  • In this paper, we present a new game interface design for First Person Shooters (FPS). Previously, FPSs on computer are commonly played using keyboard/mouse or joystick along with PC display. We improve the communication environment between player and game world by means of new control system including large screen, laser gun, and directional device, which create a real life-like space for players. Because traditional display for FPS uses CRT, it cannot support large screen display due to limitation of CRT technology. We designed and implemented a new input device using laser recognizable display. We implemented a new FPS based on Quake III that is in accordance with the new devices. Results suggest that the combined interface creates a method which helps beginners to enjoy playing a FPS immediately and gives experienced players a new gaming experience.

  • The purpose of this study was to find the effective way of composition in terms of UX(user experience) when configuring UI(user interface) of educational game by utilizing ET(eye-tracking). Experimental material was a game related to the middle school 'force and motion'. SMI (SensoMotoric Instruments)' iView X TM RED was used in order to collect eye movement data. The results of this study was as follows. First, the lead element for fast visual attention should be placed in the center when the educational game UI is configured. Second, burton that changes character's features and the information about them should be placed close to each other. Third, learning quiz caught visual attention faster when it was placed on the left side of UI. Fourth, when one UI was overlapped by another, parts that were not overlapped was fixated, too.

  • Because of rapid spread of the PC, many users have been enjoying a variety of content as PC. Especially in recent years, young people has increased dramatically PC usage. Young people get more easily information using a PC. Especially they relieve their stress through online games and feel another fun of virtual reality. It is obviously a good effect that they contact IT culture with rapidly developed. But young people's perspective with world is narrow because of doing more indoor activities than outdoor. Therefore we built Spot experience voucher system using smart phone application. We hope that many young people act outdoor activities. And Our product offer hybrid device by developing HTML5-based app. Thus this app will give interest of spot-experience to young-people. So If young people use this app, they can have many experience and see diverse aspects.

  • IPTV(Internet Protocol Television) is an innovation technology to lead the new media age. Internet protocol television (IPTV) is a next generation television converged with the Internet which are delivered portal services such as information search, games, movies, home shopping and banking. Generally, service quality affects to adopt or use these technologies. Quality of experience (QoE) is more issue to be considered than service quality because of the technological restriction and limitation that IPTV is accessed by the Internet. The QoE is defined as the cognitive and experienced quality measured with users through an experiment and is conceptually related to service quality. The objective of this paper is to suggest a methodology to measure the QoE of IPTV using a user testing. We find significant factors affecting QoE of IPTV through an exploratory study and measure QoE scores. We found the nine factors of graphics, picture, accuracy, access method, quality of contents, usability, security, and performance important for QoE. The QoE scores of picture, graphics, and quality of contents gained over the average score, but the overall score for IPTV service providers was not high and the QoE needs to be improved.

  • A college campus tour is a great opportunity to promote the school environment, facilities and history to visitors or prospective students. Along with the population of smart phones and the advancement of information and communication technologies, many universities have recently provided mobile applications for campus tour, and some are starting to utilize augmented reality technology. However, most of the existing campus tour augmented reality systems tended to present a description-oriented campus tour guide. Their main focus is simply to provide information about the campus's main buildings or symbols. This study focuses on self-guided tours of the campus through games making new students and visitors to get familiar with the campus in a more natural and intuitive way. In this paper we present the design and development of a location-based mobile augmented reality treasure hunt game to enhance the user experience.

  • Various methods for creating interesting games are used in the development process. Because the empirical part is difficult to measure and analyze, it usually only measures and analyzes the parts where data are easy to quantify. This is a clear limit to the fact that the experience of the game is important. This study proposes a system that recognizes the face of a game user and measures the emotion change from the recognized information in order to easily quantify the experience of the user who is playing the game. The system recognizes emotions and records them in real time from the face of the user who is playing the game. These recorded data include time and figures related to the progress of the game, and numerical values for emotions recognized from the face. Using the recorded data, it is possible to judge what kind of emotion the game induces to the user at a certain point in time. Numerical data on the recorded empirical part using the system of this study is expected to help develop the game according to the developer 's intention.

  • In this paper, we investigated the effects of mathematics classes using play-action programs in the course of mathematics education of future elementary school teachers. This study was conducted with 43 junior university students who selected 'Play Mathematics' in 2006. All the participants in this course was divided 11 groups. Play-action mathematics programs was consisted of 12 themes. For example, there was tangram, somacube, hexamino, tessellation, geoboard etc. In the beginning of lessons, we investigated theses themes itself through plays, puzzles, games, and computer programs. And next time, we investigated the relationships between these themes and elementary mathematic textbooks(i.e. mathematical contents). In 14th and 15th lessons, all the groups took a project presentation lessons that included all things about play mathematics in all group categories. And they developed two themes of play mathematics in accordance with grades, contents, levels as course tasks. Through this study, three educational effects induced. First, future elementary school teachers have a deep understanding about play-action mathematics. They are interested in these play themes, and take part in these play mathematics programs of their own accord. And they realize that these play themes are related to elementary mathematics. Second, future elementary school teachers' attitude and mind about mathematical are improved after this course. Third, future elementary school teachers comprehend various instruction methods relating to play mathematics. Therefore, we suggest that future elementary school teachers need to have many opportunity to experience and develop a mathematics classes using play mathematics.

  • This paper proposed a tool how to make the educational game for users who don't have professional knowledge about game production technique and It was sought how they can make directly the educational game customized form what they want. It joined with forgotten Korean folk tales. And It evolved into a new game-making tool that is based on Korean folk tales. Users will design, play and share their games themselves with this tool. It was also produced to involve the children more easily and fun in the education while providing and sharing the fairy tales which teachers directly designed by this tool. This tool will give a chance to look back on forgotten Korean folk tales and will play role as a educational game for young students. Through this game, young students will receive good Korean traditional cultures and will gain wisdom, humor and lessons in a game. And adults will feel homesick.

  • The 'spatial senses' mean environments and the instinctive responds to objects in the environments. The infancy is an important period to develop the basic capacity of the 'spatial senses'. Since young children can develop the 'spatial senses' throughout the actual and active search, it is essential for them to do experience through their physical actions. This paper proposes four motion based-contents for improving the spatial sense of young children: a bubble game, a cyber goalkeeper game, a mud-huddle game, and a shape recognition game. The proposed four games are implemented to the virtual learning environments. Also, the virtual learning environments utilize the realistic interfaces which can recognize motions of young children and then interact with the games as they do the movement at the virtual environments provided. Using the realistic interfaces not only develops young children's spatial sense but also offers them the pleasure and interest of self-study.

  • The interrelation between abusive game designers and players are revealed and considered as one of the game arts by Miguel Sicart. This study is based on the frame analysis of Ervin Goffman. The player centered game design, in the case of a digital game, is penetrated into the frame, and player's experience and game frame at the same level can be assumed as positive down-keying. Conversely, confusion of the game is experienced by the players and perceptions about the games are required. The term of Miguel Sicart, generated the abusive game design in the view of the game art, considers both common game and design of the game, respectively. Nevertheless, the abusive game design refreshes the reflections of players in a game and presents possibilities of bridging the designs of standard games through the techniques and devices.
