$\textrm{cm}^2$ and the maximum rate of explosion pressure rise is oxygen concentration of 12% to determined 160.12$\textrm{cm}^2{\cdot}$sec.
We have examined In order to compare each other from explosion and combustion characteristics about the dusts which collects from manufacturing process of wheat flour and cosmetics manufacturing process of functional Keratin removal soap at the small and medium enterprise style. We measured explosive pressure and explosive lower limit which follows in change of concentration change at the time of talc addition uses Hartman dust explosion apparatus, also measured weight loss and endothermic quantity uses DSC and TGA. The explosion test results show that increased explosive lower limit concentration and explosive pressure decreased by the increased ratio of the talc dust. And the DSC results show that heat flux and temperature decreased by the increased ratio of the talc dust. Also increased in raising temperature causes initial smoldering temperature to move towards low temperature section and the endothermic quantity increased on a large scale. Together the TGA results show that weight loss decreased by the increased ratio of the talc dust. From this research we have assured the successive dust explosion mechanism study will play a key role as a significant safety securing guideline against the dust explosion.
The thermochemical parameters for safe handling, storage, transport, operation and process design of flammable substances are explosive limit, flash point, autoignition temperature, minimum oxygen concentration, heat of combustion etc.. Explosive limit and autoignition temperature are the major physical properties used to determine the fire and explosion hazards of the flammable substances. Explosive limit and autoignition temperature of methane fur LNG process safety were investigated. By using the literatures data, the lower and upper explosive limits of methane recommended 4.8 vol$\%$ and 16 vol$\%$, respectively. Also autoignition temperatures of methane with ignition sources recommended $540^{\circ}C$ at the electrically heated cruicible furnace (the whole surface heating) and recommended about $1000^{\circ}C$ in the local hot surface. The new equations for predicting the temperature dependence and the pressure dependence of the lower explosive limits for methane are proposed. The values calculated by the proposed equations were a good agreement with the literature data.
PCVD (Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition), a solar cell manufacturing facility, is a facility that deposits plasma generated in a chamber (NH3, SIH4, O2 on a wafer. In the PCVD facility, gas movement and injection is performed in the gas cabinet, and there are many leak points inside because MFC, regulator, valve, pipe, etc. are intricately connected. In order to prevent explosion in case of leakage of NH3 with an upper explosive limit (UEL) of 33.6% and a lower explosive limit (LEL) of 15%, the dilution capacity must be capable of allowing the concentration of NH3 to be out of the explosive range. This study was analyzed using the CFD analysis technique, which can confirm the dilution ability in 3D and numerical values when NH3 gas leaks from the existing PCVD gas cabinet. As a result, it was concluded that it corresponds to medium dilution and that testicular ventilation is possible through facility improvement.
The explosion phenomenon and hazard estimate of LP gas, the study was examined into variation of oxygen concentration and LP gas concentration. As the result of experiment, the lower explosive limit was decreased as the increased at concentration of LP gas and 21% of oxygen concentration. Minimum oxygen concentration was 14.5%. 12.0%, 11.5% at 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 bar respectively. And maximum explosion pressure was increased for $6.46kg/cm^2,\;9.41kg/cm^2\;and\;13.49kg/cm^2$ according to increased of pressure. The speed of flame propagation was increased as the higher with initial pressure of LP gas.

A sensor array with 10 discrete sensors integrated on a substrate was developed for discriminating the kinds and quantities of explosive gases. The sensor array consisted of 10 oxide semiconductor gas sensors with $SnO_2$ as base material and had broad sensitivity to specific gas. The sensor array was designed with uniform thermal distribution and had also high sensitivity and reproductivity to low gas concentration through nano-sized sensing materials with different additives. By using the sensitivity signal of the sensor array at $400^{\circ}C$, we could reliably discriminate the kinds and quantities of explosive gases like butane, propane and methane under the lower explosion limit through the principal component analysis (PCA) method.
