Preference for Green Packaging in Consumer Product Choices: Empirical Evidence from Gen Z Consumers in Vietnam

  • Recently, the call for better accountability and social responsibility from corporations has been regularly voiced, both in the academic literature and in public discussions. This poses a challenge to the existing literature in understanding consumption behaviors to direct them toward sustainable development. This study investigates the purchase intention of Gen Z consumers in Vietnam with green packaging products. Data were collected from 914 respondents by online questionnaire and then analyzed using OLS. The results suggest the significant influence of customers' income and packaging in driving customers' intention to use environmentally-friendly products. Specifically, consumers in a higher income class participate more actively in green purchases. However, problems associated with inadequate packaging are also illustrated, resulting in the poor perception of green messages and poor practice of ecological actions. Besides, subjective norms and green trust are found to be adversely related to green consumer intention. In addition, gender disparity in green behavior is reported, where female consumers show a higher tendency to ecological consumption than their male counterparts. Other demographic factors are also included in the model as control variables, which are age, education, price, environmental literacy, environmental concern, and psychological awareness, but they do not have a significant impact on green purchase intention.

  • Microbes and their toxins can be bioweapons that bioterrorists use them to commit bioterrorism and biocrime. Due to the potential and relative ease of the bioattack, life-threat pathogenic agents (bacteria, viruses, and toxins) as bioweapon revealed the need for a new field of microbial forensics. Microbial forensics is a new scientific discipline combining microbiology and forensic science, which is focused on characterization of evidence from a bioterrorism, biocrime, and an inadvertent release of biothreat agents. The sophisticated analytical tool and knowledge of microbial forensics can provide investigative leads and help determine who was responsible for the biocrime, the source of the bioweapon, and how and where the bioweapon was produced. Among the fields of microbial forensics, this paper will briefly describe evidence collection, handling, packaging, transportation, storage, analytical methods of evidence, and review microbial forensics as a response to bioterrorism and biocrime.

Exploring consumer awareness and attitudes towards eco-friendly packaging among undergraduate students in Korea

  • The global waste crisis has been escalating and its consequent impact on soil, water, air pollution, and eventually climate change acceleration has shed light on the importance of reducing waste. Amidst COVID-19 and the following surge in single-use plastics for food delivery, waste generation is on the incline. Companies and governments have embarked on developing various eco-friendly packaging technologies, but their effectiveness on the consumers is vague as definitions of eco-friendly packaging are vague, and research on its link to purchase intention remains scarce. Thus, the adoption of eco-friendly packaging has been slow. To address this issue, this study analyzes the awareness and purchase intention of four visual attributes of eco-friendly packaging-material, verbal statement, eco-label, and color-along with the environmental consciousness among undergraduate university students in Korea through online surveys and the ordered logit regression model. The study distinguished the attributes into evidence-based and conjectural categories. The findings revealed that eco-friendly visual attributes had a positive effect on purchase intention amongst undergraduate students in Korea; however the level of environmental consciousness had marginal effect on the purchase intention of eco-friendly visual attributes. The level of effectiveness also varied with each visual element. Analyses revealed that visual attributes to eco-friendly material had marginal effect on purchase intention; color was deemed not an "Eco-friendly attribute" by most students, and although eco-friendly labels were deemed as an eco-friendly attribute, trust in the labels varied according to environmental consciousness. These findings have implications for businesses and policymakers aiming to promote eco-friendly consumption within packaged food products.

  • In the case of Ni/Au finished pad on the package side, the solder joint of SnAgCu system can bring brittle fracture under impact load such as drop test. Therefore, it's difficult to prevent the brittle fracture of lead-free solder, by controlling Cu content. The failure locus existing on the interface between $(Ni,Cu)_3Sn_4\;and\;(Cu,Ni)_6Sn_5$ IMC layers must be changed to other site in order to avoid brittle fracture due to impact load. It was not found any clear evidence that there were two IMC layers exist. But it was strongly assumed these were two layers which have different Cu-Ni composition. From the above analysis it was assumed that Cu atom in the solder alloy or substrate seemed to affect IMC composition and cause to IMC brittle fracture.

Anaphora Resolution in the Information Packaging Theory (정보포장이론에서의 조응어 해석)

  • This paper deals with interpretation of pronouns in terms of Information Packaging Theory, proposed in Vallduvi(1994) and Engdahl and Vallduvi (1996), which depicts how discourse participants update new information, using three informational components: link, tail and focus. Based on empirical evidence, this paper argues that the information structure of an utterance is not enough for the hearer to process its information in accordance with the speaker's intention. It suggests that the hearer should be able to activate lexical file cards and frame file cards when necessary to designate the proper file card in which the information of the utterance should be recorded. It also proposes that, contrary to Vallduvi's claim, pronouns may create a new file card.

