A Survey on the Perception of Companion Plants for Eco-Friendly Urban Agriculture among Urban Residents

  • Background and objective: This study was conducted as part of research to promote garden diversity and seek sustainable garden management plans, as well as to determine the trends in understanding and use of companion plants as an eco-friendly farming method and provide the results as the basic data for sustainable urban agriculture. Methods: To determine the trends in garden activities, eco-friendly pest control, and use of companion plants, a survey was conducted on 230 urban residents participating in the Urban Agriculture Expert course. 223 copies of the questionnaire were collected excluding missing values, and IBM SPSS statistics Ver. 25 Program was used for frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, and regression analysis. Results: Most of the respondents were female (71.3%), homemakers (26.5%), were in their 50s (29.1%), and had 2 members in the family (27.8%). 164 respondents (73.5%) had experience in gardening, most of them once a week (31.7%) and for self-consumption (55.5%). Both men and women raised crops for safe food production (32.3%), and they most preferred the city garden type (39.9%). For the preparation of nourishment for eco-friendly garden management, most respondents (60.1%) purchased fertilizers from the market. For the reason why eco-friendly pest control is necessary, all respondents except 4 of them (98.2%) responded that it is necessary 'because it affects my health as I eat it (73.5%)', indicating that they still had a high level of interest in health. Only 43.9% of the respondents said that they had heard of companion plants, 89.2% responded that companion plants were effective in eco-friendly management, and 87.4% showed the will to participate in gardening using companion plants in the future. Finally, the regression analysis confirmed that the awareness of companion plants and satisfaction with gardening activities are key variables that increase the intention to participate in gardening activities in the future. Conclusion: Since plants require special care depending on the period and various diseases and insect pests occur, there must be continuous research on companion plants as an eco-friendly farming method. Moreover, by actively using companion plants in urban gardens with the utility value in not only eco-friendly pest control but also in helping plant growth, urban agriculture is expected to be continuously activated and promoted by increasing satisfaction in gardening activities with aesthetic landscaping and pest control.

산지습지의 친환경복원이 저서성 대형무척추동물 분포에 미치는 영향 (Effect of eco-friendly restoration on the community characteristics of benthic macroinvertebrates in forested bog)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the influence of eco-friendly restoration in forested bog on the structure of benthic macroinvertebrate community. The benthic macroinvertebrates collected from the surveyed sites were composed of 1,071 individuals, 60 species, 40 families, 13 orders, 6 classes and 5 phyla. At the control and Site 3(small dam), the number of species and individuals were larger than that of other sites, and EPT group ratio was same as well. Considered by index, the dominance index (DI) was found the highest at the biotope area. The diversity index (H') and richness index (RI) were the highest at the control and Site 3. In addition, the ecological score of benthic macroinvertebrate (ESB) showed the highest at site 3, while the lowest at biotope area. The stability and recovery of benthic macrointebrates showed different according to restoration types at forested bog. After restoration project, the benthic macroinvertebrates were observed to get recovery at Site 3, and to have the highest communities stability at control and Site 3. At biotope areas (Site 4, Site 5 and Site 6) communities stability were the lowest, but showed different community stability values according to the presence of water. It is confirmed that the eco-friendly restoration projects indeed provided the better environment for the inhabitation of benthic macroinvertebrate community. The change of community index depending on the restoration projects suggests that the eco-friendly restoration can provide a more suitable environment for benthic macroinvertebrate ecosystem that prefers the stream environment.

A study on the improvement of the score system in the hazard analysis and critical control points prerequisite program for meat shops in Korea

  • This study is to develop a new scoring system for rating Hazard analysis and critical control points prerequisite evaluation items for meat shops to provide a more objective and accurate evaluation of food safety compliance. The importance of each item was measured by looking at the hazard severity level and the rate of non-compliance associated with it. It was found that the new scoring system is more stringent and gives a clearer picture of compliance with the most critical safety standards, and therefore is expected to have a positive effect on the hygiene and safety of livestock products.

