Simulations of PEC columns with equivalent steel section under gravity loading

  • This paper presents numerical simulations of partially encased composite columns (PEC) with equivalent steel sections. The composite section of PEC column consists of thin walled welded H- shaped steel section with transverse links provided at regular intervals between the flanges. Concrete is poured in the space between the flanges and the web plate. Most of the structural analysis and design software do not handle such composite members due to highly nonlinear material behavior of concrete as well as due to the complex interfacial behaviour of steel and concrete. In this paper an attempt has been made to replace the steel concrete composite section by an equivalent steel section which can be easily incorporated in the design and analysis software. The methodology used for the formulation of the equivalent steel section is described briefly in the paper. Finite element analysis is conducted using the equivalent steel section of partially encased composite columns tested under concentric gravity loading. The reference test columns are obtained from the literature, encompassing a variety of geometric and material properties. The finite element simulations of the composite columns with equivalent steel sections are found to predict the experimental behaviour of partially encased composite columns with very good accuracy.

  • Low vibration characteristics of a vehicle are mainly influenced by the local stiffness of the joint structure beam section. The method of substituting equivalent beam element to spring element for the joint is presented. Formation process of the equivalent beam joint modeling is described in terms of key section properties. To get required dynamic characteristics section properties of the equivalent beam element are set to design variables. The study shows that the equivalent beam joint model can be effectively used for low frequency vibration analysis of a vehicle.

자율비행 개인항공기용 주익 조립체 등가모델 동특성 해석 (Equivalent Model Dynamic Analysis of Main Wing Assembly for Optionally Piloted Personal Air Vehicle)

  • 본 연구에서는 신개념 항공교통수단으로 활용될 자율비행 개인항공기 개발의 일환으로 자율비행 개인항공기 주익조립체의 등가모델을 생성한 후 고유모드 해석을 통해 생성된 등가모델의 신뢰성을 검증하였다. 주익조립체는 주익, 안쪽파드, 바깥쪽 파드로 구성되어 있다. 먼저, 각 부품의 등가모델을 생성하기 위해서 해당 부품을 몇 개의 구역으로 분할하고, 각 구역의 양 끝단에 등가모델 축상에 놓이는 절점들을 생성하였다. 그리고, 단위하중과 단위모멘트을 부과한 정적해석을 통해 변형량 또는 회전량을 계산하고, 빔 이론식을 적용하여 각 부품들의 등가 축강성, 굽힘강성, 비틀림강성을 계산하였다. 그리고, 각 구역 중앙에 집중질량을 생성하여 질량과 관성모멘트 정보를 입력하고, 빔 요소를 사용하여 등가모델을 생성하였다. 최종적으로 상세모델의 모드해석 결과와의 비교를 통해 생성된 등가모델의 신뢰성을 확인하였다.

  • 3D finite element analyses of a corrugated steel web girder and a steel truss web girder are conducted to investigate the static and dynamic behaviour of the hybrid girders. And the analyses results are compared with those by the equivalent beam theory. The equivalent theory is a theory that all section properties of a truss structure are replaced by section properties of a beam including the shear coefficient. When applying the equivalent beam theory, the shear coefficient of the corrugated steel web girder is estimated as the area ratio of total section to web section and that of the steel truss web girder is calculated by the equation proposed by Dewolf. Static deflections and natural frequencies by 3D finite element analyses and the those by the equivalent beam theory are relatively in good agreement.

A Study on Determination of Shear Center of Beam with Arbitrary Cross Section

  • It is important to find the shear center of beam with arbitrary cross-section in structures. In this study, it is introduced to determine the shear center that gets the equivalent stiffness matrix representing arbitrary cross section of beam and applies concepts of equivalent energy. This method shows the results of applying on examples that the exact and approximate solution of open and cross section of beam is known. The shear center of composite rotor blade by the experiment and by the suggested method was compared in this study.

  • In this paper the method of modeling and optimization for the joint of the vehicle structure is proposed. First it is described that the method of substituting equivalent beam elements to spring elements for the joint. The stiffnesses of the spring elementsare calculated using the section properties of equivalent beam elements. To get required dynamic characteristics section properties of equivalent beam element are set to design variables and optimized. The study shows that joint stiffnesses can be effectively determined in designing vehicle structure.

  • 복부 파형강판 거더와 복합 트러스 거더의 정적 및 동적거동 특성을 분석하기 위해 3차원 유한요소해석을 수행하였고, 이 결과를 등가보 이론에 의한 해석결과와 비교하였다. 등가보 이론은 트러스 구조의 모든 단면제원을 등가의 보로 치환함과 동시에 전단계수 등의 단면특성을 고려한 이론이다. 등가보 이론 적용 시 복부 파형강판 거더의 전단계수는 복부 단면적에 대한 전체 단면적의 비로 산정하였고, 복합 트러스 거더의 전단계수는 Abdel의 계산식을 사용하여 산정하였다. 정적해석 및 자유진동해석 결과 3차원 유한요소모델을 이용한 해석결과가 전단변형을 고려한 등가보 이론에 의한 해석결과와 잘 일치하였다.

  • This paper presents the optimization design technique on the joint stiffness and section characteristic factors of chassis frame, by using beam and spring elements in a given design package. Two correction methods are used for the optimization design of chassis frame. First is the equivalent inertia of moment method in relation to the section characteristic factors of joint zones, which are thickness , width and height of frame channel section. Second is the rotational spring element with joint stiffness of joint zones. The CAE example shows that the relationship of section characteristic factors and joint stiffness can effectively be used in designing chassis frame. In this point, if static and dynamic targets are given, the joint-zone and section characteristic factors of chassis frame intended may be designed and defined by using beam and rotational spring elements.

전송선로 이론에 기초한 파장 변환 DFB 레이저의 정적 및 동적 작용 (Static and Dynamic Behavior of Tunable DFB Laser based on Modal Transmission-Line Theory)

  • 2단으로 구성된 DFB 레이저의 정적 및 동적 작용을 분석하기 위하여 종방향 모드 전송선로 이론 (L-MTLT)을 이용하였다. 활성영역을 갖는 DFB 구조의 특성 임피던스와 등가 전파상수를 L-MTLT에 기초하여 유도하였다. 2단으로 구성된 DFB 레이저가 전송선로 망으로 유사화 되었으며, 각 단은 그에 대응하는 등가 요소들로 등가화된 전송선로 블록으로 나타내었다. 등가 전송선로 망에 기초한 DFB 레이저의 종방향 공진 조건 (resonance condition)이 레이트 방정식 (rate equation)을 재구성하기 위하여 사용되었으며, 이를 이용하여 활성여역을 갖는 2단 DFB 레이저의 정적 및 동적 작용을 자세하게 분석하였다.
