  • This paper explores a rational investment decision model in sequential capital allocation process under capital rationing. A method is proposed for measuring the new investment decision factor which is the flexibility that describes the future availability of invested funds. This flexibility is important in sequential decision process. Also presented is a multiobjective (MO) decision model into which flexibility is incorporated with the profit and risk factors. The effectiveness of this criterion is compared with the expected present value and the mean-semivariance criteria through a simulation model.

  • This study deals with the extraction of highway's superelevation using digital imagery which are economic method in constructing database for the side of highway management. Using CCD camera, both center line and shoulder of highway are measured by analyzing the result value and enough result values were obtained. This study is expected to become effective method for extraction of highway alignment elements in the Digital Photogrammetry.

  • This paper presents a conceptual approach to convert customer requirements expressed in ordinary language into a form of qualitative and quantitative functions for developing new products. This approach attempts to combine the concepts of the value engineering and the Kansei engineering. It emphasizes that customer require- ments should be interpreted and reflected on the design of new product. Specific are discussed for extracting subjective requirements and transforming them into qualitative and quantitative functions for product design. This approach is expected to provide the product designer with a systematic efficient tool for incorporating subjective requirements into a product design.

  • In this research, the design parameters of embedded capacitors are extracted by modeling and fabrication. The traditional library of capactor has a few problems in applying the circuit. Its capacitance is discrete, so target values in any circuit often can't be obtained in library, To solve this problem, the characteristics of capacitors are detected in the variation with the shape and structure, and then the capacitors with the expected reactance value at target frequency are obtained, In this procedure, 3-dimensional structure simulation is performed to predict the characteiristics of capacitors.

  • After every decennial census in the U.S., national surveys such as the Consumer Expenditures surveys are redesigned. The redesigned samples will be multi-stage systematic samples. Many sampling schemes have been proposed for comparison which requires the estimation and variance estiamtion formula. This paper deals with the surveys redesign research which concerns the sample design within the Primary Sampling Unit (PSU). In constructing the estimators it deals with the problem of which first stage inflation factor to use. The expected value of the proposed estimators is also derived.

  • This study suggests on optimal process when decision maker is confronted with expert's biased information under the situation that the bias is caused mainly by the difference of their interest. In order to make honest transmission of expert's probabilistic information, the concept of expert use and scoring rule to provide expert with an incentive is used in this paper. And expected regret concept is introduced to evaluate the value of expert's information. A simple example is also shown.

  • Optimum screening procedures using prior information are presented. An optimal cutoff value on the screening variable X minimizing the expected total cost is obtained for the normal model; it is assumed that a continuous screening variable X given a dichotomous performance variable T is normally distributed and that costs are incurred by screening inspection and misclassification errors. Methods for finding optimal cutoff values based on the prior distributions for unknown parameters are presented.

  • A multi-objective, single-stage scheduling problem with stochastic processing times is considered where the objective is to simultaneously minimize the expected value and the variance of total flowtime, and the mean probability of tardiness. In cases where processing times follow normal distributions, a method using pairwise interchange of two jobs(PITJ) is proposed to generate a set of the approximate efficient schedules. The efficient schedules are not dominated by the criterion vectors of any other permutation schdules in the feasible region. Numerical experiments performed to ascertain the effectiveness of PITJ algorithm are also reported in the results.

  • When we consider a life insurance company that sells a large number of continuous T-year term life insurance policies, it is important to find an optimal strategy which maximizes the surplus of the insurance company at time T. The purpose of this paper is to give an explicit expression for the optimal reinsurance and investment strategy which maximizes the expected exponential utility of the final value of the surplus at the end of T-th year. To do this we solve the corresponding Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation.
