  • By combining the multi-faceted environmental responsiveness of polymer hydrogels with photonically active structures, there has been a significant effort to create color-tunable photonic crystal sensors by changing either the periodic spacing of the structure or the dielectric constants of the materials. Here, we show that reversible spiral and helical opal switches with both dimensional and optical functionalities that respond to environmental chemistry can be constructed. When the transparent opal switch is swollen in hydrophilic acetic acid, right-handed spirals and helices that exhibit angularly dependent colors from Bragg diffraction are formed. When the transparent opal switch is swollen in hydrophobic hexane, left-handed spirals which exhibit angularly dependent colors from Bragg diffraction are formed. When the transparent opal switch is swollen in hydrophobic hexane solvent, a left-handed spiral and helix with an angularly independent bluish color is formed. After deswelling, all switches returned back to the transparent planar state. These color-tunable, reversible spiral and helical opal switches can be useful as mechanical actuators, and electrical devices as well as optical components.

  • The primary skin and eye irritancy of the combined vaccine (KGCC-95VI) for the prophylaxis against Japanese encephalitis and Hantaan virus infection recently developed by Korea Green Cross Corporation was investigated. The KGCC-95VI was applied to the back skins of the New Zealand White rabbits. The rabbits were observed for 72 hours and did not exhibit erythema, eschar and edema. The eyes of the rabbits were exposed to the KGCC-95VI. The rabbits were observed for 7 days and did not exhibit any ocular findings on cornea, iris and conjuntivae. The KGCC-95VI is considered not to have the primary skin and eye toxicity in rabbits.

  • The typical life cycle of filamentous fungi commonly involves asexual sporulation after vegetative growth in response to environmental factors. The production of asexual spores is critical in the life cycle of most filamentous fungi. Normally, conidia are produced from vegetative hyphae (termed mycelia). However, fungal species subjected to stress conditions exhibit an extremely simplified asexual life cycle, in which the conidia that germinate directly generate further conidia, without forming mycelia. This phenomenon has been termed as microcycle conidiation, and to date has been reported in more than 100 fungal species. In this review, first, we present the morphological properties of fungi during microcycle conidiation, and divide microcycle conidiation into four simple categories, even though fungal species exhibit a wide variety of morphological differences during microcycle conidiogenesis. Second, we describe the factors that influence microcycle conidiation in various fungal species, and present recent genetic studies that have identified the genes responsible for this process. Finally, we discuss the biological meaning and application of microcycle conidiation.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate possible differences in the behavior problems of peer-rejected and peer-neglected children in relation to parent and teacher perspectives. The subjects in this study were 239 children and their parents(fathers:37, mothers: 155. father+mother pairs:47) and 10 teachers in the fifth grade of a public elementary school located in Seoul. The sociometric assessment mothods were positive and negative peer nominations. On the basis of this sociometric assessment. children were assigned to one of 4 categories in degree of popularity:65 popular, 53 average. 62 rejected. and 59 neglected children. Parents and teachers rated child behavior on the Achenbach and Edelbrock Child Behavior Checklist(CBCL) for parents and Teacher's Report Form(TRF) were used. The obtained data were analyzed by one-way MANOVA and Duncan Multiple Range Test. Rejected children were found to exhibit more behavior problems than neglected, popular, or average children. Neglected children, however, did not exhibit more behavior problems than chidren of average status.

  • This paper discusses on new two LCD technologies featured by the fast electro-optic response:one is polymer-stabilized FLCDs that exhibit V-shaped electro-optic (EO) switching called PSV-mode FLCDs with response time of 400 ${\mu}$ s; and the other is TN-mode LCDs that exhibit a frequency modulation response (called PM-TN LCDs)and a peculiar sensitivity to the high frequency component of driving voltage waveforms resulting in a short decay time constant of 5ms and an enhancement in the over-driving that yields short response time of 1ms between two gray levels.

  • The major purpose of this study was to provide a basic model of mobile guide system for visitor's individual learning, self-regulated learning in a museum. System model realized by this study was as follows; 1) This system distributed exhibit information to tourists in place of existing audio guides or curators. Using wireless communications, the PDA automatically delivered information about the exhibit. The artistic and visual displays maximized effective and quick transmission of information to the user. 2) It made visiting a museum fun, exciting and entertaining. With the PDA guide the museum visitor can interact with detailed descriptions of exhibits, videos and images. The museum visitor, can also play a quiz game, take photos, record voices and send e-mail.

  • ThE Gibbs' phenomenon in the classical Fourier series is well-known. It is closely related with the kernel of the partial sum of the series. In fact, the Dirichlet kernel of the courier series is not positive. The poisson kernel of Cesaro summability is positive. As the consequence of the positiveness, the partial sum of Cesaro summability does not exhibit the Gibbs' phenomenon. Most kernels associated with wavelet expansions are not positive. So wavelet series is not free from the Gibbs' phenomenon. Because of the excessive oscillation of wavelets, we can not follow the techniques of the courier series to get rid of the unwanted quirk. Here we make a positive kernel For Meyer wavelets and as the result the associated summability method does not exhibit Gibbs' phenomenon for the corresponding series .

  • The latest university makes the use of exhibition hall bring into relief a specific character and identity. This purpose of this design is to induce interest the exhibition plan, that is useful to appreciation of audience according to space structure. The concept of this design is to design continual circulation plan and to give correctness Information of the exhibit. Because to this exhibition hall is too small space, this design focus is continual circulation plan. The exhibit is classified to according to the character of that, which is distinguished according to the colour plan. The center of the hall is main image hall of university. The right space of the main hail is university history exhibition hall and the left space of the hall is a founder memorial hall. The main colour is light cream. An image object colour plan is point colou, which is bluish green colour.

  • Two new Zn(II) complexes, $[Zn_2(dpa)_2(phen)_2(H_2O)_2]{\cdot}H_2O$ (1) (dpa = dephenate, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) and [$Zn_2(dpa)_2(bpy)_2(H_2O)_2$] (2) (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The X-ray analysis reveals that the structures of 1 and 2 are dinuclear zinc(II) complexes bridged by dpa dianions, respectively. The zinc ions in 1 exhibit a distorted square pyramidal environments, while the zinc ions in 2 exhibit a trigonal bipyramid geometry. In each complex, the dpa ligand is coordinated to zinc ions as a bis-monodentate.

  • Miscible polymer blends still have heterogeneity in their component chain concentration in the segmental length scale because of the chain connectivity (that results in the self-concentration of the segments of respective chains) as well as the dynamic fluctuation over various length scales. As a result, the blend components feel different dynamic environments to exhibit different temperature dependence in their segmental relaxation rates. This type of dynamic heterogeneity often results in a broad glass transition (sometimes seen as two separate transitions), a broad distribution of the local (segmental) relaxation modes, and the thermo-rheological complexity of this distribution. Furthermore, the dynamic heterogeneity also affects the global dynamics in the miscible blends if the component chains therein have a large dynamic asymmetry. Thus, the superficially simple miscible blends exhibit interesting dynamic behavior. This article gives a brief summary of the features of the segmental and global dynamics in those blends.
