  • In this paper, we present two simulation methods to investigate the effect of excluding bit errors on generating the extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) chart for low density parity check (LDPC) and turbo codes. We utilized the simulation methods including and excluding bit errors to generate EXIT chart which was originally proposed for turbo codes. The generated EXIT charts for LDPC and turbo codes shows that the presented methods appropriately demonstrates the performance behaviours of iterative decoding for LDPC and turbo codes. Analysis on the simulation results demonstrates that the EXIT chart excluding the bit errors shows only a small part of the curves where the amount of information is too large.

  • Emergency lights and exit signs are an indispensable part of safety precautions for effective evacuation in case of emergency in public buildings. These emergency sign indicates safe escape routes and emergency doors, using an internationally recognizable sign. However visibility of those signs drops drastically in case of emergency situations like fire smoke, etc. and loss of visibility causes serious problems for safety evacuation. This paper propose a novel emergency light and exit sign built-in with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Beacon to assist the emergency self-guiding evacuation using devices for crisis and emergency management to avoid panic condition inside the buildings. In this approach, the emergency light and exit sign with the BLE beacons deployed in the indoor environments and the smart devices detect their indoor positions, direction to move, and next exit sign position from beacon messages and interact with map server in the Internet / Intranet over the available LTE and/or Wi-Fi network connectivity. The map server generate an optimal emergency exit path according to the nearest emergency exit based on a novel graph generation method for less route computation for each smart device. All emergency exit path data interfaces among three system components, the emergency exit signs, map server, and smart devices, have been defined for modular implementation of our emergency evacuation system. The proposed exit sign experimental system has been deployed and evaluated in real-time building environment thoroughly and gives a good evidence that the modular design of the proposed exit sign system and a novel approach to compute emergency exit path route based on the BLE beacon message, map server, and smart devices is competitive and viable.

  • Purpose: To investigate whether changes in Medical Aid (MA) status are associated with unmet need and catastrophic health expenditure (CHE). Methods: Data from the 2010 to 2014 Korea Health Panel (KHP) were used. The impact of changes in annual MA status ('MA to MA,' 'MA to MA Exit,' 'MA Exit to MA,' and 'MA Exit to MA Exit') on unmet need (all-cause and financial) and CHE (10% and 40% of household capacity to pay) were examined using the generalized estimating equation (GEE) model. Analysis was conducted separately for MA type I and II individuals. Results: In 1,164 Medical Aid type I individuals, compared to the 'MA to MA' group, the 'MA to MA Exit' group had increased likelihoods of all-cause and financial unmet need. This group also showed higher likelihoods of CHE at the 10% standard. The 'MA Exit to MA Exit' group showed increased likelihoods at the 10% and 40% CHE standards. In 852 type II recipients, the 'MA to MA Exit' group had higher likelihoods of CHE at the 10% standard. Conclusions: Type 1 MA exit beneficiaries had higher likelihoods of all-cause and financial unmet need, along CHE at the 10% standard. Type I 'MA Exit to MA Exit' beneficiaries also showed higher likelihoods of CHE at the 10% and 40% standards. In type II recipients, MA exit beneficiaries had higher likelihoods of CHE at the 10% standard. The results infer the importance of monitoring MA exit beneficiaries as they may be vulnerable to unmet need and CHE.

  • An Experiment was carried out to study burr minimization in drilling on the inclined exit surface. Several different drills, exit surface angles and cutting conditions were selected to determine their influences on burr formation. In drilling operation, there are not only flat exit surfaces but also inclined exit surfaces which is described as inclination angle. Inclination of exit surface causes a quiet different burr formation when comparing with flat surface. Burr formation mechanisms are analyzed according to the drill geometries and cutting conditions. Several schemes for burr minimization on inclined exit surface were proposed. Burr geometry in each drill and cutting condition are measured by laser measurement system.

  • Even though a flexible disk grinding process was often applied to enhance the product quality, it produced non-flat zone in the beginning and the exit (end) area. Since latter area is susceptible to poor product quality with burn mark, careful analysis is required to cope with such degradation. The flexible disk grinding exit stage was analyzed for workpiece length, wheel speed, depth of cut and feed. The exit stage qualities defined as exit stage ratio and exit stage angle or slope was characterized. A neural network application results reveled that exit stage characteristics was predicted more accurately without workpiece dimension with minimum error of 1.3%.

  • In this paper, we present Emergency exit signs are installed to provide escape routes or ways in buildings like shopping malls, hospitals, industry, and government complex, etc. and various other places for safety purpose to aid people to escape easily during emergency situations. In case of an emergency situation like smoke, fire, bad lightings and crowded stamped condition at emergency situations, it's difficult for people to recognize the emergency exit signs and emergency doors to exit from the emergency building areas. This paper propose an automatic emergency exit sing recognition to find exit direction using a smart device. The proposed approach aims to develop an computer vision based smart phone application to detect emergency exit signs using the smart device camera and guide the direction to escape in the visible and audible output format. In this research, a CAMShift object tracking approach is used to detect the emergency exit sign and the direction information extracted using template matching method. The direction information of the exit sign is stored in a text format and then using text-to-speech the text synthesized to audible acoustic signal. The synthesized acoustic signal render on smart device speaker as an escape guide information to the user. This research result is analyzed and concluded from the views of visual elements selecting, EXIT appearance design and EXIT's placement in the building, which is very valuable and can be commonly referred in wayfinder system.

  • An Experiment was carried out to find the scheme far minimization of burr formation on inclined exit surface in drilling. Several drills with different geometry are used for drilling the workpiece with inclined exit surface. Step drills are specified with step angle and step size. The influence of the inclination angle of exit surface on burr formation was observed, which enables to analyze the burr formation mechanism on inclined exit surface. Along the edge on the inclined exit surface, burrs are formed by the bending deflection to feed direction and also burrs are formed in exit direction of cutting edge. To minimize the burr formed in feed direction, the corner angle which is formed by the inclination angle and step angle must be large enough not to be bent to burr. By decreasing step angle of drill and decreasing the distance between two axes of two holes, burr formation at the intersecting holes can be minimized. Burr formation mechanisms are analyzed according to the drill geometries and cutting conditions. Several schemes far burr minimization on inclined exit surface were proposed.

  • In the automated production environment in the present days, the minimization of manual operation becomes a very important factor in increasing the efficiency of the production system. The exit burr produced through the milling operation on the edge of workpiece usually requires manual deburring process to enhance the level of precision of the resulting product. So far, researchers have developed various methods to understand the formation of exit burr in cutting process. One method to analytically identify the formation of exit burr was to use the geometrical information of CAD and CAM data used in automated machining. This method, in turn, generated the information resulting from the analysis such as burr type, cutting region, and exit angle. Up to now, the geometrical data were restricted to the single feature and single path. In this paper, a method to deal with the complicated geometric features such as line segment, arc, hole, and spline will be presented and validated using the field data. This method also deals with the complex workpiece shape which is a combination of multiple features. As for the cutting path, multiple tool path is analyzed in order to simulate the real cutting process. All this analysis is combined into a Windows based software and real data are used to validate the program in the conclusion.
