The Effects of discrimination abuser experiences and discrimination victim experiences on consciousness of Human Rights's at community children centers : Mediating Effects of Self-Esteem

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of discrimination abuser experiences and discrimination victim experiences on the human rights consciousness of children in community children, In order to understand the role of self-esteem as a mediating role between these two variables, And to find practical and policy implications. For this purpose, we selected 662 elementary school sixth graders who participated in the second panel of the community children's center, the third year (2016), as the sample and used the structural equation model validation method. As a result of this study: First, the experience of discrimination abuser against children in the community children's center has negative effects on self - esteem. Second, the self-esteem of children in the community children's center showed a statistically significant effect on human rights consciousness. Third, the experiences of child discrimination abuse and discrimination of local children's centers showed significant influence on children's consciousness of human rights through self - esteem. In conclusion, we proposed practical use measures to promote positive emotional development and human rights consciousness of children in community children's centers.

Association between discrimination in the workplace and insomnia symptoms

  • Background: In Korea, little research has focused on the relationship between discrimination in the workplace and sleep health. Thus, this study aims to investigate the association between such discriminatory experiences and insomnia, a common sleep disorder, using Korean employees' data. Methods: This study used data from the 6th Korea Working Conditions Survey. Discrimination experiences due to age, ethnic background, nationality, race, sex, religion, disability, sexual orientation, educational level, hometown, and employment status were investigated. The Minimal Insomnia Symptom Scale estimated insomnia symptoms. The association between discrimination experience and insomnia symptoms were analyzed using survey-weighted logistic regression analysis. Results: Based on experiences of discrimination over the past 12 months, insomnia symptoms were associated with discrimination experience due to religion (odds ratio [OR]: 3.70; 95% confidential interval [CI]: 1.58-8.69), sex (OR: 2.51; 95% CI: 1.87-3.37), age (OR: 2.30; 95% CI: 1.88-2.81), hometown (OR: 2.07; 95% CI: 1.44-2.97), employment status (OR: 1.69; 95% CI: 1.37-2.10), and educational level (OR: 1.67; 95% CI: 1.31-2.14). Furthermore, the prevalence of insomnia symptoms increased with the number of discrimination experiences. Conclusions: In this study, discrimination experiences due to religion, sex, age, hometown, employment status, and educational level were significantly associated with insomnia symptoms. Furthermore, as the number of discrimination experiences increased, so did the prevalence of insomnia. Preventing workplace discrimination may improve workers' sleep health.

남자간호사의 직장 내 성차별 경험 (Male Nurses' Experiences of Workplace Gender Discrimination)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to explore male nurses' experiences of gender discrimination at the workplace using qualitative research methods. Methods: Participants responded to a survey using an online link, and were asked to describe their overall experiences by responding to the question "Please freely describe your experiences of workplace gender discrimination". The qualitative data collected from 118 participants were analyzed using Krippendorff's technique. Data collection was caried out from June 11, 2019, to August 3, 2020. Results: Eleven themes and 24 subthemes were extracted from a total of 277 meaningful statements. Male nurses' experiences of workplace gender discrimination, reasons of gender discrimination, and improvement strategies were presented through the key themes. Conclusion: Male nurses experienced workplace gender discrimination from patients, colleagues, and institutions. Furthermore, strategies to improve gender stereotypes and to emphasize the strengths of male nurses are necessary in order to increase the number of male nurses in the female-dominant nursing field and to reduce job turnover. These strategies will help expand the social role of nurses as professionals and improve the work environment and benefits for all nurses.

우리나라 노인의 신체기능 요인과 차별경험의 관련성 연구: 노인실태조사(2014, 2017) 자료 분석 (Relationship between Physical Function Factors and Discrimination Experiences of the Elderly in Korea: The 2014 and 2017 National Survey on Living Conditions and Welfare Needs of Korean Older Persons)

