  • 본 논문에서는 디지털 이미지의 무선 전송시 발생하는 에러를 제거 할 수 있는 오류 제어 부호화 기술 중 하나인 RS(Reed-Solomon) coding 중 Encoder의 FPGA 구현에 대한 논문이다. 여러 오류 제어 부호화 기술중 RS coding의 경우 비트가 아닌 심볼로 부호화를 하기 때문에 연집에러에 강한 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 논문에서는 RS coding중 최대 16바이트(Byte)의 에러를 정정할 수 있는 RS(255,223) 부호기를 FPGA 구현을 위해 Matlab을 이용하여 시뮬레이션을 하였다. 이때 사용한 영상은 JPG 파일을 이용하였다. 그리고 FPGA 구현을 위해 Xilinx사의 System Generator를 사용 하였다.

Adaptive Linear Predictive Coding of Time-varying Images Using Multidimensional Recursive Least-squares Ladder Filters

  • This paper presents several adaptive linear predictive coding techniques based upon extension of recursive ladder filters. A 2-D recursive ladder filter is extended to a 3-D case which can adaptively track the variation of both spatial and temporal changes of moving images. Using the 2-D/3-D ladder filter and a previous farme predictor, two types of adaptive predictor-control schemes are proposed in which the prediction error at each pel can be obtained at or close to a minimum level. We also investigate several modifications of the basic encoding methods. Performance of the 2-D/3-D ladder filters, their adaptive control schemes, and variations in coding methods are evaluated by computer simulations on a real sequence and compared to the results of motion compensation and frame differential coders. As a validity test of the ladder filters developed, the error signals for the different predictors are compared and evaluated.

  • This paper modelled the fail-safe control logic through the frequency coding input and designed the 3-out of-6 self checker using the error detect coding method of information redundancy. In addition, this paper also peformed the reliability parallel numeric analysis regarding single module between fail-safe. control logic module and TMR(Triple Modular Redundancy), therefore, we achieved the result that the fail-safe control logic increases a functional reliability because of decreasing system waste cost and functional overhead rather than the existing hardware redundancy method.

Novel Rate Control Scheme for Low Delay Video Coding of HEVC

  • In this paper, a novel rate control scheme for low delay video coding of High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) is proposed. The proposed scheme is developed by considering a new temporal prediction structure of HEVC. In the proposed scheme, the relationship between bit rate and quantization step is exploited firstly to formulate an accurate quadratic rate-quantization (R-Q) model. Secondly, a method of determining the quantization parameters (QPs) for the first frames within a group of pictures is proposed. Thirdly, an accurate frame-level bit allocation method is proposed for HEVC. Finally, based on the proposed R-Q model and the target bit allocated for the frame, the QPs are predicted for coding tree units by using rate-distortion (R-D) optimization. We compare our scheme against that of three other state-of-the-art rate control schemes. Experimental results show that the proposed rate control scheme can increase the Bjøntegaard delta peak signal-to-noise ratio by 0.65 dB and 0.09 dB on average compared with the JCTVC-I0094 and JCTVC-M0036 schemes, respectively, both of which have been implemented in an HEVC test model encoder; furthermore, the proposed scheme achieves a similar R-D performance to Wang's scheme, as well as obtaining the smallest bit rate mismatch error of all the schemes.

APP-MAC-PHY Cross-Layer Video Streaming Technique over Wireless Channels

  • In this letter, we propose a cross-layer technique jointly considering modulation coding schemes (MCSs) of medium access control (MAC) layer, source significance information (SSI) and error concealment unit of application (APP) layer, and channel quality information (CQI) of physical (PHY) layer. We demonstrate the improved video quality by the proposed technique when H.264 videos are streamed over Rayleigh fading wireless channels.

  • We present a powerful error control decoder which can be used in all of the commercial DVD systems. The decoder exploits the error information from the modulation decoder in order to increase the error correcting capability. We can identify that the modulation decoder in DVD system can detect errors more than $60\%$ of total errors when burst errors are occurred. In results, fur a decoded block, error correcting capability of the proposed scheme is improved up to $25\%$ more than that of the original error control decoder. In addition, the more the burst error length is increased, the better the decoder performance. Also, a pipeline-balanced RSPC decoder with a low hardware complexity is designed to maximize the throughput. The maximum throughput of the RSPC decoder is 740Mbps@100MHz and the number of gate counts is 20.3K for RS (182, 172, 11) decoder and 30.7K for RS (208, 192, 17) decoder, respectively

