  • Implementing UX design that meets user expectations has become an important variable that determines the prominence of smart home appliances. This study addresses the UX design evaluation issues in mobile application development of smart home appliances. As an experimental research subject, the UX design evaluation contents were set up for the mobile application of , the demand of which is surging recently. The purpose of the research is to explore the significance of the UX design user evaluation method in smart home applications, and to suggest how to achieve the mixing of quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods. The main findings are as follows. First, we found that user evaluation can positively impact the direction of UX design. Secondly, we found that the mixing of 'quantitative' and 'qualitative' methods works complementarily to UX design evaluation. Research implications are as follows. The UX design evaluation process can be performed efficiently as long as we distinguish between the roles of quantitative evaluation and qualitative evaluation. For example, through qualitative evaluation such as 'Honeycomb model', can be identified in terms of 'exploratory', and through qualitative evaluation such as 'in-depth user interview', can be identified in terms of 'assessment' and 'validation'.

  • Service Design Platform which has been developing under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Knowledge Economy is aimed at facilitating service design consultancy to carry out service design projects smoothly online. In the development process in order to verify and improve the usability of the platform, heuristic evaluations by usability experts along with usability test done by user participation are required. This study was conducted for the purpose of deriving appropriate evaluation areas and detailed evaluation indices prior to carrying out the heuristic evaluation. For the study, first, the concept of the service design platform was identified and the features of its component were analyzed. Second, based on literature study of standards which are related to usability evaluation indices, usability evaluation areas and indices were analyzed. Third, in order to establish and verify evaluation areas and indices which are appropriate for the evaluation, Delphi survey was conducted and its validity was verified. Through this study, evaluation indices with 4 evaluation areas and 45 detailed items were derived. Derived evaluation indices was made in the form of checklist and will be utilized for heuristic evaluation by usability experts.

  • As the population of the aged and the disabled increases, the needs for universal design is also growing. Universal design is to design for diverse users including all ages from children to the elderly, the disabled and non-disabled, the pregnant, the tourist, and etc. This study is intended to develop the design evaluation tool and guidelines of universal design for applying to space design. In order to achieve this, four basic spaces in human living such as residential space, educational space, working space, and cultural space were selected. Then, the elements of universal design were chosen for each space. The numbers of areas in each space were 12 for residential spae, 5 for educational space, 6 for working space, and 6 for cultural space. Also, 60 elements of universal design for residential space, 53 for educational space, 36 for working space, and 46 for cultural space were selected. The field observation with photos and user evaluation survey were carried out for each space by using these elements. Finally, the elements and guidelines of universal design applied for spatial design were suggested. This consisted of 8 areas and 67 elements. This would be useful for designing space for all people.

  • In recent years, the design has formed and operated convergence education in conjunction with many other academic fields, and ABEEK also encourages the participation of convergence engineering programs. The purpose of this study is to require design and software convergence major to operate program that accord engineering education certification criteria to develop a program outcomes evaluation system and examine its validity. The program outcomes evaluation system was developed in accordance with development research methods and procedures. As a result, developed evaluation system program outcomes for convergence-based program outcomes: convergence ability, creative thinking ability, entrepreneur ability, and design ability. Finally, it revised and supplemented them through expert validity examine. Expert validity review included 9 experts in engineering, IT engineering, education technology, and design. The validity, usefulness, intelligibility, universality, and explanatory power of the evaluation system were reviewed. The results of this study are expected to provide practical tools for operating ABBEK of convergence programs between design and engineering.

  • If the collection of exhibit objects as well as exhibit planning are not in accord with the overall purpose of the exhibit, it will be difficult to attain satisfactory results. The present study focuses on the exhibit evaluation. The exhibit evaluation is very important because it allows the whole process of exhibit development to be reviewed, and it can point a way towards improving the exhibit. Research was conducted by literature review for the museum evaluation methods and by survey for the status of Korean exhibit evaluation. Several Korean History Museum Exhibitions were targeted as cases for this study. Structured and open-ended interviews with 70 museum specialists including curators and exhibit designers were conducted. In conclusion, museum evaluation methods were timely arranged first; front end analysis, second; formative evaluation, third; summative evaluation. Through the survey, one forth of museum specialist didn't have the concept of the exhibit evaluation. However they felt the importance of it.

  • For public libraries to deliver appropriate information to various types of users in information society that allows people to access and use a variety of information, it is necessary to provide services applying the universal design principles in terms of universality. The purpose of this study is to develop the evaluation indicators for universality of public library services, which apply universal design principles to evaluate if public libraries provide appropriate services that meet their original purpose. The final 'Evaluation Indicators of Universality of Public Library Services' consist of six evaluation areas and 41 evaluation contents in 10 evaluation items. Each evaluation content is categorized into a relevant factor among five universal design applicable factors (Universality, Convenience, Recognition, Safety and Economic Feasibility) according to its characteristics.

  • Excellent apparel design can increase market competitiveness. This article briefly introduced the theory of fractals and its application in the field of apparel design. The convolutional neural network (CNN) algorithm was used to assist in the evaluation of apparel designs. In the case analysis, the accuracy of the evaluation was validated by comparing the CNN algorithm with two other intelligent algorithms, support vector machine (SVM) and back propagation (BP). The evaluation of the proposed design showed that compared with SVM and BP algorithms, the CNN algorithm had higher accuracy in evaluating apparel designs. The evaluation result of the proposed apparel design not only further verifies the effectiveness of the CNN algorithm, but also demonstrates that the theory of fractals can be effectively applied in apparel design to provide more innovative designs.

  • This study examines the characteristics of public design evaluation and sensibility evaluation of the media facade, Daejeon Skyroad. The subjects were asked to watch the Daejeon Skyroad media facade video and then respond to the sensibility evaluation items comprising emotional vocabulary and the public design evaluation items of the media facade. The mean comparison of the public design evaluation results of Daejeon Skyroad with demographic variables was conducted, factor structure of the emotional vocabulary was derived, and correlation with the public design evaluation factors was conducted using the emotional vocabulary included in each factor. The results indicated that public design evaluation items showed some differences and trends depending on the subjects' gender, age, and whether they experienced media facade. Meanwhile, 14 vocabulary words were composed of four-factor structures, and "comfortable-uncomfortable" was found to be a common relevant emotional vocabulary across all public design evaluation factors. This suggests that sensibilities that are perceived as comfort subjectively are the primary value of the media facade, Daejeon Skyroad, as a public design. However, the value as a public design can be further improved if the Daejeon Skyroad is operated as a policy considering that gender and age are reflected.
