  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the level of agreement between a standardized patient (SP) and a faculty member in the evaluation of nursing students' assessment and communication skills. Methods: Participants were 51 third year nursing students in a simulation practice of 'nursing care for a patient admitted with chest pain'. Using a 30-item checklist and a 16-item communication tool, a SP and faculty member evaluated the students' assessment and communication skills during the simulation. Results: The average values for percent agreement and kappa statistic for nursing assessment between the two evaluators were 85.3% and .48 respectively. Twenty of thirty items evaluating assessment skill had above moderate agreement (${\geq}.41$) by kappa between the evaluators. Seven of sixteen items evaluating communication and interpersonal skills showed above fair agreement (${\geq}.40$) between the two evaluators, which was measured by intraclass correlation coefficient. Conclusion: The findings show that the evaluation of the SP was consistent with those of the faculty member to a moderate degree. Clear guidelines for evaluating criteria and optimal time and effort for SP training are necessary to increase the reliability of standardized patients as evaluators in simulation-based nursing education.

  • A performance-based seismic design method for reinforced concrete building structures being developed in Japan is outlined. Technical and scientific background of the performance-based design philosophy as well as recently developed seismic design guidelines are is presented, in which maximum displacement response to design earthquake motion is used as the limit-state design criteria. A method of estimating dynamic response displacement of the structures based on static nonlinear analysis is described. A theoretical estimation of nonlinear dynamic response considering the characteristics of energy input to the system is described in detail, which may be used as the standard method in the new performance-based code. A desing philosophy not only satisfying the criteria but also evaluating seismic capacity of the structures is also introduced.

  • Basic components for multimodal interface, such as speech recognition, speech synthesis, gesture recognition, and multimodal fusion, have their own technological limitations. For example, the accuracy of speech recognition decreases for large vocabulary and in noisy environments. In spite of those technological limitations, there are lots of applications in which speech-oriented multimodal user interfaces are very helpful to users. However, in order to expand application areas for speech-oriented multimodal interfaces, we have to develop the interfaces focused on usability. In this paper, we introduce usability and user-centered design methodology in general. There has been much work for evaluating spoken dialogue systems. We give a summary for PARADISE (PARAdigm for Dialogue System Evaluation) and PROMISE (PROcedure for Multimodal Interactive System Evaluation) that are the generalized evaluation frameworks for voice and multimodal user interfaces. Then, we present usability components for speech-oriented multimodal user interfaces and usability testing guidelines that can be used in a user-centered multimodal interface design process.

  • Cardiac organoids have emerged as invaluable tools for assessing the impact of diverse substances on heart function. This report introduces guidelines for general requirements for manufacturing cardiac organoids and conducting cardiac organoid-based assays, encompassing protocols, analytical methodologies, and ethical considerations. In the quest to employ recently developed three-dimensional cardiac organoid models as substitutes for animal testing, it becomes imperative to establish robust criteria for evaluating organoid quality and conducting toxicity assessments. This guideline addresses this need, catering to regulatory requirements, and describes common standards for organoid quality and toxicity assessment methodologies, commensurate with current technological capabilities. While acknowledging the dynamic nature of technological progress and the potential for future comparative studies, this guideline serves as a foundational framework. It offers a comprehensive approach to standardized cardiac organoid testing, ensuring scientific rigor, reproducibility, and ethical integrity in investigations of cardiotoxicity, particularly through the utilization of human pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiac organoids.

