Optical emission spectroscopy (OES) is often used for real-time analysis of the plasma processes. OES has been suggested as a primary plasma process monitoring tool. It has the advantage of non-invasive in-situ monitoring capability but selecting the proper wavelengths for the analysis of OES data generally relies on empirically established methods. In this paper, we propose a practical method for the selection of OES wavelength peaks for the analysis of plasma etch process and this is done by investigating reactants and by-product gas species that reside in the plasma etch chamber. Wavelength selection criteria are based on the standard deviation and correlation coefficients. Moreover, chemical actinometry is employed for the normalization of the selected wavelengths. We also present the importance of chemical actinometry of OES data for quantitative analysis of plasma. Then, the suggested OES peak selection method is employed.. This method is used to find out the reason behind abnormal etching of PR erosion during a series of $SiO_2$ etch processes using the same recipe. From the experimental verification, we convinced that OES is not only capable for real-time detection of abnormal plasma process but it is also useful for the analysis of suspicious plasma behavior.
Vibrational energy harvester based on piezoelectricity has been expected to be the dominant energy harvesting technology due to the advantages of high conversion efficiency, light weight and small size, night operation, etc. Its commercialization is just around the corner but the integration with power management electronics should be solved in advance. In this paper, therefore, fully-integrated design environment for piezoelectric energy harvesting systems is presented to assist co-design with the power management electronics. The proposed design environment is capable of analyzing the energy harvester including the package-induced damping effects and simulating the device and its power management electronics simultaneously. When the developed design environment was applied to the fabricated device, the simulated resonant frequency matched well with the experimental result with a difference of 2.97% only. Also, the complex transient response was completed in short simulation time of 3,001 seconds including the displacement distribution over the device geometry. Furthermore, a full-bridge power management circuit was modeled and simulated with the energy harvester simultaneously. Therefore the proposed, fully-integrated design environment is accurate and fast enough for the contribution on successful commercialization of piezoelectric energy harvester.

Recently the use of gas spring in the combat and commercial vehicle's suspension is increasing. Because of its nonlinear characteristics, the gas spring can support wide range of dynamic loads and gives good ride quality. In design of gas spring, isothermal and adiabatic processes are applied generally, but those processes could not produce heat transfer effect in the simulation. So in this study, heat transfer differential equation and BWR/Ideal state equation are used to calculate the pressure of gas spring which is changing with time. The numerical analysis showed that the pressure of gas spring forms a hysteresis loop in the both of the state equations. But the peak pressure value of BWR equation over 0.1Hz frequency are higher than that of adiabatic process. And the test results showed that the differences between test results and ideal gas equation are smaller than those of BWR equation, so the ideal equation is more accurate than BWR equation in this case.

Aerodynamic analysis of an airfoil in the transonic region was automated in order to enable parametric study by using the journal file of the commercial analysis code FLUENT, pre/post process Gambit and computational mathematics code MATLAB. The automated capability was illustrated via NACA 0012 and RAE 2822 airfoils. This analysis was carried out at Mach numbers ranged from 0.70 to 0.80, angles of attack; 1$^{\circ}$, 2$^{\circ}$ and 4$^{\circ}$, Reynolds numbers; 4.0${\times}$106, 6.5${\times}$106. The analysis results of a pressure coefficient were verified by comparing with the experimental data which were measured in terms of chord length because the pressure coefficient of an airfoil surface is a good estimator of flow characteristics. The results of two airfoils show that this analysis code is useful enough to be used in the design optimization of airfoil.
This paper presents the design and implementation of a wind-solar hybrid power system for LED street lighting and an isolated power system. The proposed system consists of photovoltaic modules, a wind generator, a storage system (battery), LED lighting, and the controller, which can manage the power and system operation. This controller has the functions of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for the wind and solar power, effective charging/discharging for the storage system, LED dimming control for saving energy, and remote data logging for monitoring the performance and maintenance. The proposed system was analyzed in regard to the operation status of the hybrid input power and the battery voltage using a PSIM simulation. In addition, the characteristics of the proposed system's output were analyzed through experimental verification. A prototype was also developed which uses 300[W] of wind power, 200[W] of solar power, 60[W] LED lighting, and a 24[V]/80[Ah] battery. The control system principles and design scheme of the hardware and software are presented.

In recent years, many efforts have steadily been allocated to develop a new deck system in terms of its materials and structures in order to make up for the shortcomings of reinforced concrete deck. This study implemented and analyzed the verification for concrete composite beam with perfobond FRP as a permanent formwork and the tensile reinforcement, using non-linear finite element analysis program. Approximately 8-15% difference of ultimate failure load between numerical and experimental results were found and showed a similar figure of strain distribution in failure state.

Face recognition is very challenging because of the unexpected changes of pose, expression, and illumination. Facial detection in the mobile environments has additional difficulty since the computational resources are very limited. This paper discusses face detection based on frequency domain matched filtering in the mobile environments. Face detection is performed by a linear or phase-only matched filter and sequential verification stages. The candidate window regions are selected by a number of peaks of the matched filtering outputs. The sequential stages comprise a skin-color test and an edge mask filtering tests, which aim to remove false alarms among selected candidate windows. The algorithms are built with JAVA language on the mobile device operated by the Android platform. The simulation and experimental results show that real-time face detection can be performed successfully in the mobile environments.

Text region detection from a natural scene is useful in many applications such as vehicle license plate recognition. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a text region extraction method using pattern histogram of character-edge maps. We create 16 kinds of edge maps from the extracted edges and then, we create the 8 kinds of edge maps which compound 16 kinds of edge maps, and have a character feature. We extract a candidate of text regions using the 8 kinds of character-edge maps. The verification about candidate of text region used pattern histogram of character-edge maps and structural features of text region. Experimental results show that the proposed method extracts a text regions composed of complex background, various font sizes and font colors effectively.
Experiments in electrical engineering should mirror the key components of successful research and development: Understand the basic theory needed, test the resulting concepts by simulation and verify these, finally, in the experiment. For optimal learning outcome continuous monitoring of the progress of each individual student is necessary, immediately repeating those subjects which have not been learned successfully. Classically, this is the task of the teacher. In case of remote-controlled experiments this monitoring process and the repetition of subjects should be automated for optimal learning outcome. This paper describes a remote-controlled experiment combining theory, simulation and the experiment itself with an automated monitoring process. Only the evaluation of the experimental results and their comparison to the simulation results has to be checked by a teacher. This paper describes the details of the educational structure for a remote-controlled experiment introducing active filtering of harmonics. For better understanding the content of the learning material (theory and simulation) as well as the results of the experiment and the underlying booking system are shortly presented.

This paper proposes a low power-loss current measurement using a resistor and bypass switch. Conventional current sensing method using a resistor has a disadvantage of power loss which degrades the efficiency of the entire systems. On the other hand, proposed measurement technique operating with bypass-switch connected in parallel with sensing resistor can reduce power loss significantly the current sensor. The propose measurement works for discrete-time sampling of current sensing. Even while the analog-digital conversion does not occur at the controller, the sensing voltage across the sensor still causes ohmic conduction loss without information delivery. Hence, the bypass switch bypasses the sensing current with a small amount of power loss. In this paper, a 90[W] prototype hardware has been implemented for photovoltaic MPPT experimental verification of the proposed low power-loss current measurement technique. From the results, it can be seen that PV power observation is successfully done with the proposed method.
