  • We prepared the amine epoxy adducts (AEA)/thin multiwalled carbon nanotubes (TWCNTs) composite particles using nonsolvent based methods including dry mechano-chemical bonding(MCB) process and supercritical fluid (SCF) process. The resulting TWCNTs/AEA composite particles have been used as curing agents for urethane modified bispheol A type epoxy resin. The thermal, thermomechanical properties of the epoxy resins cured with TWCNTs/AEA composite particles were measured by DMA and the dispersion of CNT was characterized by SEM. Because of high degree of CNT dispersion, thermal and mechanical properties of the epoxy resin cured with TWCNTs/AEA composite particles prepared by SCF process are better than those cured with mechano-chemically prepared TWCNTs/AEA composite particles.

  • In this study, the flame retardancy and tensile properties of epoxy acrylate resin containing flame retardants based on phosphorous, bromine or metal hydroxide are investigated. It was found that the enhancement in flame retardancy of epoxy acrylate with decabromodiphenyl oxide (DECA) addition was better than the addition of 2,2,2-trichloroethyl dichlorophosphate (TCEDP). It seems that the high loading of TCEDP may delay the formation of crosslinking network and consequently decreases the conversion of epoxy acrylate. It was found that magnesium hydroxide ($Mg(OH)_2$) does not improve the flame retardancy of epoxy acrylate after added up to 40 wt%. The synergic effects were clearly observed for epoxy acrylate containing DECA/TCEDP combined flame retardants.

  • Nitrite-Type hydrocalumite (calumite) is a material that can provied a self-corrosion inhibition function to the reinforce concrete. In this study, bisphnol A·F type epoxy-midified mortars without hardner contaning calumite is prepared with various polimer-binder ratios, calumite contents and tow types of curing condition, and tested for flexural and compressive strength tensile strength and corrosion-inhibition. As a result, in the case of wet/dry curing condition, strengths of bisphnol A·F type epoxy-modified mortars without hardener contaning calumite is inclined to decrease with increasing of polymer-binder ratio and calumite content. However, dry cured specimens are slightly improved by using bisphnol A·F type epoxy resin. Finally, regardless of polymer-binder ratios and calumite contents, corrosion-inhibition of bisphnol A·F type epoxy-modified mortars without hardener containing calumite is superior than that of unmodified mortar.

  • Interpenerating Polymer Networks (IPNs) are unique type of polymer blend, synthesized by swelling a crossed polymer (Epoxy) with second polymer (Silicon) and also we adopted Urethane as the second polymer. The relationship between dielectric and mechanical properties of high temperature curing IPNs(E/S, E/U) are investigated. The ratios of weight that we formed we re two kind of thing, one (E/S) about 1[wt%]. 3[wt%], 5[wt%], 7[wt%], 10[wt%], and the other (E/U) about 5[wt%], 15[wt%], 25[wt%]. It was heat-cured for 24hours at $100^{\circ}C$ 48 hours at $10^{\circ}C$, 5 hours at $130^{\circ}C$, 15hours at $130^{\circ}C$ in E/S and also for 5 hours at $130^{\circ}C$ in E/U. From the viewpoint of dielectric and mechanical properties, the optimum condition is obtained from the sample cured for 5hours at $130^{\circ}C$ for 1[wt%] in the E/S, and also obtained from the sample cure d for 5 hours at $130^{\circ}C$ in E/U.

  • In this study, in order to investigate the applicability of IPN structure to epoxy resin which has been widely used as electrical and electronic insulating materials, DC dielectric breakdown properties and morphology were compared and analyzed according to variation of network structure, using the single network structure specimen formed of epoxy resin alone, interpenetrating polymer network specimen formed of epoxy resin/methacrylic acid resin, and interpenetrating polymer network specimen formed of epoxy resin/methacrylic acid resin/polyurethane resin. As results of the measunnent of DC dielectric breakdown strength at 50[.deg. C] and 130[>$^{\circ}C$], IPN specimen formed of epoxn, resin 100[phr] and methacrylic acid resin 35[phr] was the most excellent, and which corresponded to the SEM phenomena. The effect of IPN was more remarkable at high temperature region than at low temperature region. It is supposed that the defect of epoxy resin, dielectric breakdown strength is lowered remarkably at high temperature region, be complemented according to introducing IPN method.