  • Background: Supporting the elderly population is presented as a social issue, and it affects age discrimination, which forms a negative perception and avoids the elderly. Since age discrimination lowers the quality of life of the elderly and hinders social unity, it may be important to research related factors. This study examined the physical function as a factor that influences discrimination experiences and aimed to identify the relationship between physical function factors and discrimination experiences. Methods: In this study, we analyzed 20,225 elderly from the 2014 and 2017 survey of living conditions and welfare needs of Korean older persons, conducted nationwide among older than 65 years. Physical function factors are activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, sight discomfort, hearing discomfort, chewing discomfort, and leg strength as factors of interest. We performed multivariable logistic regression that reflected survey characteristics, adjusting for socio-demographic factors, health related factors, and social-support factors. Results: The number of elderly who faced discrimination experiences was 1,175 (5.8%). The results showed that the odds ratio of facing a discrimination experience in the dependent group was significantly higher compared to the independent group when being transferring out of the room (4.05; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.50-10.88) and difficulty in hearing (1.25; 95% CI, 1.05-1.49). Even with respect to chewing ability, which was significant in models 1 and 2, they face more discrimination experiences (1.30; 95% CI, 1.11-1.53). Conclusion: These research results indicate that an important strategy for preventing age discrimination is to understand the physical function conditions of the elderly and promote the physical functions of the elderly related to transferring, hearing, and chewing; it is necessary to develop a practical intervention plan that considers these aspects.

장애인 실업의 원인 : 생산성 또는 차별? (Causes of high unemployment among the people with disabilities : productivity, or discrimination?)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze empirically the causes of high unemployment among the people with disabilities, focused on productivity and discrimination. In order to pursue such goal this study adopts human capital theory, screening theory, job contest theory, taste theory and statistical discrimination theory as theoretical background. The major findings are: (1) Among the human capital variables Education degree and job training are not statistically significant on employment. Only degree of activity limit has significant effect. (2) Among the discrimination related variables only discrimination experiences variable has negative effect on employment. (3) Between degree of activity limit and discrimination experiences, both have similar effect on employment. But the degree of activity limit can be thought as discrimination related element. Because' not giving resonable accommodation' is regarded discrimination in ADA or DDA. These mean that it is important for society to compel the employment of the disabled and to put focus on eliminating prejudice rather than accomplishing education and job training programs to improve the employment of the disabled. In order to accomplish this it is necessary to increase the levy for disabled persons' employment promotion of the disabled persons' employment promotion act and to establish the disability discrimination act. Also, integrated education starting from infancy is necessary. Education system should be changed, and Job training must focused on industry which demand more labor force.

미혼모 차별 경험 척도 개발 연구 (Development of Discrimination Experiences Scale for Unwed mothers in Korea)

  • 우리나라에서 미혼모가족은 여러 영역의 일상생활에서 불리하거나 불평등한 대우를 받고 있다. 그러나 아직까지 미혼모의 차별실태를 경험적으로 보여줄 수 있는 자료가 부재한 상황으로 미혼모 당사자들이 경험하는 차별의 다양한 양상들을 파악하고 차별의 심각성을 진단할 수 있는 척도개발이 요구된다. 이에 본 연구는 미혼모들이 경험하는 차별의 양상과 정도를 평가하고 측정할수 있는 신뢰도와 타당도를 갖춘 척도를 개발하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 미혼모 차별 경험 척도개발을 위하여 선행연구 검토와 당사자를 대상으로 한 포커스 집단 인터뷰를 통해 미혼모 차별경험의 개념과 하위요인들을 도출하고, 이를 반영하여 75문항의 초기 문항을 도출하였다. 초기문항은 현장 전문가와 학계 전문가를 통해 두 차례에 걸쳐 내용타당도를 검증하였다. 사전조사와본조사를 통해 조사된 207명의 미혼모를 대상으로 한 데이터를 토대로 탐색적 요인분석, 척도 문항의 양호도 조사, 상관관계 분석, 기준타당도 분석, 신뢰도 분석을 실시하여 미혼모 차별 경험척도의 타당도와 신뢰도를 검증하였다. 이러한 과정을 통해 미혼모 차별 경험을 측정하기 위한 3 가지 하위요인으로 구성된 총 21개의 측정문항을 도출하였다. 본 연구는 한국의 특수한 사회 문화적 상황에서 미혼모들이 경험하는 차별의 내용과 정도를 측정하고 검증할 수 있는 신뢰도와 타당도를 갖춘 척도를 개발하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

노인의 차별경험과 상실감이 자살생각에 미치는 영향 (The Effects Elderly's Discrimination Experiences and Sense of Loss on Suicidal Ideation)

