Production planning is one of the most important activities in shipbuilding enterprises. Shop-floor supervisors and planners still do not have enough information to effectively analyze shop operations because of the difference between production planning and shop-floor scheduling. In this paper, process analysis was conducted between production planning and shop-floor control to clarify the difference, and the necessity of the manufacturing execution system(MES) was derived in a shipyard. Therefore, the simulation-based ship production execution system(SPEXS) was defined by analyzing characteristics of MES. The architectural functions of the system were deducted from the process of requirement analysis. The SPEXS' framework was constructed on the basis of the architectural functions. This framework will provide more reliable production schedules and allow engineers to plan and control shop operations in real-time.

To rapidly recover ceased functionality of a facility after a catastrophic seismic event, critical decisions on facility repair works are made within a limited period of time. However, prolonged damage assessment of facilities, due to massive damage in the surrounding region and the complicated damage judgment procedures, may impede restoration planning. To assist reliable structural damage estimation without a deep knowledge and rapid interactive analysis among facility damage and restoration operations during the approximate restoration project planning phase, we developed a prototype of distributed facility restoration simulations through the use of high-level architecture (HLA) (IEEE 1516). The simulation prototype, in which three different simulations (including a seismic data retrieval technique, a structural response simulator, and a restoration simulation module) interact with each other, enables immediate damage estimation by promptly detecting earthquake intensity and the restoration operation analysis according to estimated damage. By conducting case simulations and experiments, research outcomes provide key insights into post-disaster restoration planning, including the extent to which facility damage varies according to disaster severity, facility location, and structures. Additional insights arise regarding the extent to which different facility damage patterns impact a project's performance, especially when facility damage is hard to estimate by observation. In particular, an understanding of required type and amount of repair activities (e.g., demolition works, structural reinforcement, frame installation, or finishing works) is expected to support project managers in approximate work scheduling or resource procurement plans.

The direct-runoff of South Korea's representative dams (Soyanggang, Chungju, Andong, Daecheong, and Seomjingang) and precipitation were analyzed mainly with the evenly distributed spring rainfall events across the country for the last five years. For precipitation, an increasing was presented during the period 2008-2011, but did not continue to increasing 2012. The average precipitation of the five dams displayed a similar trend. Except for Chungju and Andong Dams, the trend of runoff was similar to the one shown in the precipitation. Despite the precipitation of 2009 increased, the runoff volume decreased for Andong and Chungju Dams. In addition, Chungju Dam remarkably showed a bigger runoff volume compared to other dams. As for the Sumjingang Dam, the runoff volume was the smallest, and the difference is as great as over 15-fold when compared to other runoff values. After the result of analyzing the relation between a single runoff event and synoptic weather patterns, pattern 4 contributed to the greatest impact on this event and weather patterns. The total runoff volume of the five dams for spring rain event for the last five years that exhibited this characteristic was estimated at 5.68 billion tons($10^6m^3$). Lastly, the value of this estimation was assessed as approximately 273.1 billion KRW.

Even though graphical simulation is very useful for construction planning, the application of graphical simulation has a limitation in dealing with objects without fixed form like earthmoving process. In this case, the mathematical/statistical simulation about the productivity of the whole processes based on the numerical data of working time, waiting time and working capacity of using equipment becomes effective. The mathematical/statistical simulation is not fully utilized in the field of construction due to the difficulties of creating process models and securing trust the numerically expressed results of simulation. In this research, the output of discrete-event simulation programs which are the most common mathematical/statistical simulation tool for construction processes were analyzed for the purpose of earthmoving process visualization. The purpose of this research is to develop a graphical simulation system that can help the construction planner select most suitable equipment and construction methods through the visualize the numerical simulation results of the working time, the queuing time as well as the amount resources etc.

Recently, many high-rise buildings have been constructed, and are under construction. And a high-rise building with more than 100 floors is under planning. From site logistics management point of view, it is very important to manage vertical transportation of resource (e.g., material, equipment and construction labors) in high-rise building construction. The higher the building is constructed, the more important it is to manage for vertical transportation of it. In case of labors, vertical movement needs longer time in high-rise building construction than in low-rise. This results in low productivity and work efficiency of the construction. Therefore, this study presents a process of a vertical movement plan for labors using discrete-event simulation. And then the process applies to MT 130 project, which is a virtual high-rise building construction project.
This paper proposes a mathematical modeling-based approach for assessing disaster effects and selecting suitable mitigation alternatives to provide humanitarian relief (HR) supplies, shelter, rescue services, and long-term services after a disaster event. Mitigation steps, such as arrangement of shelter and providing HR items (food, water, medicine, etc.) are the immediate requirements after a disaster. Since governments and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) providing humanitarian aid need to know the requirements of relief supplies and resources for collecting relief supplies, organizing and initiating mitigation steps, a quick assessment of the requirements is the precondition for effective disaster management. Based on satellite images from weather forecasting channels, an area/dimension of the disaster-affected zones and the extent of the overall damage may often be obtained. The proposed approach then estimates the requirements for HR supplies, supporting resources, and rescue services using the census and other government data. It then determines reliable transportation routes, optimum collection and distribution centers, alternatives for resource support, rescue services, and long-term help needed for the disaster-affected zones. A numerical example illustrates the applicability of the model in disaster mitigation planning.