  • In this study, in order to develop outdoor insulating materials, SIN(simultaneous interpenetrating polymer network) was introduced to Epoxy resin and the environment resistance was investigated. The single network structure specimen(E series) formed of Epoxy resin alone and simultaneous interpenetrating polymer network specimen (EM series) in which epoxy resin was taken as the first network and methyl methacrylate resin as the second network were manufactured. Ten kinds of specimens were manufacture by filler (SiO$_2$) content. SEM were utilized in order to confirm their network structure changes, and AC voltage dielectric strength was measured. Also, UV-test and tracking test were carried out investigate the environment resistance characteristic. Therefore the variations of network structure were happened as a result of SEM test, and it was confirmed that simultaneous interpenetrating polymer network specimens were more excellent than single network structure specimens.

  • In this work, the effects of the addition of epoxy on the properties of PVC-sol sealants were investigated. PVC-sol was plasticized with dioctyl phthalates(DOP). Two kinds of epoxy resins having different epoxy equivalent weight (E.E.W.) were used. It was found that the properties of the PVC-sol sealants were significantly affected by the contents and types of the added epoxy resins. The viscosity behaviors of the epoxy-modified sealants, in the case of epoxy A addition, the viscosity was decreased with increasing the epoxy contents, but In the case of $CaCO_3$ addition, the viscosity was increased with increasing the $CaCO_3$ contents. The viscosity of epoxy modified sealants aged at $45^{\circ}C$ waterbath was decreased with increasing epoxy contents, since the epoxy acted on the sealants as a stabilizer. The thermal stability of the PVC-sol sealants was slightly improved by adding epoxy. The tensile strength and elongation of sealants modified with epoxy A(two functionalities of epoxy) were increased with increasing the epoxy contents up to a certain epoxy contents but was decreased with further increasing the epoxy contents. In the case of $CaCO_3$ addition, the tensile strength of sealants were decreased with increasing the $CaCO_3$ contents. In view of the electrical properties, such as tan ${\delta}$($0.1{\pm}0.04$) and ${\epsilon}_r$($0.5{\pm}0.04$), it was found that the epoxy modified sealants were as good as insulators.

  • This study was performed to evalute effects of fillers on the mixing characteristics and mechanical properties of polymer concrete. Two types of unsaturated polyester polymer and two types of epoxy resin were used as binder material, and the portland cement, a fly ash and heavy calcium carbonate were used as filler. Following conclusions were drawn from the research results. 1. Working life of polymer concrete was not affected by filler types, but affected significantly by polymer types and quantities of hardener and catalysts. 2. Without concerning polymer types, use of heavy calcuim carbonate as filler was the best in improving workability.3. The highest strength was achieved by heavy calcium carbonate in using unsaturated polyester resin and by fly ash in using epoxy resin type.4. Elastic modulus was in the range of 2.05X 10-5~2.6X 10-5gf/cm$^2$, which was approximatly 60% of that of cement concrete. Heavy calcium carbonate with unsaturated polyester resin and fly ash with epoxy resin showed relatively higher elastic modulus.

  • Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNTs) were modified with epoxy and aminosilane diethanolamine (DEA), and nanocomposites of poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) and the modified MWCNTs were prepared with the aim of improving the physical properties of biodegradable PBAT. The physical and the thermal properties of the PBAT/MWCNT nanocomposites were investigated using various techniques. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy measurements revealed that the MWCNTs were efficiently modified with DEA. Scanning electron micrographs of the nanocomposites indicated that the modified MWCNTs were dispersed homogeneously in PBAT. The thermal stability of the nanocomposite decreased with increase in the content of epoxy-MWCNT-DEA due to the poor thermal stabilities of epoxy and amino silane DEA. However, the surface hydrophobicity of the nanocomposite increased. The highest stress (170% of PBAT) was observed when the content of epoxy-MWCNT-DEA in the nanocomposite was 2 wt%.
