  • This study is to construct the simple estimating model for the HIC15 of the driver dummy using the frontal impact test results. Test results of 9 vehicles of Hyundai Sonata from the MY2002~MY2020 USNCAP are utilized for constructing the linear regression model. The average accelerations extracted from the vehicle crash pulses are handled as the main factors. The average accelerations of 10 ms interval within 0~100 ms are calculated from the crash pulse data of 9 vehicles. The present estimating model of the HIC15 using the average accelerations of 10 ms interval in the 0~80 ms range shows good agreement with the tested value within 2.4% maximum error.

  • Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a nascent technology in Korea, and currently lacks formal guidelines to assist Architectural and Engineering (AE) firms in estimating BIM service fees, while also allowing government agencies to allocate budgets for the rendered BIM services. This research provides a method to estimate costs for BIM services based on the cost-plus pricing framework. The approach requires a generalized estimate of the man hour per floor area data to calculate the direct labor costs. Man-hour data were collected from forty five projects that have implemented BIM. Interpolation of the man-hours was performed to develop a general reference table for 'Type 2' (i.e., public schools and office buildings, etc.) projects. By providing an objective approach for estimating the costs of BIM services, it allows clients and AE firms to agree upon a fair cost for BIM related services, and thus expedite its adoption in Korea.

  • The case of rivers facilities works, expense the standard unit cost for the quality and a rough public corporation expense estimating of the rivers public corporation which is fixed form with the information available which it follows basic design phase absently and possibility of fluctuation. It exists many difficulties in rough public corporation expense estimating. The rivers public corporation expense rough estimating method of existing produces does not exist the amount of material of representative section of the rivers dike and the rough public corporation expense estimating method which is systematic with the method which multiples the seniority (M). The research sees the rough public corporation expense predictive model from the planning stage which is not basic design to consider the quality of the rivers facility public corporation. From this study, it can prevent the waste of national budget from the general public corporation and is more accurate and public corporation expense production possibly.

  • The resource-based estimating based on standard unit price of construction work was estimated by multiplying the price per standard unit of work on the amount of labor, material, equipment use time. However, limitation of the resource-based estimating way does not adequately reflect the actual transactions prices. On the subject of water tunnel excavation as a new attempt to overcome these limitations, this study analyzed productivity by work type into cutter inspection/ exchange, TBM maintenance, TBM inspection/refueling, subsequent installations, tramcar, operating change, a cave-underground reinforcement / rock reinforcement, safety / meetings and analyzed actual cost estimating and the net advance rate based on this analysis result. Actual cost estimating calculation approach presented in this study can be utilized as a useful tool to predict the actual cost estimating in the TBM water tunnels field.

  • Cost management is a major function of CM (construction management) companies for clients and cost estimating is a critical task in that it provides a baseline for cost management and a foundation for decision making in construction projects. For this purpose, CM companies need to obtain and use good quality data, which leads to more accurate and efficient cost estimating. As the use of big data becomes increasingly important in the construction industry, researches related to the theme have become the active areas of studies. However, literature review shows that the current situations in relation to the use of big for cost estimating of CM companies are under-researched. The objective of the study is to identify key characteristics and implications in the use of big data for cost estimating of CM companies, which can contribute to develop strategies for such purposes.

  • Since the interest in big data is growing exponentially, various types of research and development in the field of big data have been conducted in the construction industry. Among various application areas, cost estimating can be a topic where the use of big data provides positive benefits. In order for firms to make efficient use of big data for estimating tasks, they need to establish a strategy based on the multifaceted analysis of internal and external environments. The objective of the study is to develop and propose a strategy of the use of big data for construction management(CM) firms' cost estimating tasks based on the SWOT analysis. Through the combined efforts of literature review, questionnaire survey, interviews and the SWOT analysis, the study suggests that CM firms need to maintain the current level of the receptive culture for the use of big data and expand incrementally information resources. It also proposes that they need to reinforce the weak areas including big data experts and practice infrastructure for improving the big data-based cost estimating.