Buffer zone selection technique for natural purification of livestock wastewater within a small agricultural watershed was developed using Geographic Information Systems. The technique was applied to $4.12\;km^2$ watershed located in Gosan-myun, Ansung-gun which have 20 livestock farmhouses. As a necessary data for selecting process, feedlot site map, digital Elevation Model (DEM), stream network, soil and land use map were prepared. By using these data, wastewater moving-path tracing program from each feedlot to the stream was developed to get the basic topographic factors; average slope through the paths, distance to the nearest stream and watershed outlet. To identify the vulnerable feedlots for storm event, the grid-based storm runoff model (Kim, 1998; Kim et al., 1998) was adopted. The result helps to narrow down the suitable area of buffer zone, and finally by using subjective but persuasive conditions related to elevation, slope and land use, the suitable buffer zones were selected.
Background: The emergency planning zone (EPZ) of the city of Busan is divided into the precautionary actions zone (PAZ) and the urgent protective action planning zone; which have a 5-km radius and a 20-km to 21-km radius from the nuclear power plant site, respectively. In this study, we assumed that a severe accident occurred at Shin-Kori nuclear unit 3 and evaluated the dispersion speed of radiological material at each distance at various wind speeds, and estimated the effective dose equivalent and the evacuation time of PAZ residents with the goal of supporting off-site emergency action planning for the nuclear site. Materials and Methods: The total effective dose equivalent, which shows the effect of released radioactive materials on the residents, was evaluated using the RASCAL 4.2 program. In addition, a survey of 1,036 residents was performed using a standardized questionnaire, and the resident evacuation time according to road and distance was analyzed using the VISSIM 6.0 program. Results and Discussion: According to the results obtained using the VISSIM and RASCAL programs, it would take approximately 80 to 252.2 minutes for permanent residents to move out of the PAZ boundary, 40 to 197.2 minutes for students, 60 to 232.2 minutes for the infirm, such as elderly people and those in a nursing home or hospital, and 30 to 182.2 minutes for those temporarily within the area. Consequently, in the event of any delay in the evacuation, it is estimated that the residents would be exposed to up to $10mSv{\cdot}h^{-1}$ of radiation at the Exclusion Area Boundaries (EAB) boundary and $4-6mSv{\cdot}h^{-1}$ at the PAZ boundary. Conclusion: It was shown that the evacuation time for the residents is adequate in light of the time lapse from the initial moment of a severe accident to the radiation release. However, in order to minimize the evacuation time, it is necessary to maintain a system of close collaboration to avoid traffic congestion and spontaneous evacuation attempts.

The purpose of this paper is to present a strategic approach to selecting prior areas of soil erosion to be examined for effective soil conservation planning and management, in conjunction with remote sensing data and GIS skill for surface characteristics. To do this, two basins are selected: Andong and Imha basin. Geographically one is in the vicinity of the other but turbidity in the main reservoir of each basin is quite different. it is important to clarify general behavior of soil erosion driven by rainfall event for both basins for further understanding and effective soil conservation planning and management. Also, Both basins are divided into several sub-basins and the severity of soil loss is intensively investigated to identify areas with high erosion potential for each sub-basin so that the efficiency of soil conservation program may increase. Especially, this study analyzed soil erodibility factor(K), topographic factor(LS), cover management factor(C) and soil erosion; 3 sub-basins for Andong basin (up-, mid-, downstream) and 6 sub-basins for Imha basin (up-, mid-, and downstream for two tributaries) because Imha basin consists of two tributaries (Banyeon and Yongjeon river). The approach suggested herein will provide a guideline for choosing prior areas to be examined and managed for soil conservation planning.
Since its launching on 21 December 1999, the KOrea Multi-Purpose SATellite-Ⅰ (KOMPSAT-Ⅰ) has been successfully operated by the Mission Control Element (MCE), which was developed by the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI). Most of the major functions of the MCE have been successfully demonstrated and verified during the three years of the mission life of the satellite. The Mission Analysis and Planning Subsystem (MAPS), which is one of the four subsystems in the MCE, played a key role in the Launch and Early Orbit Phase (LEOP) operations as well as the on-orbit mission operations. This paper presents the operational performances of the various functions in MAPS. We show the performance and analysis of orbit determinations using ground-based tracking data and GPS navigation solutions. We present four instances of the orbit maneuvers that guided the spacecraft from injection orbit into the nominal on-orbit. We include the ground-based attitude determination using telemetry data and the attitude maneuvers for imaging mission. The event prediction, mission scheduling, and command planning functions in MAPS subsequently generate the spacecraft mission operations and command plan. The fuel accounting and the realtime ground track display also support the spacecraft mission operations. We also present the orbital evolutions during the three years of the mission life of the KOMPSAT-Ⅰ.