  • Web application security problems are addressed by the web vulnerability analysis which in turn supports companies to understand those problems and to establish their own solutions. Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP) has released its guidelines for analysis and assessment of the web vulnerability. Although it is possible to distinguish vulnerability items in a manner suggested in the MSIP's guidelines, MSIP's factors and criteria proposed in the guidelines are neither sufficient nor efficient in analyzing specific vulnerability entries' risks. This study discusses analysis of the domestic and international Vulnerability Scoring system and proposes an appropriate evaluating method for web vulnerability analysis.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to learn what should be considered in the Guidelines of Clinical Trials with Herbal Medicinal Products for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) by analyzing the existing guidelines and clinical trials. Methods: The development committee searched the existing guidelines for herbal medicinal products or GERD. Then, clinical trials related to GERD using herbal medicine were selected. The chosen trials were analyzed in terms of their inclusion and exclusion of participants, intervention, comparators, outcome, and trial design. Then, we compared the results of the analysis according to the regulations and guidelines of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety to suggest the issues that we will have to consider when developing the Guidelines of Clinical Trials with Herbal Medicinal Products for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD).Results: As a result, few guidelines for GERD and clinical trials with herbal medicinal products were located in the national institution homepage. In addition, 8 articles were found using the following combination of search terms: “Gastroesophageal reflux disease”, “GERD”, “herbal medicine”, “herbal therapy”, “Korean Medicine”, “Traditional Chinese Medicine”, and “TCM”. Even though all trials had their own unique research questions, all studies were performed using a randomization method. Most trials included participants with reflux esophagitis, but two trials targeted proton pump inhibitor-refractory GERD. The type of intervention varied, such as decoction, granules, and capsules. Additionally, individualized herbal medicines were used in two studies. Comparators were diverse, such as placebo, Western medicine, and electro-acupuncture. The most frequently used outcome for efficacy was the effectiveness rate. In addition, the outcome for evaluating quality of life, esophageal mucosa and pressure, esophageal acid reflux, and recurrence rates were used. Safety was investigated by recording adverse events and carrying out laboratory tests. Conclusions: We identified some issues by reviewing the existing guidelines and comparing them with clinical trials for GERD and herbal medicinal products. These results will be utilized for developing the Guidelines of Clinical Trials with Herbal Medicinal Products for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD).

  • A checklist of dietary behavior items for the elderly was developed based on Korean dietary guidelines. First, a literature review was conducted, and 63 preliminary items, including 30 items on food intake, 12 on eating habits, and 21 on dietary culture, were obtained to evaluate the dietary guidelines. The preliminary items were evaluated by experts using Lawshe's method to verify the content validity. They were then revised, resulting in 52 items: 25, 11, and 16 in the food intake, eating habits, and dietary culture domains, respectively. A face-to-face survey was conducted on 331 people over 65 years of age in the metropolitan area, and their one-day food intake was surveyed using a 24-hour recall method in August 2022. The 48 items, including 24, 11, and 13 items on food intake, eating habits, and dietary culture, respectively, correlated significantly with the evaluation indicators of nutrient intake, such as mean adequacy ratio, dietary diversity score, and nutrient intake density. These items were considered suitable for evaluating the elderly's compliance with dietary guidelines.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a framework for evaluating security levels in hospitals. We classify security indicators into administrative, technical and physical safeguards. The security evaluation model for hospital information systems was applied to three general hospitals. The analysis of the results showed a low security level in information systems. In particular, requirements for administrative and physical safeguards were very low. Hospitals need strict security policies more than other organizations because their information systems contain patients' highly confidential data. The evaluation model developed in this study can be used for guidelines and as a checklist for hospitals. The security evaluation in hospital informational systems needs to be an essential element of hospital evaluation.

  • The trigeminal nerve, one of the cranial nerves, innervates the maxillofacial area and has three branches: the ophthalmic, maxillary, and mandibular nerves. Paresthesia, due to damages to the inferior alveolar nerve and mental nerve (branches of the mandibular nerve), is quite frequent in dental implants and third molar extractions. As medical disputes are increasing, it is necessary to formulate an objective and reasonable disability evaluation. When evaluating the frequent rate of impairment for inferior alveolar nerve damage, it may be reasonable to follow the criteria for the rate of maxillofacial impairment of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) - the most scientific and reputable criteria based on the American Medical Association (AMA). Therefore, the Committee of Guides for Maxillofacial Impairment Ratings, in the Korean Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (KAOMS), is trying to suggest more reasonable and realistic guidelines for evaluating impairments by reviewing the current evaluation criteria and those of AMA and AAOMS.

  • Due to sporadic development projects and Korea's geographical characteristics slopes are inevitable. Consequently, widespread slope greening projects are underway, prioritizing safety and landscape integration. Experimental research is being conducted on slope greening methods and their effects; however, there is a dearth of research on the various conditions resulting from slope greening construction defects. This study examined different conditions and assessed greening methods on real-world sites to understand their correlation with slope greening. Even in the same areas, the state of slope greening varied in different conditions. This underscores the importance of pre-evaluating specific conditions to achieve efficient slope greening results across various conditions. Consequently, there is a need for guidelines and institutional frameworks to assess various conditions in future endeavors.