벼 유기재배에서 석회보르도액을 이용한 벼 잎도열병 방제 효과 (Effect of Bordeaux Mixture on Control of Rice Leaf Blast)

  • 최근 벼 유기재배에서 식물병 방제를 위한 친환경농자재가 없는 것이 주요한 제한요인으로 제기되고 있다. 식물병 방제를 위해 보르도액은 효과적인 예방 농자재로 사용되어져 왔다. 본 연구에서는 석회보르도액의 벼 잎도열병 방제효과를 조사하였다. 온실검정결과 6-6식 석회보르도액 100배액을 발병초에 살포한 결과 70.8%의 방제효과를 나타냈다. 포장검정에서는 4-8식과 6-6식 석회보르도액을 살포한 결과 잎도열병에 대한 방제효과가 73.6%와 71%를 나타냈다. 각각 조제한 석회보르도액의 30배와 50배 처리농도에서는 약해가 발생하였으나, 200배액 살포농도에서는 약해가 나타나지 않았다. 따라서 유기재배 및 무농약 재배포장에서 벼 잎도열병 방제를 위한 효과적인 친환경농자재로서 석회보르도액이 활용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

관가정(觀稼亭)으로 본 조선시대 상류주택의 환경친화적 계획요소 분석 (A Study on the Environment-friendly Planning Elements on High-Class Houses Kuangajeong in Chosun Dynasty)

  • 본 연구는 전통주거공간 속에 반영된 환경친화적인 계획기법과 원칙을 파악하여 그 원리를 재정립하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해서 대표적 전통 주거공간인 경상북도 경주시 양동마을의 관가정을 대상으로, 문헌연구와 현장연구를 통해 주거공간에 표출되거나 내재된 환경친화성 원리 및 기법을 입지선정 및 공간구성, 자연에너지 활용, 자연재료 활용 등으로 구분하여 파악하고자 하였다. 본 연구를 통해 얻는 결과는 입지적 측면에서 남동향을 취하여 일사 및 일조의 환경조절측면을 고려하고 있었으며, 지형의 변형을 최소화하는 건물축조기법으로 조성한 것을 알 수 있었다. 환경보전적 측면에서는 대문간-안마당-안대청으로 바람의 통풍이 가능하도록 구조적으로 배치하였으며, 공간구성적 측면에서는 경관의 조망을 중시하여 담장의 조절을 통해 외부 경관을 끌어들이는 수법을 활용한 것을 알 수 있었다. 전통공간에 있어서 환경친화적 기법 및 조절원리는 오랜 기간 동안 경험에 의해 발전되었으며, 지역기후와 지역환경에 적합한 많은 전통적인 기법들로 개발되었다. 이러한 기법들을 추출하여 기술적으로 발전시키는 것은 지구환경과 에너지 문제를 해결하고 보다 쾌적한 인간의 생활환경을 창출하는데 중요한 의미를 지니고 있다 하겠다.

친환경농자재를 이용한 톱다리개미허리노린재의 친환경적 방제 (Environmentally-friendly control of Riptortus pedestris (Hemiptera: Alydidae) by environmental friendly agricultural materials)

  • Recently, the rate of cultivation of such as hairy vetch was increased as a way of reducing the current soil problem. However, the occurrence of insect pest such as bean bugs, Riptortus pedestris, were increased in the field of green manure crops and their injuries to hairy vetch were observed. While minimizing insecticide use for the environmental friendly agriculture, the control of the bean bug can be utilized environmental friendly agricultural materials (EFAMs) in the green manure crop fields. The control effects of some EFAMs and most of chemical insecticides to the bean bug were significantly high. As a result of direct spray of EFAM that contained sophora extract or neem extract, the control effects of six EFAMs were higher than 70% at 120 hours after treatments. Among them, three EFAMs were showed over 90% of control effects. On the other hand, most of chemical insecticides were showed 100% of control effect against the bean bug at 48 hours after treatment. As mortality effects of EFAMs were sloely observed until 120h after treatment, we must use selected EFAMs at the beginnibgs of occurrence and entrance in the field of green manure for effective control of bean bugs.