  • To suggest the fundamental data for the estimation of crop evaportranspiration by the ca- lculated coefficients for estimating the radiation suitable to the different regions of korea in application of Penman equcation, the daily data such as sc(skycover), n(actual sunshine hours), N(possible sunshine hours), Rs(horizontal solar radiation) and Ra(extraterrestial solar radiation) for 10 years (from 1977 to 1986) collected from 19 meteorological stations were analysed. The results are summarized as follows : 1. The coefficients a, b and c for estimating the radiation taken by the regression method with the daily and monthly mean data of the skycover and the ratio of Rs to Ra were shown as a=0.619, b= -0.0202, c= -0.0023 and a=0.64, b=0.0377 c=0.0001 in ave- rage respectively. 2. The coefficients a and b for estimating the radiation analysed by the regression and arithmetic method from the daily ratio of sunshine hours and Rs to Ra were shown as a= 0.157, b= 0.529, and a=0.119, b= 0.726 in average, respectively. 3. The coefficients a and b for estimating the radiation calculated by the regression me- thod based on the monthly ratio of sunshine hours and radiation were shown as a=0. 319 and b= 0.557 in average. 4. The values of a and b for estimating the radiation taken from the relationship between the daily ratio of sunshine hours and radiation showed high significance level. 5. The standard deviation and the coefficient of variance between the radiation calculated from the coefficients by the regression and arithmetic method with the daily data and the actual radiation were analysed and compared to the results by the coefficients of the modified Penman method (a=0.18, b=0.55) and by those of the F.A.O inodified Penman method(a=0.25, b=0.5). The standard deviation and the coefficient of varia- nce by the regression method in this study showed the lowest value. 6. From the above results, it is suggested that regression method using the coefficients taken from the relationship between the ratio of sunshine hours and the ratio of radia- tion based on the daily data has the highest accuracy in estimating the radiation. 7. The average reference crop evapotranspiration estimating by the modified Penman me- thod using the coefficients a and b derived by the regression method from the daily meterological data was closer to the actual evapotsranspiration of grass measured in Suwon area than the estimated evapotranspiration by the modified Penman method and the F.A.O modified Penman method.

  • One of the methods for integrating XML data in distributed environments is using XML view. User can query toward distributed local XML views by using global XQuery queries in XQuery which is a standard query language for searching XML data. The global XQuery queries naturally contain join operations because of integrating and searching distributed heterogeneous data. Since join operations are generally expensive for processing a query, its processing technique is very important for efficient processing of global XQuery queries. Therefore there are some studies on the efficient processing of join operations and one of these studies is that selects minimum join cost by estimating a join selectivity. In case of SQL, there are already some researches for estimating a join selectivity and join cost of global SQL queries. However we can not apply their methods for estimating the selectivity of join operations in SQL queries into XQuery queries because of the structural difference between relational data and XML data. Therefore this paper proposes a method for estimating a selectivity of join operations in XQuery queries using the information of XML views. Our contribution is three threefold. First, we define the difference point for estimating join selectivity between SQL and XQuery. Second, we estimate join selectivity in XQuery queries by referring XML views. Third, we evaluate our estimating method.

  • Construction projects are exposed to various types of risks, which tend to increase. The increasing risks call for contractors' more attentions to forecasting and dealing with these risks. One of the measures to deal with contractors' risks is to forecast or estimate risk cost and include it in the construction budget. Although various researches in relation to risk cost have been observed, little attention has been paid to general contractors' perceptions and current practices in estimating risk cost of construction budget. The objective of the study is to identify and discuss key characteristics and implications based on the survey and analysis of general contractors' perceptions and current practices in estimating risk cost of construction budget. The study shows that there is a gap between the perception and the practice of estimating risk cost, that is, high perception of the importance of risk cost and a relatively low level of practice. It suggests that historical cost data, guidelines and corporate-level standard procedures are required to improve the current practice in addition to sufficient time allocations for risk cost estimating. It discusses that there is a need for using sophisticated estimating techniques including bid data analytics despite a low level of the current adoption, and also proposes that research and development in the field of the sophisticated estimating techniques should be further implemented in order to increase their practicality.