Optimized Channel Coding of Control Channels for Mobile Packet Communication

  • This paper proposes a coding scheme of control channel for mobile packet communication to maximize the minimum Hamming distance, which is based on shifting of basis vectors of Reed Muller code with optimized dynamic puncturing and/or(partial) sequence repetition. Since the maximum likelihood decoding can be performed using the extremely simple FHT(Fast Hadamard Transformation), it is suitable for real time optimum decoding of control channel information with very little complexity. We show applications of the proposed coding method to TFCI(Transport Format Combination Indicator) code in split and normal modes of 3GPP W-CDMA system. We also discuss how this method can reduce rate indication error over AWGN(Additive White Gaussian Noise) as well as fading channels when the proposed coding scheme is applied to 1xEV-DV system of $3^{rd}$TEX> generation partnership project 2(3GPP2) to indicate the data rate transmitted on the reverse traffic channel by a Mobile Station(MS).

Generalized Joint Channel-Network Coding in Asymmetric Two-Way Relay Channels

  • Combining channel coding and network coding in a physical layer in a fading channel, generalized joint channel-network coding (G-JCNC) is proved to highly perform in a two-way relay channel (TWRC). However, most relevant discussions are restricted to symmetric networks. This paper investigates the G-JCNC protocols in an asymmetric TWRC (A-TWRC). A newly designed encoder used by source nodes that is dedicated to correlate codewords with different orders is presented. Moreover, the capability of a simple common non-binary decoder at a relay node is verified. The effects of a power match under various numbers of iteration and code lengths are also analyzed. The simulation results give the optimum power match ratio and demonstrate that the designed scheme based on G-JCNC in an A-TWRC has excellent bit error rate performance under an appropriate power match ratio.

컨볼루션 코딩 OFDM 시스템의 성능 분석 (Performance Evaluation of Convolution Coding OFDM Systems)

  • OFDM 전송방식에서는 여러 개의 부반송파를 사용하여 데이터를 전송한다. 그러므로 송신 비선형 전력증폭기와 반송파 주파수편차에 의한 부반송파 간 간섭으로 인하여 수신기에서 비트 오류율이 증가된다. 무선 다중경로 페이딩 전송채널에서는 여러 개의 OFDM 부반송파 주파수 구간동안 연속적으로 전송이득이 작은 구간이 존재하므로, 전송 시 연집에러가 발생되어, 데이터 재생 시 비트 오류율이 증가 된다. 이러한 연집에러에 의한 비트 오류율의 감소에는 인터리버와 컨볼루션 에러제어코딩이 효과적이다. 한편 파일럿 심볼을 이용하여 전송채널을 추정하는 현 시스템에서는 전송채널 추정에러로 인하여 역시 비트 오류율이 증가된다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 비선형 전력증폭기, 반송파 주파수편차 및 채널추정에러의 영향을 고려하여, 송신 신호가 다중경로 페이딩 채널을 통하여 전송될 때, 인터리버와 컨볼루션 코딩을 이용하는 OFDM 시스템의 데이터 비트 오류율 성능을 분석한다.

웨이브렛 변환계수의 트리구졸르 이용한 방송용 HD-VCR의 부호화 기법 (Tree structured wavelet transform coding scheme for digital HD-VCR)

  • 웨이브렛 변환을 이용하여 방송용 HD-VCR(high definition video cassette recorder)의 요구조건들을 충족시키는 부호화 기법을 제안한다. 고정 비트율(constant bit rate)을 얻기 위하여, 앞 화면(frame)의 부호화 결과를 토대로 현재 화면의 양자화 간격을 결정하는 전망 제어 기법(forward rate control)과, 독립부호(IDC : independently decodable code) 와 종속부호(DOC: dependently dccodable code)로 구성되는 2단계 부호기(2 level codcr) 기법을 제안한다. 에러(error)의 확산을 최소화시키기 위하여, 전체 변환영상을 변환블록(transform block)으로 재구성하고, 각 변환 블록을 트리구조(tree structure)로 표현하여 독립적으로 부호화한다. 실험 결과 제안한 부호화 기법은 기존의 DCT(discrete cosine transform)를 사용한 부호화 기법 보다 같은 압축률에서 블록현상(block effect)이 없는 우수한 화질을 나타냈다. 제안한 전방 제어 기법과, 2단계 부호기를 이용하여 매우 정교한 비트량 제어(rate control)를 구현하였다.
