  • KSTAR in-vessel cryo-pump has been installed in the vacuum vessel top and bottom side with up-down symmetry for the better plasma density control in the D-shape H-mode. The cryogenic helium lines of the in-vessel cryo-pump are located at the vertical positions from the vacuum vessel torus center 2,000 mm. The inductive electrical potential has been optimized to reduce risk of electrical breakdown during plasma disruption. In-vessel cryo-pump consists of three parts of coaxial circular shape components; cryo-panel, thermal shield and particle shield. The cryo-panel is cooled down to below 4.5 K. The cryo-panel and thermal shields were made by Inconel 625 tube for higher mechanical strength. The thermal shields and their cooling tubes were annealed in air environment to improve the thermal radiation emissivity on the surface. Surface of cryo-panel was electro-polished to minimize the thermal radiation heat load. The in-vessel cryo-pump was pre-assembled on a test bed in 180 degree segment base. The leak test was carried out after the thermal shock between room temperature to $LN_2$ one before installing them into vacuum vessel. Two segments were welded together in the vacuum vessel and final leak test was performed after the thermal shock. Commissioning of the in-vessel cryo-pump was carried out using a temporary liquid helium supply system.

  • Hydraulic analysis of the natural gas transmission pipeline is to determine whether adequate flow can be sustained throughout the design life of pipeline under all expected flow conditions. Many factors have to be considered in the hydraulic design of long-distance pipelines, including the nature, volume, temperature and pressure of fluid to be transported, the length and elevation of pipeline and the environment of terrain traversed. This study reviewed the available gas operation data provided by pipeline construction project in the arctic area and discussed the gas properties such as viscosity and compressibility factor that influence gas flow through a pipeline. Pipeline inside diameter was calculated using several flow equations and pipeline wall thickness was calculated from Barlow's equation applying a safety factor and including the yield strength of the pipe material. The AGA flow equation was used to calculate the pressure drop due to friction, gas temperature and pipeline elevation along the pipeline. The hydraulic design in this study was compared with the report of Alaska Pipeline Project.

  • Many dental practitioners are bonding amalgam to tooth structure. The potential advantage of this procedure, suggested by in vitro test results, are reduced microleakage, which could lead to a reduced incidence of postoperative sensitivity ; increased strength of the prepared tooth ; and retention of restoration in less retentive preparations, with the potential fer conserving tooth structure. Although in vitro studies support this procedure, its efficacy has not been adequately confirmed in the clinical environment. The authors placed traditional Class I and Class II, bonded and unbonded amalgam restorations in 76 teeth. Fuji I Glass Ionomer luting cement was the bonding agent selected. Marginal adaptation were evaluated after two years. the authors found no significant difference in marginal adaptation between bonded and unbonded restorations.

  • This study aimed to develop reference materials (RMs) that are chemically stable and can simulate the flow characteristics of cement paste. To this end, the candidate components of RMs were selected considering the currently required properties of RMs. Limestone, slag, silica, and kaolin were selected as substitutes for cement, while glycerol and corn syrup were selected as matrix fluids. Moreover, distilled water was used for mixing. To select the combinations of materials that meet all the required properties of RMs, flow characteristics were first analyzed. The results revealed that silica and kaolin exhibited bilateral nonlinearity. When an analysis was conducted over time, slag exhibited chemical reactions, including strength development. Moreover, fungi were observed in all mixtures with corn syrup. On the other hand, the combination of limestone, glycerol, and water exhibited a performance that met all the required properties of RMs. Thus, limestone, glycerol, and water were selected as the components of the RMs. When the influence of each component of the RMs on flow characteristics was analyzed, it was found that limestone affects the yield value, while the ratio of water and glycerol affects the plastic viscosity. Based on this, it was possible to select the mixing ratios for the RMs that can simulate the flow characteristics of cement paste under each mixing ratio. This relationship was established as an equation, which was verified under various mixing ratios. Finally, when the flow characteristics were analyzed under various temperature conditions, cement paste and the RMs exhibited similar tendencies in terms of flow characteristics. This indicated that the combinations of the selected materials could be used as RMs that can simulate the flow characteristics of cement paste with constant quality under various mixing ratio conditions and construction environment conditions.

  • The thermal barrier coating (TBC) applied to a gas turbine can be damaged by repeated thermal fatigue during operation, so an evaluation of its durability is needed. Thermally grown oxide (TGO) is generated inside the TBC in a high-temperature environment. The growth of TGO is known to be the main cause of damage to the TBC. Therefore, the durability of TBC should be evaluated according to the growth of TGO. In this research, Kim et al.'s work on the growth of TGO with aging was used as a basis for finite element analysis. The relationship between stress and aging was derived from the finite element analysis results. The durability of the TBC with aging was evaluated through a comparison between the results of the finite element analysis and a bond strength test.

  • According to the IPCC climate change scenario (A1B scenario), the surface seawater temperature of the South Sea of Korea by 2100 may be $2-3.5^{\circ}C$ higher than at present, and seawater pH may decrease from 8.1 to 7.8, due to the increase in atmospheric $CO_2$, which is predicted to increase in concentration from 380 to 750 ppm. These changes may not only intensify the strength of typhoons/storm surges but also affect the function and structure the marine ecosystem. In order to assess the impact of climate change on the marine ecosystem in Korean waters, the project named the 'Assessment of the impact of climate change on marine ecosystem in the South Sea of Korea' has been supported by the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, from 2008. The goal of this project is to enhance our ability to adapt and prepare for the future environmental changes through the reliable predictions based on the knowledge obtained from projects like this. In this respect, this project is being conducted to investigate the effects of climate/marine environment changes (ocean warming and acidification), and to predict future changes of the structure and function of the ecosystem in the South Sea of Korea. This special issue contains 6 research articles, which are the highlights of the studies carried out through this project.

  • In this paper, in order to improve the error is utilized to location tracking the smart sensor detects a walking information user, RSSI is to provide an indoor position tracking system that is capable of correcting an error in terms weak. The acceleration sensor is able to detect the activity in the user walking and detects the number of step and the moving distance using the same. The Direction sensor is utilized as a digital compass, to detect the moving direction of the user. As a result of detecting the walking information using the sensor, it can be showed that this proposed indoor positioning system has a high degree of accuracy for the number of steps and the movement direction. Therefore, this paper shows that the proposed technique can correct the error of the location information to be problem in the conventional indoor location system which uses the only Wi-Fi APs by estimating the user's movement direction and distance using the sensors in smartphone without an additional equipment and cost.
