Static and Dynamic Behavior of Tunable DFB Laser based on Modal Transmission-Line Theory (전송선로 이론에 기초한 파장 변환 DFB 레이저의 정적 및 동적 작용)

  • A longitudinal modal transmission-line theory(L-MTLT) to analyze the static and dynamic behavior of two-section distributed feedback (DFB) lasers is used. The characteristic impedance and equivalent propagation constant of DFB structure with active layer are derived from L-MTLT. A two-section DFB laser is analogous to a transmission-line network, in which each section is described by transmission-line block corresponding to the equivalent factors. The longitudinal resonant condition of DFB laser based on equivalent transmission-line network is used to reformulate the rate equations so that static and dynamic behavior of two-section DFB lasers with active layer is demonstrated and analyzed accurately.

  • Chuas circuit is a simple electronic network which exhibits a variety of bifurcation and attractors. The circuit consists of two capacitors, an inductor, a linear resistor, and a nonlinear resistor. In this paper, a transmitter and a receiver using two identical Chuas circuits are proposed and synchronizations of a equivalent wire and wireless power line are investigated. Since the synchronization of the equivalent wire and wireless system is impossible by coupled synchronization, theory having both the drive-response and the coupled synchronization is proposed. As a result, the chaos synchronization has delay characteristics in the equivalent wire and wireless transmission system caused by the line parameters L and C.

  • The filtering characteristics of planar distributed feedback (DFB) waveguides composed by gratings with different period are solved using equivalent transmission-line network. To analyze explicitly its band-pass and resonance properties, a longitudinal modal transmission-line theory (L-MTLT) based on Floquet's theorem and Babinet's principle is newly developed. The numerical results reveal that this approach offers a simple and analytic algorithm to analyze the filtering characteristics of cascaded DFB structure with different period, and the bandwidth and side-lobe suppression of cascaded DFB filter are sensitively dependent on the variation of aspect ratio and the number of grating at each region.

  • This paper investigates the complex permittivity of foam materials using the rectangular waveguide. The transmission coefficients of materials inserted in the waveguide are measured with a network analyzer and calculated from the equivalent transmission line model. We use the trial and error method in the acquisition of the complex permittivity.

Modelling the Mode Behavior of Circular Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser

  • The design characteristics of circular vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers are studied by using a newly developed equivalent network. Optical parameters, such as the stop-band or the reflectivity of periodic mirrors and the resonance wavelength, are explored for the design of these structures. To evaluate the differential quantum efficiency and the threshold current density, a transverse resonance condition of modal transmission-line theory is also utilized. This approach dramatically reduces the computational time as well as gives an explicit insight to explore the optical characteristics of circular vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs).

  • In this paper, impedance characteristics of overhead medium-voltage (MV) power lines is reported for power line communication (PLC) over an MV power line network. For analysis, a two-port equivalent network model of MV power lines is derived. By applying the transmission line theory, reflection behavior and impedance of power lines are investigated. For verification, impedance of power lines is measured at a test field for an MV PLC. The results show that impedance of MV power lines is between $200{\Omega}$ and $300{\Omega}$ and converges to a half of their characteristic impedance.

  • The transmission capacity of transmission lines is affected by environmental parameters such as ambient temperature, wind speed, wind direction and so on. The environmental parameters can be measured by the installed measuring devices. However, it is impossible to install the environmental measuring devices throughout the line, especially considering economic cost of power grid. Taking into account the limited number of measuring devices and the distribution characteristics of environment parameters and transmission lines, this paper first studies the environmental parameter estimating method of inverse distance weighted interpolation and ordinary Kriging interpolation. Dynamic thermal rating of transmission lines based on IEEE standard and CIGRE standard thermal equivalent equation is researched and the key parameters that affect the load capacity of overhead lines is identified. Finally, the distributed thermal rating of transmission line is realized by using the data obtained from China meteorological data network. The cost of the environmental measurement device is reduced, and the accuracy of dynamic rating is improved.

In this paper, a transmitter and a receiver using two identical Chua's circuits are proposed and synchronizations and secure communication of a lossy equivalent transmission are investigated. Since the synchronization of the lossy equivalent transmission system is impossible by coupled synchronization, theory having both the drive-response and the coupled synchronization is proposed. The proposed method is synthesizing the desired information with the chaos circuit by adding the information signal to the chaos signal in the lossy equivalent transmission system.