  • 본 연구는 노인의 차별경험이 자살생각에 미치는 영향과 상실감의 매개효과를 검증함으로써 노인차별경험과 상실감이 자살생각으로 이어지는 경로를 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 경기도 31개 시군구를 층화표집하여 노인복지관 10개소를 이용하는 65세 이상 노인 400명 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 불성실한 응답을 제외한 총 380부를 최종 분석하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 노인차별경험 하위요인인 개인적 차별경험과 사회적 차별경험이 많을수록 자살생각이 증가하였다. 둘째, 개인적 차별경험은 상실감을 부분매개로 자살생각에 정적인 영향력을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 사회적 차별경험은 상실감을 완전매개로 자살생각에 정적인 영향력을 보였다. 따라서 상실감은 노인의 자살생각에 위험 요인으로 작용하는 것으로 나타났다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 노인의 사회적 차별경험을 예방하고 노인복지 실천현장에서 상실감 해소를 통해 노인자살을 예방하기 위한 실천적 함의를 제시하였다.

  • 본 연구는 노인관련경험의 매개효과를 중심으로 노인인권침해지각이 노인차별주의에 미치는 영향을 파악하고자 하였다. 부산 일부 지역의 치위생(학)과 학생 143명을 대상으로 2020년 9월 4일부터 약 2개월간 설문조사를 시행한 후, SPSS 26.0 프로그램을 사용하여 노인관련경험의 매개효과를 알아보기 위해 위계적 회귀분석을 시행하였다. 치위생(학)과 학생의 노인인권침해지각은 노인차별주의(r=-.310)와 노인관련경험(r=.185)에, 노인차별주의는 노인관련경험(r=-.323)에 유의미하게 나타나 노인관련경험이 노인인권침해지각과 노인차별주의에 부분 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 본 연구는 치위생(학)과 교육에 노인관련경험의 필요성을 재고하여 초 고령화 사회의 치위생 교육과정 개발의 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다.

장애인의 장애수용이 일 만족도에 미치는 영향 요인의 융합적 분석 (An Analysis of Factors Impact of Disabled's Disability Acceptance on Job Satisfaction)

  • 본 연구는 임금근로 장애인의 장애수용이 일 만족도에 영향을 주는 데 있어 장애정도 및 차별경험의 조절효과 검증을 목적으로 하였다. 위의 내용을 연구하기 위해 장애인 고용 패널조사 중 제 8차년도 자료를 활용하였다. 본 연구의 목적에 부합하는 장애인 임금근로자 2,270명을 표본으로 추출하였다. 조절효과는 회귀분석을 활용해 검증하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 임금근로 장애인의 장애수용은 일 만족도에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 장애수용이 일 만족도에 미치는 영향은 장애정도에 따라 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 장애수용이 일 만족도에 미치는 영향은 차별경험에 따라 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 임금근로 장애인의 일 만족도에 중요한 역할을 하는 장애정도와 차별경험이 완충작용을 하고 있음을 파악하였다. 따라서 본 연구결과는 임금근로 장애인의 일 만족도를 증진시키는 프로그램 개발을 위한 기초자료와 실천적 함의에 활용될 수 있음을 시사한다.

일부 지체장애인의 미치료 경험에 영향을 주는 결정요인 분석 (Determinants of untreated experiences among persons with physical disability)

  • Objective: This study is examined the factors affecting forms of untreated experiences in persons with physical disability. Method: The data collected from 461 persons with physical disability in community. Based on the Behavioral Model of Andersen, predisposing, enabling, and need factors are hypothesized to affect persons with physical disability's untreated experiences. The data were analyzed by statistical methods such as frequency and multiple logistic regression analysis. Result: Participation rates of untreated experiences were 26.7%. The significant factors of persons with physical disability's untreated experiences are predisposing factors (gender, partner, and religion), enabling factors (income, private insurance, information of assistive device, disability discrimination, and subjective discrimination), and need factors(subjective health status health screening and chronic disease). Also untreated experiences related to gender, subjective health status, health screening, and chronic disease factors using multiple logistic regression analysis. Conclusion: Implications of the findings were discussed and the recommendations for the improvement of health care utilization, subjective health statue. Especially, development of health education and program should be needed persons with physical disability.
