The SWATH concept hull form which is capable of high speed navigation with small oscillatory motions in waves, was developed from the catamaran type hull forms. This paper describes how the motion of a SWATH ship in irregular waves can be reduced by regulating the stabilizing fins. The optimal regulator and LQG (Linear Quadratic Gaussian) controller for vertical plane motion have been applied for both platforming mode and contouring mode controls. The calculations of hydrodynamic coefficients and external forces are possible for defining the system equation for the design purpose of motion control. Performances of the controlled system are compared with those of original system.

An efficient method based on analytic solutions is applied to solve anti-plane Mode III crack problems. The analytic technique developed earlier by the present authors for Laplace's equation in a simply-connected region is now extended to general Mode III crack problems. Unlike typical numerical methods which require fine meshing near crack tips, the present method divides the cracked bodies, typically non-convex or multiply-connected, into only a few super elements. In each super element, an element stiffness matrix, relating the series coefficients of the traction and displacement, is first formed. Then an assembly algorithm similar to that used in the finite elements, is first formed. Then an assembly algorithm similar to that used in the finite elements, is developed. A big advantage of the present method is that only the boundary conditions are to be satisfied in the solution procedure due to the use of analytic solutions. Several numerical results demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the present method.
In this paper, S (stochastic)-eigenvalue concept and its S-eigenvector for linear continuous-time systems with probabilistic uncertainties is proposed. The proposed concept is concerned with the perturbation of eigenvalues due to the probabilistic variable parameters in the dynamic model of a plant. S-eigenstructure assignment scheme via the Sylvester equation approach based on the S-eigenvalue concept is also proposed. The proposed design schemes are illustrated by numerical examples, and applied to the longitudinal dynamics of open-loop-unstable aircraft with possible uncertainties in aerodynamic and thrust effects as well as separate dynamic pressure. These results explicitly characterize how S-eigenvalues in the complex plane may impose stability on S-eigenstructure assignment.

An asymptotic solution of electromagnetic waves scattered by an arbitrary-angled dielectric wedge in the E-polarized plane wave incidence is obtained by adding a correction to the physical optical fields given in the previous paper of these companion papers, Part I. The source for the asymptotic correction field valid in the far-field region can be equivalent to the multipole line sources at the tip of the wedge, of which coefficients are evaluated numerically by solving a dual series equation. The corrected field patterns are plotted for the typical case treated in Part I.

Based on the shear failure mechanism, hydraulic fracturing criteria are extended to three dimensional stress state. According to the situation of the directions of borehole and major principal stress axes, three equations can be derived for three dimensional hydraulic fracturing problems. By comparing these equations, a single criterion is selected for hydraulic fracturing pressure in cohesive soils. The criterion is a function of maximum principal stress, minimum principal stress and soil parameters in UU conditions. The equation indicates that with any increase in maximim principal stress, hydraulic fracturing pressure decreases. In order to prove the integrity of the criteria, laboratory tests are performed on compacted cubical specimens using true a triaxial apparatus. The shape and direction of fractures are determined by injecting colored water after fracture initiation. It is found that the direction of fractures are perpendicular to the o1 plane.
The planar anisotripic FEM analysis for predicting earing profiles and draw-in amounts in the deep-drawing process is introduced. An implicit, incremental, updated Lagrangian formulation with a rigid-viscoplastic constitutive equation is employed. Contact and friction are considered through the mesh-based unit vector and normal contact pressure. The consistent full set of governing relations, which is comprising euilbrium and geometric constraint equations, is appropriately linearized. Barlat's strain-rate potential is employed, whose in-plane anisotropic properties are taken into account with anisotropic coefficients and potential parameters. The linear triangular membrane elements are used for depicting the formed sheet. In the numerical simulations of deep drawing processes of a flat-top cylindrical cup for 2090-T3 aluminum alloy sheet show good agreement with experiments, although some discrepancies were observed in the directional trend of cup height and thickness strains.

This paper presents a new circular curve fitting approach of articulated manipulators, based on pseudoinverses. The paper aims at gaining the interpolation of circle from n data points, under the condition that the fitted circle should pass both a start point and an end point. In this paper, two algorithms of circular interpolation are presented. Prior to circular interpolation, are a spherical fitting should be performed, using least squares. In the first algorithm, the relationship between point data and normal vector on the sphere is used. In the second algorithm. the equation of plane which can be obtained from 3 points, i.e., a start point, an end point, and center of a sphere. The proposed algorithms are show to be efficient by using MATLAB-based simulation.
The sectional forming analysis of stamping pocesses for aluminum alloy sheet metals was investigated. For the modeling of the anomalous behavior of aluminum alloy sheet. the Barlat's strain rate potential and Hill's 1990 non-quadratic yield theory with an isotropic hardening rule were employed. The rigid-viscoplastic FEM formulation which solves equilibrium equation for plane-strain stage with mesh-normal geometric constraints was derived. A new method to determine the Barlat's anisotropic coefficients was also suggested. To verify the validity of the formulation, the stretch and draw forming processes of a square cup were simulated.

The object of this study is to analize the trilateration adjustment by FEM. FEM is a numerical method for analysis dealing with problems of displacement and variation about the object. Since a plane trilateration net can be likend to a plan structural frame work in stress analysis, the technic of FEM can be used for trilateration adjustment Thus, this study applied FEM and Condition Equation Method to a trilateration adjustment, and investigated precision and characteristics of them.

Contrary to reinforced concrete frames, the beams or girders found in actual steel frames are neither hinged nor fixed at their ends. Instead, they are usually restrained by the columns to which they are attached. Here in this paper, common finite element program for plane frame stress analysis is improved by including the effect of partial fixities of the girder ends. To include the effect of partial fixities of the girder ends, Kim's modified slope-deflection equation is adopted. The stress analysis results obtained by this proposed method are then compared with Kim's example. Finally, method of choosing the most economic girder section for a multi-story frame is suggested through the examples.