Development of Long-Term Storage Technology for Chinese Cabbage - Physiological Characteristics of Postharvest Freshness in a Cooler with a Monitoring and Control Interface

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop long-term storage technology for Chinese cabbage in order to extend the period of availability of freshly harvested products. The scope of the paper deals with the use of a cooler with a remote monitoring and control interface in conjunction with use of packaging film. Methods: A cooler with a real time monitoring system was designed as a low-temperature storage facility to control temperature and relative humidity (RH). The effects of storage in high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic boxes, 3% chitosan dipping solution, polypropylene film (PEF) with perforations, and mesh packaging bags on physiological responses were investigated. The optimal storage temperature and humidity for 120 days were below $0.5^{\circ}C$ and 90%, respectively. Physiological and biochemical features of cabbage quality were also analyzed: weight loss, texture, and sugar salinity, chlorophyll, reducing sugar, and vitamin C contents. Results: The cooler with a remote monitoring and control interface could be operated by an HMI program. A $0.5^{\circ}C$ temperature and 90% humidity could be remotely controlled within the cooler for 120 days. Postharvest freshness of Chinese cabbages could be maintained up to 120 days depending on the packaging method and operation of the remote monitoring system. In particular, wrapping the cabbages in PEF with perforations resulted in a less than a 5% deterioration in quality. This study provides evidence for efficient performance of plastic films in minimizing post-harvest deterioration and maintaining overall quality of cabbages stored under precise low-temperature conditions with remote monitoring and a control interface. Conclusions: Packaging with a modified plastic film and storage in a precisely controlled cooler with a remote monitoring and control interface could slow down the physiological factors that cause adverse quality changes and thereby increase the shelf life of Chinese cabbage.

  • One of the most promising emerging technologies for the next generation of nonvolatile memory devices based on resistive switching (RS) is the resistive random-access memory mechanism. To date, RS effects have been found in many transition metal oxides. However, no clear evidence has been reported that ZnO-based resistive transition mechanisms could be associated with strong correlation effects. Here, we investigated N, F-co-doped ZnO (NFZO), which shows bipolar RS. Conducting micro spectroscopic studies on exposed surfaces helps tracking the behavioral change in systematic electronic structural changes during low and high resistance condition of the material. The significant difference in electronic conductivity was observed to attribute to the field-induced oxygen vacancy that causes the metal-insulator Mott transition on the surface. In this study, we showed the strong correlation effects that can be explored and incorporated in the field of multifunctional oxide electrons devices.

Preserving Reliability of Evidence Containers for Fire Debris Containing Ignitable Liquids (유류화재증거물 보관용기의 신뢰성에 관한 연구)

  • It is very important for the collected samples at fire scenes to be properly preserved for laboratory analysis. Preserving abilities of four type containers, metal cans, glass jars, zipper and heat sealed polymer bags, with the five ignitable liquids (toluene, n-octane, o-xylene, n-decane and n-hexadecane) were examined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The glass jars with Teflon (PTFE) liner were the best ability to prevent the evaporation of the ignitable liquids.

Surface Analysis of Aluminum Bonding Pads in Flash Memory Multichip Packaging

  • Although gold wire bonding techniques have already matured in semiconductor manufacturing, weakly bonded wires in semiconductor chip assembly can jeopardize the reliability of the final product. In this paper, weakly bonded or failed aluminum bonding pads are analyzed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Auger electron Spectroscopy (AES), and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) to investigate potential contaminants on the bond pad. We found the source of contaminants is related to the dry etching process in the previous manufacturing step, and fluorocarbon plasma etching of a passivation layer showed meaningful evidence of the formation of fluorinated by-products of $AlF_x$ on the bond pads. Surface analysis of the contaminated aluminum layer revealed the presence of fluorinated compounds $AlOF_x$, $Al(OF)_x$, $Al(OH)_x$, and $CF_x$.

  • By the trends of electronic package to be smaller, thinner and more integrative, organic printed circuit board is required to be finer Cu trace pitch. This paper reports on a study of failure mechanism for PCB with fine Cu trace pitch using biased HAST. In weibull analysis of the biased HAST lifetime, it is found that the acceleration factor (AF) of between $135^{\circ}C/90%RH/3.3V$ and $130^{\circ}C/85%RH/3.3V$ is 2.079. A focused ion beam (FIB) was used to polish the cross sections to reveal details of the microstructure of the failure mode. It is found that $Cu_xO/Cu(OH)_2$ colloids and Cu dendrites were formed at anode (+) and at cathode (-), respectively. Thus, this gives the evidence that Cu dendrites formed at cathode by $Cu^{2+}$ ion migration lead to a short failure between a pair of Cu nets.