Background: In 2006, three farmers died at the bottom of an agricultural shallow well where the atmosphere contained only 6% oxygen. This study aimed to document the variability of levels of oxygen and selected hazardous gases in the atmosphere of wells, and to identify ambient conditions associated with the low-oxygen situation. Methods: A cross-sectional survey, conducted in June 2007 and July 2007, measured the levels of oxygen, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, and explosive gas (percentage of lower explosive limit) at different depths of the atmosphere inside 253 wells in Kamphaengphet and Phitsanulok provinces. Ambient conditions and well use by farmers were recorded. Carbon dioxide was measured in a subset of wells. Variables independently associated with low-oxygen condition (<19.5%) were identified using multivariate logistic regression. Results: One in five agricultural shallow wells had a low-oxygen status, with oxygen concentration decreasing with increasing depth within the well. The deepest-depth oxygen reading ranged from 0.0% to 20.9%. Low levels of other hazardous gases were detected in a small number of wells. The low-oxygen status was independently associated with the depth of the atmosphere column to the water surface [odds ratio (OR) = 13.5 for 8-11 m vs. <6 m], depth of water (OR = 0.17 for 3-<8 m vs. 0-1 m), well cover (OR = 3.95), time elapsed since the last rainfall (OR = 7.44 for >2 days vs. <1 day), and location of well in sandy soil (OR = 3.72). Among 11 wells tested, carbon dioxide was detected in high concentration (>25,000 ppm) in seven wells with a low oxygen level. Conclusion: Oxygen concentrations in the wells vary widely even within a small area and decrease with increasing depth.
Gas explosion accidents could cause a catastrophe. we need specialized and systematic accident investigation techniques to shed light on the cause and prevent similar accidents. In this study, we had performed LPG explosion simulation using AUTODYN which is the commercial explosion program and predicted the damage characteristics of the structures by LNG explosive power. In the first step, we could get LPG's physical and chemical explosion properties by calculation using TNT equivalency method. And then, by applying TNT equivalency value about the explosion limit concentration of LPG on the 2D-AUTODYN simulation, we could get the explosion pressure wave profiles (explosion pressure, explosion velocity, etc.). In the last step, we performed LPG explosion simulation by applying to the explosion pressure wave profiles as the input data on the 3D-AUTODYN simulation. As a result, we had performed analyzing of the explosion characteristics of LPG in accordance with concentration through the 3D-AUTODYN simulation in terms of the explosion pressure behavior and structure destruction and damage behavior. The analyses showed that the generated stresses of the structures were lower than the compressive strengths in cases 1(two lane) and 2(four lane), while the generated stress in case 3(six lane) was 8.68e3 kPa, which exceeded the compressive strength of 5.89e3 kPa.
Propylene is widely used in petrochemical manufacturing at over 200 ℃. However, since propylene is a flammable gas with fire and explosion risks, inert nitrogen is injected to prevent them. In this study, experiments were conducted using propylene-nitrogen-oxygen upon pressure changes at 200 ℃. At 21% oxygen, as pressure increased from 0.10 MPa to 0.25 MPa, lower explosion limit (LEL) decreased from 2.2% to 1.9% while upper explosion limit (UEL) increased from 14.8% to 17.6%. In addition, minimum oxygen concentration (MOC) decreased from 10.3% to 10.0%, indicating higher risks with the expanded explosive range as pressure increased. With increase of pressure from 0.10 MPa to 0.25 MPa, explosion pressure increased from 1.84 MPa to 6.04 MPa, and the rate of rise of maximum explosion pressure increased drastically from 90 MPa/s to 298 MPa/s. It is hoped that these results can be used as basic data to prevent accidents in factories using propylene.
Hydrogen (H2) gas is widely preferred for use as a renewable energy source owing to its characteristics such as environmental friendliness and a high energy density. However, H2 can easily reverse or explode due to minor external factors. Therefore, H2 gas monitoring is crucial, especially when the H2 concentration is close to the lower explosive limit. In this study, metal oxide materials and their p-n heterojunctions were synthesized by a hydrothermal-assisted dip-coating method. The synthesized thin films were used as sensing materials for H2 gas. When the H2 concentration was varied, all metal oxide materials exhibited different gas sensitivities. The performance of the metal oxide gas sensor was analyzed to identify parameters that could improve the performance, such as the choice of the metal oxide material, effect of the p-n heterojunctions, and operating temperature conditions of the gas sensor. The experimental results demonstrated that a CuO/ZnO gas sensor with a p-n heterojunction exhibited a high sensitivity and fast response time (134.9% and 8 s, respectively) to 5% H2 gas at an operating temperature of 300℃.
