  • The industrial induction motor is widely used in the rotating electrical machine for the transmission of power. It is very reliable equipment, but it could lead to the loss of production and lift when failure occurs. Therefore, the failure data is acquired and analyzed by attaching an exclusive instrument to existing induction motor. However, these instruments could lead to side effects, increasing the production costs, because they are very expensive. The purpose of this study is the development of an induction motor bearing failure diagnosis system constructed using LabVIEW which can be supplied the kernelled function, process monitoring and current signature analysis. In addition, the availability and reasonability of the constructed system was examined for an induction motor with failure defects in outer raceway and ball bearing. From the results, it shows that failure diagnosis system constructed is useful for real-time monitoring with detection of bearing defects over the web.

  • This study considers reliability growth management as the excellent method for construction equipment development with the effect on decreasing COPQ(Cost of Poor Quality Cost) of new products. MIL-HDBK-189A(1981) and RADC-TR-84-20(1984) standards provide a general concept of reliability growth management including to reliability growth test, models and FRACAS(Failure Reporting and Corrective Action System). There is no study how to apply reliability growth management to construction equipment(or machine) development. This paper propose the method to apply it to construction equipment development process from the reliability target setting for developing products to launching them at market. It is expecially showing how to set target reliability for new developing equipment and the development risk to reach the reliability target in detail.

  • The reliability of control system composed of electronic parts has been studied by DoD since 1960, and has been undertaken mainly by Europe for railways. Especially in Korea, a study on reliability of signalling equipment has been taken since 2000, requiring reliability test for effective maintenance of old type signalling equipment which no longer has information on its past reliability. This study evaluates the reliability test in units of parts for old type signalling equipment; for instance, failure rate in units of parts, or failure data during operation; which was utilized without its consistent reliability monitoring and analysis data for over 20 years. Also, reliability change at this point in time has been estimated by using residual life span function, and a model which can evaluate the possibility of extended operation through stress acceleration test has been developed. This model will be utilized to establish future maintenance policy for train operating company's operation on old type signalling equipment.

  • Nonstructural components, such as electrical equipment, have critical roles in the proper functionality of various infrastructure systems. Some of these devices in certain facilities should operate even under strong seismic shaking. However, it is challenging to define each mechanical and operational failure and determine system failure probabilities under seismic shaking due to the uncertainties in earthquake excitations and the diversity of electrical equipment, among other factors. Therefore, it is necessary to develop effective and practical probabilistic models for performance assessment of electrical equipment considering variations in equipment features and earthquakes. This study will enhance the understanding of the effect of rocking behavior on nonstructural equipment, and linear-to-nonlinear behavior of restrainers. In addition, this study will generate probabilistic seismic demand models of rigid equipment for a set of conventional and novel intensity measures.

  • As the weapon system's dependence on software functions increased, software became a key factor in controlling the weapon system. In addition, as software development becomes more important domestically and internationally, software verification becomes an issue. The recent defense market has recognized this point and is demanding a plan for weapon system software maintenance. In this paper, we propose a weapon system software maintenance plan using Automatic Test Equipment. The specific method is to use a simulator to check the software function and identify failure cases. This is an effective way for developers to reduce the Total Corrective Maintenance Time(TCM) of the weapon system by reducing the time it takes to identify failure cases. It has been proven that the proposed Automatic Test Equipment can achieve software maintenance and excellent Maintainability and Operational Availability compared to the existing ones.

  • It is very important for the manufacturers to predict the life of hydraulic system components according to the results of life tests. Since it takes too much time to test the hydraulic system components until failure, the no-failure test method is applied for the life test of them. If the shape parameter of Weibull distribution, the number of samples, the confidence level, and the assurance life are given, the no-failure test times of hydraulic system components can be calculated by given equation. Here, the procedures to obtain the no-failure test times of the hydraulic system components such as hydraulic motors and pumps, hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic valves, hydraulic accumulators, hydraulic hoses, and hydraulic filters are described briefly.

  • Reliability analysis and prediction of next failure time is critical to sustain weapon systems, concerning scheduled maintenance, spare parts replacement and maintenance interventions, etc. Since 1981, many methodology derived from various probabilistic and statistical theories has been suggested to do that activity. Nowadays, many A.I. tools have been used to support these predictions. Support Vector Regression(SVR) is a nonlinear regression technique extended from support vector machine. SVR can fit data flexibly and it has a wide variety of applications. This paper utilizes SVM and SVR with combining time series to predict the next failure time based on historical failure data. A numerical case using failure data from the military equipment is presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed approach. Finally, the proposed approach is proved meaningful to predict next failure point and to estimate instantaneous failure rate and MTBF.

  • The objective of this paper is to evaluate the reliability of a volute pump and presents test results through performance and life tests. The performance and life test methods were presented by analyzing the failure modes of the volute pump. Zero failure test time was calculated to evaluate the reliability of the volute pump and then, the test was performed under accelerated conditions. The test was also carried out to check the failure modes of the field conditions. This study can be provided to improve the product reliability through failure analysis of the volute pump. And failure cause of typical failure case has been investigated and improvement design has been presented. The performance test results of before and after the accelerated life test were presented to confirm the improved reliability of the volute pump.

  • Equipment replacement policy may not be defined with certainty, because physical states of any technological system may not be determined with foresight. This paper presents Markov Decision Process(MDP) model for army equipment which is subject to the uncertainty of deterioration and ultimately to failure. The components of the MDP model is defined as follows: ⅰ) state is identified as the age of the equipment, ⅱ) actions are classified as 'keep' and 'replace', ⅲ) cost is defined as the expected cost per unit time associated with 'keep' and 'replace' actions, ⅳ) transition probability is derived from Weibull distribution. Using the MDP model, we can determine the optimal replacement policy for an army equipment replacement problem.
