  • This study aimed to investigate the associations between clothing consumption values and the ambivalent clothing consuming behavior of young female adults. To explain the ambivalent consuming behavior prevailing in the contemporary fashion market, five dimensional consumption values proposed by Sheth(1991) were adopted as explanatory factors, and fashion leadership and spending were included as moderating factors. Data collecting using written survey instrument yielded one hundred and seventy two complete responses from female consumers aged between 20 and 39. Factor analysis on clothing consumption values resulted in five dimensional structures of consumption values for the sample: expressive, epistemic, functional, social, and fashionable values. Among these, expressive, functional, and social values significantly affected ambivalent consuming behavior. The effect of expressive value was strong regardless of fashion innovativeness, opinion-leadership, and monthly income of consumers, however, the effects of epistemic, functional, and social values were changed depending on the moderating factors.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between epistemic goals, epistemic considerations and complexity of reasoning of science high school students in an open inquiry and to explore the context on how open inquiry compares with the characteristics of an authentic scientific inquiry. Two teams were selected as focus groups and a case study was conducted. The findings are as follows: First, the contexts, such as 'sharing the value for the phenomenon understanding, reflection on the value of the research, task characteristics that require collaboration and consensus, and sufficient communication opportunities,' promote epistemic goals and considerations. On the other hand, contexts such as 'lack of opportunity for critical review of related literature and environmental constraints' lowered epistemic sides. Second, epistemic goals and considerations influenced the reasoning complexity. The goal of 'scientific sense making' led to reasoning that pose testable hypotheses based on students' own questions. The high justification considerations led to purposely focusing attention to the control designs and developing creative experimental know-how. The high audience considerations led to defending their findings through argumentation and suggesting future research. On the other hand, the goal of 'doing the lesson' and the low justification considerations led to reasoning that did not interpret the meaning of the data and did not control the limit of experiment. The low audience considerations led to reasoning that did not actively defend their findings and not suggest future research. The results of this study suggest that guidance should provide communication and critical review opportunities.

  • This study aims to examine the effects of consumption values on digital convergence products buying behavior. Especially, this study examines the nature of consumption values that differentiate incremental innovation products from radical innovation product. We first categorize the convergence products into incremental innovation products and radical innovation products based on the degree of innovation, and then study the differences of consumption values of each product group. The empirical research is conducted on the premise that the consumer's value can play an important role in the process of selecting convergence product types. Although some factors related to function value has been accounted much of, various consumer values have not been studied in the context of convergence product consumption behavior. This research assumes that consumer choice behavior is a function of multiple consumption values such as functional value, social value, emotional value, and epistemic value. The result shows that consumption values of digital convergence products are made up of 4 consumption values-emotional, epistemic, social and functional values. Also, these consumption values affect the purchase intention of consumers. Purchase intention of radical innovation convergence products is affected by emotional value, epistemic value, and functional values. Purchase intention of incremental innovation convergence products is affected only by functional value. Demographic variables such as sex, age and income don't have influence on purchase intention. Our findings suggest that choice behavior of digital convergence product is influenced by several consumption values. Managerially, our result emphasize that convergence products must satisfy the consumption values that consumers are seeking in order to be successful in the market. the theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed as well.

  • This paper aims to investigate epistemic principles and practical virtue items in Confucism about formation of social capital in a community. First, I have reviewed the basic perspective of Confucism utilizing holistic point of view, which is based on the theory of Yum-Yang, and human relationship in terms of role harmony, which is based on the theory of Si-Wi. I have then explored several items, some of which are Jung and Hwa as an internal value criterion, Ui and Ye as an external one. Analyzing other items such as In and Deok as directional items, Chung-Seo and Hyeol-ku-ji-do as epistemic items and Hyo and Ye as practical ones, I have found out that all of them, mentioned above functioned as factors of social capital in a community. Therefore, we emphasize that Confucian epistemic principles and practical virtue items can not only function as components of social capital in modern communities but have useful and practical implications for policy in modern community welfare.

  • The purpose of this study is to employ the theory of consumption value and consumers' innovative personality characteristics to explain the adoption of new personal electronics devices in Vietnamese market. This study adapts a quantitative survey-based approach to test hypotheses about relationship between consumption value, product specific innovativeness and new product adoption. The study uses a quantitative data set of 915 consumers who owned one mobile electronic device at least in Ho Chi Minh city, one of the biggest cities of Vietnam. The data was collected through personal interview and convenient sampling method. The conceptual model was tested using PLS structural equation model. The findings of this study suggest that both consumption value and product specific innovativeness influence the adoption of new electronic products. The results also reveal that product specific innovativeness mediates the relationship between consumption value and new product adoption. The study further identified that consumption value was taken as a second-order multidimensions construct with five components, namely functional value, epistemic value, economic value, social value and emotional value. As a result, the research suggests some implications to enhance marketers' capabilities to develop strategies for launching new hi-tech products in an emerging market as Vietnam.
