  • An Ostrowski type inequality is developed for estimating the deviation of the integral mean of an absolutely continuous function, and the linear combination of its values at k + 1 partition points, on a segment of (real) linear spaces. Several particular cases are provided which recapture some earlier results, along with the results for trapezoidal type inequalities and the classical Ostrowski inequality. Some inequalities are obtained by applying these results for semi-inner products; and some of these inequalities are proven to be sharp.

  • This paper is proposed the modeling and computational methods for estimating the steady and dynamic characteristics of a transverse flux type SRM. Prediction of the steady and dynamic characteristics state of a switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive can be quite involved because of complex interdependent influences between motor parameters and excitation. To obtain characteristics parameters of the transverse flux type SRM which is considered the magnetic non-linearity phenomena, the magnetic equivalent parameters of SRM are computed by the finite element method as functions of the input current and angular displacement. Dynamic characteristics of the designed transverse flux type SRM is simulated and estimated by Matlab/simlunk.

  • This paper discusses models for estimating dynamic travel times based on probability theory. The dynamic travel time models proposed in the paper are formulated assuming that the travel time of a vehicle depends on the distribution of the traffic stream condition with respect to the location along a road when the subject vehicle enters the starting point of a travel distance or with respect to the time at the starting point of a travel distance. The models also assume that the dynamic traffic flow can be represented as an exponential distribution function among other types of probability density functions.

  • This paper presents a performance Analysis of electrically exhaust gas recirculation valve using commercial electromagnetic simulation software, Flux2D. Under the assumption of 2D axi-symmetric magnetic field, the characteristics of EEGR valve by revising the design parameter, has ken investigated by estimating the variation of thrust force with respect to the pintle position. The mode shapes and the frequency response functions were computed by using three dimensional finite element modeling of the whole EEGR valve and their accuracies were verified with experimental FFT analysis technique.

  • Low carbon construction is an important operation management goal such as cost, time, and quality in construction community. This paper introduces a system which measures the variability of carbon dioxide amounts. First, this system allows creating construction operation models of which the level of detail is breakdown into the work task level. Second, the system implements sensitivity analysis along with a ranges of resources that are allocated in an operation model. It facilitates to find the optimal resource combination using the operation performances such as the amount of emissions, operation completion time, and cost. Lastly, it identifies the best fit probability distribution functions of performance criteria given a certain resource combination. It allows project manager to query the percentages to complete the operation within a limitation specified by the system users.

  • This paper presents adaptive fuzzy control based on observer for nonlinear HVAC system whose states are not available. Fuzzy systems are employed to approximate the unknown nonlinear functions of the HVAC system and the state observer is designed for estimating the states of the HVAC system. An adaptive fuzzy controller is firstly constructed without the controller singularity problem. The obtained control system shows robustness and effectiveness compared with classical feedback controller. Simulation results are provided to illustrate the control performance.

  • A recent trend in software reliability engineering accounts for the coverage growth behavior during testing. The coverage growth function (representing the coverage growth behavior) has become an essential component of software reliability models. Application of a coverage growth function requires the estimation of the coverage growth function. This paper considers the problem of estimating the coverage growth function. The existing maximum likelihood method is reviewed and corrected. A method of minimizing the sum of squares of the standardized prediction error is proposed for situations where the maximum likelihood method is not applicable.

  • This study proposes a method for estimating gender and age that is robust to various external environment changes by applying deep learning-based learning. To improve the accuracy of the proposed algorithm, an improved CNN network structure and learning method are described, and the performance of the algorithm is also evaluated. In this study, in order to improve the learning method based on CNN composed of 6 layers of hidden layers, a network using GoogLeNet's inception module was constructed. As a result of the experiment, the age estimation accuracy of 5,328 images for the performance test of the age estimation method is about 85%, and the gender estimation accuracy is about 98%. It is expected that real-time age recognition will be possible beyond feature extraction of face images if studies on the construction of a larger data set, pre-processing methods, and various network structures and activation functions have been made to classify the age classes that are further subdivided according to age.

  • Kullback-Leibler (KL) information is a measure of discrepancy between two probability density functions. However, several nonparametric density function estimators have been considered in estimating KL information because KL information is not well-defined on the empirical distribution function. In this paper, we consider the KL information of the equilibrium distribution function, which is well defined on the empirical distribution function (EDF), and propose an EDF-based goodness of fit test statistic. We evaluate the performance of the proposed test statistic for an exponential distribution with Monte Carlo simulation. We also extend the discussion to the censored case.

  • Integrating a 3D solid modeler with a general purpose FEM code, an automatic nonlinear analysis system of the 3D crack problems has been developed. A geometry model, i.e. a solid containing one or several 3D cracks is defined. Several distributions of local node density are chosen, and then automatically superposed on one another over the geometry model by using the fuzzy knowledge processing. Nodes are generated by the bucketing method, and ten-noded quadratic tetrahedral solid elements are generated by the Delaunay triangulation techniques. The complete finite element(FE) model generated, and a stress analysis is performed. In this system, burden to analysts fur introducing 3D cracks to the FE model as well as fur estimating their fracture mechanics parameters can be dramatically reduced. This paper describes the methodologies to realize such functions, and demonstrates the validity of the present system.
