  • The purpose of this research is two-fold : (1) we propose the paradigm to construct a connected information society according to a judgment where a coming information society will evolve into highly-connected information society having "seamlessness" as a keyword, and (2) we draw guidelines to construct infrastructures and establish systems and business models of highly-connected information society based on suggested paradigm. To achieve this, this research conducts the followings. First, we suggest reasons why a coming information society can be appropriate to be considered as highly-connected information society by examining two perspectives on the coming information society. Second, we explain the definition and characteristics of highly-connected information society and propose the SPB paradigm. Third, we analyze the utility of SPB paradigm by evaluating practices. Finally, we suggest four strategies to construct highly-connected information society based on advanced research findings and future research directions.

  • This paper presents a unique approach to urban traffic network signal control. This paper begins with an introduction to traffic control in general, and then goes on to describe the approach of fuzzy control, where the signal timing parameters at a given intersection are adjusted as functions of the local traffic network condition and adjacent intersection. The signal timing parameters evolve dynamically using only local information to improve traffic signal flow. The signal timing at an intersection is defined by three parameters : cycle time, phase split, off set. Fuzzy decision rules are used to adjust three parameters based only on local information. The amount of change in the timing parameters during each cycle is limited to a small fraction of the current parameters to ensure smooth transition. In this paper the effectiveness of this method is showed through simulation of the traffic signal flow in a network of controlled intersection.

  • Nematode infections compromise human health and reduce agricultural productivtiy. Experiments that exploit the powerful molecular genetics of the free-living nematode Caenorhabdl - elegans have contributed to our understanding of how the major classes of anthelmintic nema-tocides kill worms and how worms might evolve resistance to these drugs In C. elegans, as in parasites, benzimidixoles interfere with microtubule polyumerization the imidazothiazoles/tetra-hydropyrimidines activate nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, and the macrocyclic la ctones activate qlutamate-gate chloride chanels. Mutant alleles of genes that encode drug targes often confer resistance in C. elegans. Preliminary evidence suggests that alleles of homologous genes in parasites will, in many cases, also play a role in resistance. Thus information acquired from C. elegans can be usefully applied to understand the mechanisms of drug sensitivity and the genetics of resis-tance in parasites.

  • The premature convergence of genetic algorithms (GAs) is the most major factor of slow evolution of GAs. In this paper we propose a novel method to solve this problem through competition of multiple offspring of in dividuals. Unlike existing methods, each parents in our method generates multiple offspring and then generated multiple offspring compete each other, finally winner offspring become to real offspring. From this multiple offspring competition, our GA rarel falls into the premature convergence and easily gets out of the local optimum areas without negative effects. This makes our GA fast evolve to the global optimum. Experimental results with four function optimization problems showed that our method was superior to the original GA and had similar performances to the best ones of queen-bee GA with best parameters.

  • In most conventional design optimization of dynamic system, design sensitivities are utilized. However, design sensitivities based optimization method has numbers of drawback. First, computing design sensitivities for dynamic system is mathematically difficult, and almost impossible for many complex problems as well. Second, local optimum is obtained. On the other hand, Genetic Algorithm is the search technique based on the performance of system, not on the design sensitivities. It is the search algorithm based on the mechanics of natural selection and natural genetics. GA search, differing from conventional search techniques, starts with an initial set of random solutions called a population. Each individual in the population is called a chromosome, representing a solution to the problem at hand. The chromosomes evolve through successive iterations, called generations. As the generation is repeated, the fitness values of chromosomes were maximized, and design parameters converge to the optimal. In this study, Genetic Algorithm is applied to the actual dynamic optimization problems, to determine the optimal design parameters of the dynamic system.

  • As the society features evolve to information society, some advanced countries promote to construct the gigabit information and communication networks, to develop system software to operate these networks, and to develop application software to help end-user-daily-life as information infrastructure. In this paper, we will present the development methodologies of the Gigabit Information-processing and Networking Technology(GIANT) and the special features of configuration management system applied to GIANT project, and suggest some proposals about its utilization with respect to systems engineering point of view.

  • The use of technology is increasing within the service industry, but there is some doubt as to whether the benefits of employing this technology have been efficiently harnessed such as data mining. Data mining is the process of extracting certain predictive information from databases that can evolve from currently used restaurant management systems. The potential of harnessing this predictive information can have an enormous impact on the restaurant's operation on the whole, particularly in the area customer retention and competition. Since there is insufficient literature on the use of data mining in the restaurant industry, this study is both seminal and investigative, done via a Delphi survey to explore and describe the current and future applications of this process.

  • The end of the 20th century, on the ecological world-view which looks the whole things as systematic and admits the incessant change, human is considered to function with the environment mutually and to evolve in harmony with it. Because of the living style of the modern people whose most time spent inside of the buildings, eco-office elements are introduced in the inteior places where many general publics are gathered. We gather up the all information about Eco-office, introduction of green building certification system, Eco-office System Technics and provide source to how to design interact with eco-office.

  • It is generally understood that protein-protein interactions proceed via transient encounter complexes that rapidly evolve into the functional stereospecific complex. Direct detection and characterization of the encounter complexes, however, been difficult due to their low population and short lifetimes. Recent application of NMR paramagnetic relaxation enhancement first visualized the structures of the encounter complex ensemble, and allowed the characterization of their physicochemical properties. Further, rational protein mutations that perturbed the encounter complex formation provided a clue to the target search pathway during protein-protein association. Understanding the structure and dynamics of encounter complexes will provide useful information on the mechanism of protein association.

  • The frequency accuracy and phase alignment is necessary for ensuring the quality of service (QoS) for applications such as voice, real-time video, wireless hand-off, and data over a converged access medium at the telecom network. As telecom networks evolve from circuit to packet switching, proper synchronization algorithm should be meditated for IP networks to achieve performance quality comparable to that of legacy circuit-switched networks. The Time of Packet (ToP) specified in IEEE 1588 is able to synchronize distributed clocks with an accuracy of less than one microsecond in packet networks. But, The ToP can be affected by impairments of a network such as packet delay variation. This paper proposes the efficient method to minimize the expectable delay variation when ToP synchronizes the distributed clocks. The simulation results are presented to demonstrate the improved performance case when the efficient ToP transmit algorithm is applied.
