  • This study was to investigate the relationship between hospital nurses 'knowledge of breast-feeding and their ability to provide care to breast-feeding mothers and their children. From Nov. 1 to 30, 1999, 105 nurses of the obstetric ward, delivery room, OPDs of obstetrics and gynecology, and nurseries of three general hospitals from Seoul and Pusan were evaluated. The results are as follows: 1.Mean score of nurse's knowledge to breast-feeding was 12.76. Mean score of performance of nursing activities was 109.80. 2.General characteristics and feeding characteristics were significantly related to nurse's knowledge to breast-feeding and performance of nursing activities related to breast-feeding. Nurse's knowledge about breast-feeding was significantly related to age, working ward, clinical experience, rank of position, experience of breast-feeding and experience education on breast-feeding. Performance of nursing activities for breast- feeding was significantly related to age, working ward, experience in other ward, marital status, and education on breast-feeding. 3.A positive correlation between nurse's know-ledge to breast-feeding and performance of nursing activities related to breast-feeding was statistically significant(r=.381, P<0.05).

  • As development of information technology, companies stress the need of knowledge management. Companies construct ERP system including knowledge management. But, it is not easy to formalize knowledge in organization. They experience that constructing information system help knowledge management. Now, we focus on engineering knowledge. Because engineering data contains experts' experience and know-how in its own, engineering knowledge is a treasure house of knowledge. Korean shipyards are leader of world shipbuilding industry. They have accumulated a store of knowledges and data. But, they don't have data minning tool to utilize accumulated data. This paper treats development of data minning tools for the utilization of shipbuilding knowledge based on genetic programming (GP).

  • The study was planned to analyze the figure concepts teachers have according to the years of experiences based on the two aspects, the subject matter knowledge and the pedagogical content knowledge. Further, it aims to have the results utilized in teacher education and training, and ultimately to help elementary school students to establish the accurate figure concepts. We administered the test to the random sample of 77 elementary school teachers of the grade 3 to grade 6, from nine schools of the Daegu, Ulsan and Gyeongsangbuk-do districts, and we analyzed the results. Correlational analysis between the years of experience and the knowledge showed that the content understanding and knowledge decreases as the years of experience increases, while the experiential knowledge related to the understanding of the students and the pedagogical methods increases as the years of experience increases.

  • In the human cognitive activity, experiencing plays a basic role. This is modeled by the idea of experience sequence here, which has been proposed by the author for the incorporation of the factor of experiencing in man-machine communication. Experience sequence is for modeling the human concept formation through experiencing. Knowledge manipulation requires concept understanding as its basis. An experience sequence deals with such a process of concept formation.

  • The purpose of this study was to describe decision making model of 180 public health nurses in Korea and their knowledge structure for decision making. The differences of decision making models by nurse's knowledge structure were also tested. Research concepts were measured using the instrument based on systemic and interpretive decision making approaches that were developed by Lauri & Salantera (1995). The results were as follows. 1. The public health nurses turned to, most commonly, a mixed practical-theoretical knowledge structure (45.9%), followed by practical knowledge (32%) and theoretical knowledge (22.1%). 2. The six different decision making models were identified. These were named for decision making theories and nursing process. These were client-oriented decision making, rule-oriented systemic decision making, wholistic and intuitive decision making, decision making depending on subjective view and experience, systemic decision making for defining problems. 3. The public nurses who had practical and practical-theoretical knowledge structure and community health practitioner (CHP) retold that decision making depends on subjective view and experience. Also the public health nurses who had 5~19 years clinical experience represented hypothetico-deductive decision making for defining problems.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of brand knowledge on evaluations of brand extensions in fashion market. Here, consumer knowledge toward the parent brand was based on the brand and on the company which introduced the brand. The brand extensions were classified into brand-name extension and corporate-name extension. For this study, questionnaires were administered to 700 single women in twenties. The questionnaires were designed to measure brand extension evaluations and brand knowledge in terms of familiarity, use experience and self-assessed knowledge, evaluations of the attributes and attitudes based on the brand and corporate. Employing a sample of 621 women, data were analyzed by t-test. Major findings of this study are summarized as follows; 1) The higher the level of brand knowledge such as brand familiarity, brand use experience and self-assessed brand knoil- edge was, the higher positive effects were on the evaluations of brand-name extension. Also, evaluations of brand attributes and brand attitude positively influenced the evaluations of brand-name extension. 2) The higher the level of corporate knowledge such as corporate familiarity and use experience of product manufactured by the company was, the higher positive effects were on the evaluations of corporate-name extension. Also, evaluations of corporate attributes and attitude on corporate positively influenced the evaluations of corporate-name extension. These results demonstrate that positive knowledges and affects on the parent brand are transferred to its extended product through categorization process.

  • Objectives: This study was to get database of health service for smoking preventing through investigating the smoking status of students and the knowledge, attitude on smoking. Methods: The subjects were consisted of 463 students who were currently enrolled in 1, 2 and 3 grade of 6 high schools located in Ulsan-city. The instruments for this study were smoking knowledge and smoking attitude questionnaire(each 20 items) developed by WHO. Results: Among the students 25.8% answered they had the experience of smoking. The experience of smoking related to general characteristics were showed significantly different according to opposite sex friends. Student's knowledge level about smoking prevention is high score to mean get obtain 0.65 out of 1. Smoking prevention knowledge level related to highest score(0.82) were have affect on pregnancy and an unborn child. Smoking prevention knowledge level related to low score(0.19) were get rid of stress. Therefore smoking prevention knowledge high level is non smoker rather than smoker. Student's attitude level about smoking prevention is high score to mean get obtain 2.0 out of 3. Smoking prevention attitude level related to highest score(2.5) were no smoking allowed public area and put a stop smoking to friends. Therefore smoking prevention attitude high level is non smoker rather than smoker. • Objective: We propose empathy as a user research method for service design. Background: We argue that empathy will enable user researchers to go beyond the conceptual knowledge to the design knowledge of user experience. Method: We tested our hypothesis by conducting an experiment in which subjects were required to propose solutions to improve the experience of a family member of a patient hospitalized in an emergency department. Results: We found that the subjects who empathized with the family member of a patient tended to suggest the solutions based on design knowledge rather than the solutions based on conceptual knowledge compared to the subjects who did not empathize. Conclusion: Data support our hypothesis that empathy enables people to focus on design knowledge rather than conceptual knowledge. Application: These findings provide practical implications for user researchers in service design.
