  • The reduction of the truncation error including numerical diffusion, has been one of the most important tasks in the development of numerical methods. The stream line method is used to cancel cross numerical diffusion and some of the non-diffusion type truncation error. The two-step stream line method which is the combination of the stream line method and finite difference methods is developed in this work for the solution of the govern ing equations of incompressible buoyant turbulent flow. This method is compared with the finite difference method. The predictions of both classes of numerical methods are compared with experimental findings. Truncation error analysis also has been performed in order to the compare truncation error of the stream line method with that of finite difference methods.

  • In this paper, we propose an error diffusion image halftoning technique based on the noise spectrum shaping. The new technique can arbitrarily control the shape of the display error spectrum whereas conventional halftoning algorithms have been known to minimize dc errors only in which case edge information cannot be properly rendered. As a method for estimating the error diffusion coefficients, a least mean square (LMS) approach is adopted.

  • A halftoning method is used to obtain a binary image visually similar to a continuous gray-level image through the image output devices employing the limited number of gray-levels. As a halftoning method, the error diffusion method is widely used in various applications because of its low computational complexity and good image quality. However, this method weakens the edge in the process of error diffusion to the neighboring pixels. In this case, degradation of the edge quality and damage of the vivid image is expected. To solve these problems, the proposed method determines the adaptive error filter considering the error information of the present pixel and edge distribution of the neighbor pixels. Compared with the conventional methods for enhancing edges, the proposed method involves relatively a few process resources because of its simple procedure, still considerably improving the edges in the halftone image. To evaluate the objective image quality, the performance of the proposed method is compared with that of the conventional method in terms of the edge correlation and the local average accordance.

  • In this paper, we introduce a numerical approach to solve heat-diffusion equation with discontinuous diffusion coefficients in the three dimensional rectangular domain. First, we study the support operator method and suggest a new method, the continuous velocity method. Further, we apply both methods to a diffusion process for neurotransmitter release in an individual synapse and compare their results.

  • PDP is the flat panel display, suitable for high definition television because of large-sire and high-brightness. It has many advantages such as fast response, wide viewing angle, low weight, and simple manufacturing process for fabrication. However, there are some disadvantages and one of them is the image quality degradation, which is dependent on the digital signal processing. Although image quality of PDP is improving by many researches and experimentations, it still isn't as good as that of CRT because of various factors. One of them is worm-like pattern generated by an error diffusion process. And the worm-like pattern is severely increased after an APL process. An increased worm-like pattern occur a drop of resolution in image and a change of CCT according to each grayscale. In this paper, a method for improvement of image quality using the error diffusion which considers the APL process is proposed. In the proposed method, the APL process is performed before the error diffusion process. Simulation results showed that the proposed method has better performances for resolution in images and CCT uniformity according to each grayscale than the conventional method.

  • Self diffusion coefficients of $^{67}$Co and impurity diffusion coefficients of $^{51}$Mn and $^{65}$Zn in single crystalline CoO have been measured by applying different radioactive isotopes simultaneously. To compare the residual activity method and the tracer sectioning method we analyzed our tracer diffusion experiments by using both methods simultaneously. According to our experimental results, the diffusion coefficients obtained from both methods are identical within experimental error, demonstrating the relibility of our experimental procedures. The diffusion coefficients of all the isotopes obtained during these test experiments for the methodology are similar in magnitude and show similar dependences on oxygen partial pressure. These first observations indicate that impurity diffusion of Mn and Zn occur via a vacancy mechanism as known for self diffusion of cobalt.

  • Error analysis of finite difference equation on the Muskingum-Cunge flood routing method with free time and space weighting factor was carried out. The error analysis shows that the numerical solution of the Muskingum-Cunge method becomes diverged with time when the sum of time weighting factor and space weighting factor is greater than 1.0. Numerical diffusion increases when the sum of time weighting factor and space weighting factor decreases. Numerical diffusion and numerical oscillation increase when the grid resolution is coarse. Numerical experiments and field applications show that the Muskingum-Cunge method with free space weighting factor is more effective for simulating the flood routing with great peak diminution than conventional Muskingum-Cunge method with fixed space weighting factor, 0.5.

  • The error diffusion method is good for reproducing continuous image to binary image. However the reproduction of edge characteristic is weak in power spectrum analysis of display error. In this paper. we present an edge-enhanced error-diffusion method which include pre-processing algorithm for edge characteristic enhancement. Pre-processing algorithm consists of the difference value between current pixel and local average of original image and weighting function of pre-filter. First. it is obtained the difference value between current pixel and the local average of peripheral pixels(5x5) in original image. Second, weighting function of pre-filter is composed by function including absolute value and sign of difference value. The improved Error diffusion algorithm using pre-processing algorithm, present a good result visually which edge characteristic is enhanced. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with that of the conventional edge-enhanced error diffusion by measuring the RAPSD of display error, the egde correlation and the local average accordance.

  • This paper proposes a numerical method based on domain decomposition to find approximate solutions for one-dimensional convection-diffusion equations with Neumann boundary conditions. First, the equations are transformed into convection-diffusion equations with Dirichlet conditions. Second, the author introduces the Prediction/Correction Domain Decomposition (PCDD) method and estimates errors for the interface prediction scheme, interior scheme, and correction scheme using known error estimations. Finally, the author compares the PCDD algorithm with the fully explicit scheme (FES) and the fully implicit scheme (FIS) using three examples. In comparison to FES and FIS, the proposed PCDD algorithm demonstrates good results.

  • Halftoning of gray-scale image is a process to produce a binary image. The error diffusion halftoning method produces high qualify binary image but that has some defects such as sharpening and directional artifacts. We propose the threshold modulation to reduce such defects. The proposed algorithm uses thresholds reflecting local characteristic of image. We calculate thresholds which minimize errors of flat region of each gray-scale level by using a linear gain between original image and error-diffused image and then represent edge by compensating thresholds in proportion to edge information. The proposed method improves on halftone quality by minimizing an error which cause sharpening and directional artifact.
