Many studies have pointed out that trust is the most important component of social capital. Although there have been lots of attempts to measure level of trust between members of community, it is hard to find studies which examine trust from the standpoint of structural aspects. Because of the recent rapid growth of SNS and openness trend on members and their friendship information, it became possible to understand the structure of trust relationships among users in SNS. This study aims to facilitate interpersonal trust by comparing the structure of the trust network among social network users. For this purpose, it proposes a method to explore the structure of trust network and strategies to evolve toward more open structure. In experiments to distinguish structure of trust network with three social network communities, it is discovered that ADVOGATO has characteristics of open and collective network together whereas EPINION and FILMTRUST have collective and open characteristics respectively.
In this paper, as an ideal test bed for studies on multi-agent system, the multiple micro robot soccer playing system is introduced at first. The construction of such experimental system has involved lots of kinds of challenges such as sensors fusing, robot designing, vision processing, motion controlling, and especially the cooperation planning of those robots. So in this paper we want to stress emphasis on how to evolve the system automatically based on the model of behavior-based learning in multi-agent domain. At first we present such model in common sense and then apply it to the realistic experimental system . At last we will give some results showing that the proposed approach is feasi...
The evolution of telecommunications has raised the profile of many segments of the network that were not previously considered important. Until recently, basic telephony existed with the extension of passive cables without any particular user network interface. In the area of data communications, the introduction of flexible packet switching has allowed the network to evolve in a far more efficient manner. To overcome such separated network problems and business needs of both users and network providers, the integrated narrowband ISDN concept is being developed in most countries for implementation in the public switched telephone network (PSTN). The targets of ISDN, in my opinion, can be explained as follows : To the user, ISDN should provide the services at any time, at any place, through any media. To the business customer using PABX or LAN applications, ISDN should introduce customized services rapidly and also, ISDN should be developed by the modular hardware and software design approach in order for new services to be introduced rapidly and effectively. Software can be also developed by non-expert local staff to cater for adopting new user's service requirements immediately. Finally, ISDN will be able to increase business chances and benefit both users and operating companies.
Two-component models (normal star and degenerate star components) are the simplest realization of clusters with a mass spectrum because the high mass stars quickly evolve off leaving degenerate stars behind, while low mass stars survive for a long time as main-sequence stars. In the present study we examine the post-collapse evolution of globular clusters using two-component Fokker-Planck models that include three-body binary heating. We confirm that a simple parameter ${\epsilon}{\equiv} (E_{tot}/t_{rh})/(E_c/t_{rc})$ well describes the occurrence of gravothermal oscillations of two-component clusters. Also, we find that the degree of instability depends on the steepness of the mass function such that clusters with a steeper mass function are less exposed to instability.
Cancer is unique amongst human diseases in that its cellular manifestations arise and evolve through the acquisition of somatic alterations in the genome. In particular, instability in the number and structure of chromosomes is a near-universal feature of the genomic alterations associated with epithelial cancers, and is triggered by the inactivation of tumour suppressor mechanisms that preserve chromosome integrity in normal cells. The nature of these mechanisms, and how their inactivation promotes carcinogenesis, remains enigmatic. I will review recent work from our laboratory on the tumour suppressor BRCA2 that addresses these issues, focusing on new insights into cancer pathogenesis and therapy that are emerging from improved understanding of the molecular basis of chromosomal instability in BRCA2-deficient cancer cells.
In this paper, a pitch cycle waveform (PCW) is extracted, quantized, and interpolated in a time domain to synthesize high-quality speech at low bit rates. The pre-alignment technique is proposed for the accurate and efficient PCW extraction, which predicts the current PCW position from the previous PCW position assuming that pitch periods evolve slowly. Since the pitch periods are different frame by frame, the original PCW is converted into the fixed-dimension PCW using the dimension-conversion method, and subsequently quantized by code-excited linear predictive (CELP) coding. The excitation signal for the linear predictive coding (LPC) synthesis filter is generated using the time-domain interpolation and interlink of the quantized PCW's. The coder operates at 4.2 kbit/s and 3.2 kbit/s depending on the pitch period. Informal listening test demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed coding scheme.
Simple Genetic Algorithm(SGA) proposed by J. H. Holland is a population-based optimization method based on the principle of the Darwinian natural selection. The theoretical foundations of GA are the Schema Theorem and the Building Block Hypothesis. Although GA does well in many applications as an optimization method, still it does not guarantee the convergence to a global optimum in GA-hard problems and deceptive problems. Therefore as an alternative scheme, there is a growing interest in a co-evolutionary system, where two populations constantly interact and co-evolve. In this paper we propose an extended schema theorem associated with a schema co-evolutionary algorithm(SCEA), which explains why the co-evolutionary algorithm works better than SGA. The experimental results show that the SCEA works well in optimization problems including deceptive functions.
Rapid progress in the modeling of biological structures and simulation of their development has occurred over the last few years. Cellular automata (CA) and Lindenmayer-system(L-system) are the representative models of development/morphogenesis of multicellular organism. L-system is applied to the visualization of biological plant. Also, CA are applied to the study of artificial life and to the construction of an artificial brain. To design the L-system and CA automatically, we make this model evolve. It is necessary to code the developmental rules for evolution. In this paper, we propose a DNA coding method for evolution the models of development/morphogenesis of biological multicellular organisms. DNA coding has the redundancy and overlapping of gene and is apt for the representation of the rule. In this paper, we propose the DNA coding method of CA and L-system.
The parasitic flowering plants obtain nutrients and water from their host plants through a parasitic organ, haustorium, which connects both structurally and physiologically host and parasite. The parasitism in angiosperms thus can be understood from the knowledge of the haustorial structure. The haustoria have evolve convergently and independently in several unrelated taxa; therefore, they have similar morphology. Many anatomical studies on the haustoria in several parasites in the pst have been carried out by light microscopy. Ultrastructural studies on the haustoria, which are started from the end of 1060s', have provided new information relating to the phenomenon of parasitism in angiosperms. The purpose of this paper is to introduce and compare the structure of haustoria between parasitic plants. The results may help an understanding of phylogenetic relationships of parasitic angiosperms. The haustoria of some families, such as Santalaceae, Orobancaceae, Scrophulariaceae, Loranthaceae (or Viscaceae), and Convolvulaceae (Cuscuta) will be discussed.
This study analyses the qualities of digital architecture applying digital technologies by examining the qualities applied to the fashion designs of Husssein Chalayan. The aim of this study is to forecast in what ways the digital influence over fashion will evolve. This study was based on literature and case studies to examine the characteristics of digital architecture, and a case analysis of fashion design was conducted on the collections of Hussein Chalayan that draw heavily from technology. As a result, it was possible to classify the characteristics of digital architecture into five groups - immateriality, interactivity, nonlinearity, liquidity, and hypersurface; in addition, all of these characteristics were found in the works of Hussein Chalayan. The digital paradigm will continue to influence modern architecture and fashion in functional and/ or expressive terms that will continue to strengthen through the further advancement of digital technology.
