  • As a critical member of cable-stayed bridges, stay cables play an important role of supporting the entire structure. Traffic, wind or rain-wind induced vibrations of stay cables would be a major cause of degrading both safety and serviceability of the bridge. One of the effective alternatives to solve this problem is to employ the cable dampers. In order to design the cable damper optimally. it is necessary to exactly estimate the dynamic characteristics of the existing cables. Therefore, in this study, a cable exciting system (exciter) controlled digitally was developed. And to evaluate the performance of the cable exciter developed, a solution of the differential equation of cable motion considering the exciter was derived. Using the cable exciter. sine sweeping and resonance tests on a cable model were carried out to obtain the dynamic characteristics effectively.

  • The main target in this paper is the localization of VME Type EPSM in Generator Exciter(EX2100) System. Developed EPSM has the compatibility with the existing product in the structure and shape and electrical feature and so on, but it has a much improved capacity and reliability in comparison with origin company product. this paper, to improve these functions, put emphasis on protection, monitoring, power capacity increase(over 120%), an enlarged scale of input voltage supply, AC/DC dual voltage use and so on. After manufacturing product localization, it was carried out several tests for the performance and reliability verification of developed product. These tests were performed in Authorized Inspection Agency(KTL) and field application test and maker self-test were additionally performed. Finally, the results of all tests were "success".

  • This paper presents the analysis results on the electrical output performance characteristics of a 746 W high temperature superconducting generator (HTSG). The HTS field winding is charged by non-contact excitation method, i.e., contactless superconducting field exciter (CSFE) which is originated by rotary flux pump based on permanent magnet. In this paper, the preliminary current charging test was carried out using a 70 A CSFE to evaluate the performance of field exciter and analyze its non-contact excitation characteristics for the full-scale HTS field winding of the 746 W HTSG. First, the various contactless current-charging tests were conducted using assembly with HTS field winding and CSFE. Then, in order to estimate the output power performance characteristics of the 746 W HTSG, finite element analysis was conducted based on field excitation information which is experimentally measured under various operating conditions. Finally, the electrical output characteristics in no-load and load models were simulated by two-dimensional transient solver in ANSYS electromagnetics 19.0 release.

  • The dynamic characteristics of an ell-lubricated, short squeeze film damper (SFD) with a central feeding groove are derived based on a theoretical analysis considering the effect of a groove, and identified experimentally using an Active Magnetic Bearing (AMB) system as an exciter. In order to get the theoretical solution, the fluid film forces of the grooved SFD are analytically derived so that the dynamic coefficients of the SFD can be expressed in terms of its design parameters. For the experimental validation of the analysis, a test rig using an AMB as an exciter is proposed. As an exciter. the AMB represents a mechatronic device to levitate and position the test Journal without any mechanical contact, to generate relative motions of the Journal inside the tested SFD and to measure the generated displacements during experiments with fairly high accuracy. Using this test rig, experiments are extensively conducted with various values of clearance, which Is one of the most important design parameters. in order to investigate its effect on the dynamic characteristics and the performance of the SFD. Damping and Inertia coefficients of the SFD that are experimentally Identified are compared with the analytical results to demonstrate the effectiveness of the applied analysis. It Is also shown that the AMB is an ideal device for tests of SFDs.

  • This paper deals with the determination of generator/exciter model parameters for a Cheju Hanlim steam turbine unit. Using the recorded data from the generator characteristic tests, the model parameters have been derived and verified by comparing the simulation results and recorded data. In addition to it, the closed-loop performance of voltage control on no-load condition has been assessed in the frequency domain by taking advantage of derived generator/exciter model parameters.

  • Vertically-launched missiles are supported as erected vertically in the vertical launching system of warship, and they should be mounted in the same way when vibration-tested. However, mounting missiles vertically makes a fixture, which is a supporting structure, bulky and heavy so requiring a high-performance exciter. Mounting missiles as laid down horizontally in a vibration test is economical regarding fixture manufacturing and exciter performance, but it makes test results incorrect because the different mounting direction has effects on the test results. A bending moment due to missiles' weight happens to missiles, and resilient mounts, which support missiles in the vertical launch system, deflect differently from the real situation because of the static deflection of these mounts due to missiles' weight. If the resilient mounts supporting missiles have nonlinear force-deflection characteristics, vibration test results become more different from the true results. This paper proposes to support missiles with an additional resilient mount such as a bunge code in order to solve those problems coming from mounting vertically-launched missiles as laid down horizontally in vibration tests. The proposed approach enables to obtain the same test results as in their actual mounting condition even though vertically-launched missiles are mounted in a different direction.

  • As the complexity of the power system becomes higher, tests of the new devices, such as exciter and PCS(Power Conversion System) of the distributed generation sources, in the real operating condition are more important. However tests of the unverified devices in the real power system may cause hazardous malfunction of the system. In order to avoid this problem, power devices may be tested with the real-time simulators instead of the real power system. This paper presents an real-time multi machine power system simulator using PCs(Personal Computer) and Fast Ethernet. Developed real-time simulator performs the electro-mechanical dynamic simulation of multi-machine power system by the network distributed computing technique. Because the simulator consists of usual PCs and Fast Ethernet, it is possible to make up a simulation system very cheaper than the conventional real-time simulator which consists of dedicated expensive hardware devices. The performance of the developed simulator is tested and verified with the scaled model excitation system. The test which adjust the control parameters of the exciter is performed with the well-known New England 10 generator 39 bus sample power system.
