Design and Implementation of Butler Matrix (버틀러 매트릭스의 설계 및 구현)

  • Beam forming techniques are used to increase the efficiency of using frequency. In this paper we design and implement Butler matrix to be used for ISM band. The implemented Butler matrix has the insertion loss of maximum 6.7dB and the maximum phase shift error of $-6.51^{\circ}{\sim}7.17^{\circ}$ over 2.4~2.485GHz.

  • A general equation by which the Hessian matrix of an error function can be determined directly, has been derived. It was verified to be useful in optimization processes that include the Hessian matrix. A few design examples had shown that this method had accelerated the processes of finding the minimums. The advantage of this technique is the possibility of optimizing functions that composed of both the phases and magnitudes.

  • A new approach to the critical speed calculation of general multi-mesh gear chain system included bevel gear is presented. A transfer matrix mode! based on Hibner's branch method is developed and the natural properties of the branched rotor system are calculated with using the ${\lambda}$-matrix formulation. A Campbell diagram, in which the excitation sources caused by the mass unbalance of the rotors, misalignment and the transmitted errors of the gearing are considered, shows that, at the neighborhood of the operating speed, there are the two critical speeds amplifying the first mode and the eighth mode.

  • An empirical way of a covariance matrix which expresses the odometry uncertainty of mobile robots is proposed. This method utilizes PC-method which removes systematic errors of odometry. Once the systematic errors are removed, the odometry error can be modeled using the Gaussian probability distribution, and the parameters of the distribution can be represented by the covariance matrix. Experimental results show that the method yields $5{\%}$ and $2.3{\%}$ offset for the synchro and differential drive robots.

  • Jacket matrices, motivated by the complex Hadamard matrix, have played important roles in signal processing, communications, image compression, cryptography, etc. In this paper, we suggest a novel approach to design a simple class of space-time block codes (STBCs) to reduce its peak-to-average power ratio. The proposed code provides coding gain due to the characteristics of the complex Hadamard matrix, which is a special case of Jacket matrices. Also, it can achieve full rate and full diversity with the simple decoding. Simulations show the good performance of the proposed codes in terms of symbol error rate. For generality, a kind of quasi-orthogonal STBC may be similarly designed with the improved performance.

  • The simplest method which has been used extensively for vibration analysis is the transfer matrix method introduced by Myklestad and was later extended by many researchers. The crude approximation results in considerable error on the predicted natural frequencies and to increase the accuracy the number of elements used in the analysis must be increased. In addition, numerical instability can occur as a result of matrix multiplication. Also the main disadvantage of the finite element method is the large computer memory requirements for complex systems. The new method proposed in this paper combines the transfer matrix and finite dynamic element techniques to form a powerful algorithm for vibration analysis of rotor system. It is shown that the accuracy improves significantly when the transfer matrix for each segment is obtained from finite dynamic element techniques.

Measurement Error Modeling for On-Machine Measurement of Sculptured Surfaces

  • The objective of this research is to develop a measurement error model for sculptured surface in On-Machine Measurement(OMM) process based on a closed-loop configuration. The geometric error model of each axis of a vertical CNC machining center is derived using a 4$\times$4 homogeneous transformation matrix. The ideal locations of a touch-type probe for the sculptured surface measurement are calculated from the parametric surface representation and X-, Y- directional geometric errors of the machine. Also the actual coordinates of the probe are calculated by considering the pre-travel variation of a probe and Z-directional geometric errors. Then, the step-by-sep measurement error analysis method is suggested based on a closed-loop configuration of the machining center including workpiece and probe errors. The simulation study shows the simplicity and effectiveness of the proposed error modeling strategy.

  • The pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics analysis software NONMEM$^{(R)}$ output provides model parameter estimates and associated standard errors. However, the standard error of empirical Bayes estimates of inter-subject variability is not available. A simple and direct method for estimating standard error of the empirical Bayes estimates of inter-subject variability using the NONMEM$^{(R)}$ VI internal matrix POSTV is developed and applied to several pharmacokinetic models using intensively or sparsely sampled data for demonstration and to evaluate performance. The computed standard error is in general similar to the results from other post-processing methods and the degree of difference, if any, depends on the employed estimation options.

  • Presented in this paper is a complete error covariance analysis for strapdown inertial navigation system(SDINS). We have found that in SDINS the cross-coupling terms in gyrocompass alignment errors can significantly influence the SDINS error propagation. Initial heading error has a close correlation with the east component of gyro bias erro, while initial level tilt errors are closely related to accelerometer bias errors. In addition, pseudo-state variables are introduced in covariance analysis for SDINS utilizing the characteristics of gyrocompass alignment errors. This approach simplifies the covariance analysis because it makes the initial error covariance matrix to a diagonal form. Thus a real implementation becomes easier. The approach is conformed by comparing the results for a simplified case with the covariance analysis obtained from the conventional SDINS error model.

  • This paper introduces a new approach to analysis of error convergence for a class of iterative learning control systems. First, a nonlinear plant is represented using a Takagi-Sugeno(T-S) fuzzy model. Then each iterative learning controller is designed for each linear plant in the T-S fuzzy model. From the view point of two-dimensional(2-D) system theory, we transform the proposed learning systems to a 2-D error equation, which is also established in the form of T-S fuzzy model. We analysis the error convergence in the sense of induced 2 L -norm, where the effects of disturbances and initial conditions on 2-D error are considered.