Suppression of Melanose Caused by Diaporthe citri on Citrus Leaves Pretreated with Bio-sulfur

  • Melanose, caused by Diaporthe citri, is one of severe diseases in citrus, a major economic resource in Jeju island. To reduce the usage amount of organic synthetic fungicide, bio-sulfur was tested as an alternative chemical to control citrus melanose in the present study. Direct antifungal activity of bio-sulfur against D. citri was determined through in vitro experiment using artificial nutrient media. Disease severity of melanose on bio-sulfur pretreated citrus leaves was lower than that on untreated ones. To illustrate the mechanism of disease suppression by bio-sulfur, infection structures were observed with a fluorescent microscope and a scanning electron microscope. In fluorescent microscopic observation, most conidia rarely germinated. In addition, hyphal growth on leaves pretreated with bio-sulfur was inhibited compared to that on untreated ones. In scanning electron microscope images of bio-sulfur pretreated leaves, surfaces of most conidia were shrunk while hyphae were morphologically changed and frequently branched. Such microscopic observations were also found for leaves pretreated with a commercial fungicide Dithianon. These results suggest that bio-sulfur may be used to control citrus melanose as an environment friendly alternative to organic synthetic fungicides

남부지역 시설채소 재배 농가의 친환경농자재 사용실태 (The Usage Status of Environment-friendly Materials for Vegetable Cultivated under Protected Houses in the Southern Part of Korea)

  • 본 연구에서는 시설재배되는 오이, (방울)토마토, 딸기, 가지, 고추, 상추, 깻잎, 파 등 8개 작물에 대해 2003년부터 2004년까지 영남과 호남지역을 대상으로 78개 친환경인증 재배농가에서의 친환경농자재 사용실태를 조사하였다. 친환경농자재는 작물의 종류에 따라 병해충예방을 위해 21-87가지, 비료효과를 위해 0-9가지, 생육촉진을 위해 2-41가지, 토양관리를 위해 10-37가지를 사용한다고 응답하였다. 조사에서 나타난 323 품목에 이르는 친환경농자재를 합리적으로 관리하기 위해서는 앞으로 구성물질과 유용성을 과학적으로 구명하려는 노력이 요구된다.

Soft-Remote-Control System based on EMG Signals for the Intelligent Sweet Home

  • This paper proposes a soft-remote-control (soft-remocon) system based on EMG signals for the Intelligent Sweet Home. The proposed system is applied to Intelligent Sweet Home which was developed to help the independence living of the elderly and physically handicapped individuals. The goal of proposed system is to control home-installed electronic devices such as TV, air-conditioner, curtain and lamp in Intelligent Sweet Home using EMG signals. Features such as VAR and DAMV having good separability performance are selected for pattern classification. FMMNN is adopted as a pattern classifier. Classification results are allowed to a developed remote control module and then corresponding infrared pulses can operate home-installed electronic devices. We concluded that EMG as an input interface for home-installed electronic devices in Intelligent Sweet Home.

실내조건에서 무당벌레(Harmonia axyridis : Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)의 각 발육단계에 친환경농자재가 미치는 영향 (Effects of Environment Friendly Agricultural Materials to Each Developmental Stages of Harmonia axyridis(Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) in the Laboratory)

  • 무당벌레(H. axyridis)는 세계적으로 진딧물의 포식자로 널리 알려지면서 농생태계내에서 진딧물을 방제하기 위한 방제인자로 많이 사용하고 있다. 또한 국내에서는 농약의 사용을 억제하는 정부정책과 소비자의 요구 등으로 인하여 친환경농업이 확대되면서 친환경농자재들이 많이 사용되고 있다. 따라서 친환경농자재의 사용은 무당벌레에 직간접적으로 영향을 미칠 수가 있다. 살충성친환경농자재(IEFAMs)의 경우 무당벌레의 각 발육단계에 대하여 대부분 안전한 경향을 나타내고 있다. 살균성친환경농자재(FEFAM)의 경우에도 FEFAM A를 제외한 다른 종류들은 무당벌레에 대하여 영향이 적다. 토양미생물친환경농자재(EFAMSM)인 EFAMSM C와 H는 무당벌레 알의 부화율을 떨어뜨릴 수가 있으며, EFAMSM A와 F는 1령 유충에 피해를 줄 수 있는 것으로 조사되었다. 식물성추출물친환경농자재(EFAMPE)는 EFAMPE A와 D는 무당벌레 알에 치명적인 독성을 보이고 있는 것을 알 수 있다. 그 이외의 다른 조사된 농자재들은 무당벌레에 비교적 독성이 약한 것으로 평가되었다.
