  • One of the most important issues for projecting future water resources and establishing climate change adaptation strategies is 'uncertainty'. In Korea, climate change research results were very heterogeneous even in a same basin, but there have been few climate change studies dealt with the uncertainty reduction. This is because emission scenarios, GCMs, downscaling, and rainfall-runoff models that were used in the previous studies were almost all different. In this research, fifty one GCM scenarios based A and B emission scenarios were downloaded and then compared with the observed values for a period from January 2001 to December 2008. The downloaded GCM scenarios in general simulated well the observed but did not simulated well the observed precipitation especially for the flood season in Korea. The accuracy of each GCM scenario was measured with the model efficiency, PDF-based, and Relative Entropy methodology. Among the selected GCM scenarios with three methodologies, the four common GCM scenarios(CGCM2.3.2(MRI-M, B1), MIROC3.2medress(NIES, B1), CGCM2.3.2(MRI-M, A2), CGCM2.3.2(MRI-M, A1B) were finally selected. Results of the four selected GCMs were heterogeneity and projected increases of precipitation for the Korean Peninsula by from 27.36% to 12.49%, respectively. It seems very risky to rely a water planning or a management policy on use of a single climate change scenario and from this research results. Therefore, the four selected GCM scenarios proposed quantitatively were considered firstly for the water supply in the dry season and the drought management strategy in the Korean Peninsula for the future.

  • Nonlinear energy operator(NEO) is usually used to estimate energy content of linear oscillator. We applied the modified nonlinear energy operator (MNEO) to detect R-peak of ECG and analyzed variation of R-R interval during sleep with nonlinear methods, piecewise correlation dimension and approximate entropy (ApEn) which estimate complexity of time series. ApEn applied to R-R interval reveals trends as sleep state changes.

  • We tested the capability of Pointwise Correlation Dimension(PD2), Approximate Entropy (ApEn) and LZ complexity, as alternative measures of a biological signal. For this purpose, we analyzed standard data and a healthy child's 24-hour heart rate variability. Our conclusion is as follows. First, PD2, ApEn and LZ complexity can be used for discerning chaotic attractor, white noise, and periodic signal. Second, these measures show different characteristics on day and night. Third, these measures can be used for detecting time-varying characteristics of biological signals.

  • The E.M.F. of the galvanic cell with fused salt was measured to determine the activities of zinc at 720-860 K over the entire composition range of liquid Zn-In and Zn-Sn alloys. The cell used was as follows: $$(-)W{\mid}Zn(pure){\mid}Zn^{2+}(KCl-LiCl){\mid}Zn(in\;Zn-In\;or\;Zn-Sn\;alloy){\mid}W(+)$$ The activities of zinc in the alloys showed positive deviation from Raoult's law over the entire composition range. The activity of cadmium and some thermodynamic functions such as Gibbs free energy, enthalpy and entropy were derived from the results by the thermodynamic relationship. The comparison of the results and the literature data was made. The liquid Zn-In and Zn-Sn alloys are found to be close tn the regular solution. The concentration fluctuations in long wavelength limit, $S_{cc}(o)$, in the liquid alloy were calculated from the experimental results.

  • We consider the set of points with historic behavior (which is also called the irregular set) for continuous flows and suspension flows. In this paper under the hypothesis that (Xt)t is a continuous flow on a d-dimensional Riemaniann closed manifold M (d ≥ 2) with gluing orbit property, we prove that the set of points with historic behavior in a compact and invariant subset ∆ of M is either empty or is a Baire residual subset on ∆. We also prove that the set of points with historic behavior of a suspension flows over a homeomorphism satisfyng the gluing orbit property is either empty or Baire residual and carries full topological entropy.

  • The biochemical properties of purified D-hydruxyisovalerate dehydrogenase from Fusarium sambucinum was elucidated. D-Hydroxyisovalerate dehydrogenase produced solely D-hydroxyisovalerate from 2-ketoisovalerate. The isoelectric point of the purified enzyme was 7.0. The enzyme was highly specific with 2-ketoisovalerate ($K_{m}=0.188$ mM, $V_{max}=8.814$ mmol/min mg) and 2-keto-3-methyl-n-valerate ($K_{m}=0.4$ mM, $V_{max}=1.851$ mmol/min mg) for the reductive reaction. This was also seen by comparing D-hydroxyisovalerate ($K_{m}=1.667$ mM, $V_{max}=0.407$ mmol/min mg) and D-hydroxy-3-methyl-n-valerate ($K_{m}=6.7$ mM, $V_{max}=0.648$ mmol/min mg) for the oxidative reaction. Thiol blocking reagents, such as iodoacetamide, N-ethylmaleimide and p-chloromecuribenzoate inhibited about 80% of enzyme activity at 0.02 mM, 50 mM and 50 mM, respectively. The enzyme activity was also inhibited by the addition of 0.1 mM of various metal ions, such as $Fe^{2+}$ (67%), $Cu^{2+}$ (88%), $Zn^{2+}$ t (76%) and $Mg^{2+}$ (9%). The enzyme was stable over three months in 50 mM potassium phosphate buffer (pH 5~7) at $-80^{\circ}C$. However the purified enzyme lost 30% of its activity in the same buffer after 24 h at $4^{\circ}C$. The studies about thermal inactivation of D-hydroxyisovalerate dehydrogenase exhibit 209.2 kJ/M of activation enthalpy and 0.35 kJ/mol K of activation entropy.

  • The Magnetization behaviour has been measured for amorphous $Fe_{80-x}Mn_xZr_{10}$ (x = 4,6,8,10) alloys. The Curie temperature decreased from 236 K to 195 K with increasing Mn concentration (x = 4 to x = 10). The magnetization measurements were conducted at temperatures above the Curie temperature in the paramagnetic region. In all samples, the magnetic properties showed superparamagnetic behavior above $T_c$ where the mean magnetic moment of the superparamagnetic spin clusters decreased with increasing temperature. A large magnetic entropy change, ${\Delta}S_M$, which is calculated from H vs M curves associated with the ferromagnetic-paramagnetic transitions in amorphous, has been observed. With Mn concentration increasing, ${\Delta}S_M$ decreases 1.04, 0.95, 0.87 J/kg K at 222, 210, 195 K (the Curie temperature), respectively.

  • The thermal stability, magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of $Gd_{55}Co_{35}M_{10}$ (M = Si, Zr and Nb) melts-pun ribbons were studied. The relatively high reduced glass transition temperature ($T_{x1}/T_m$ > 0.60) and low melting point ($T_m$) resulted in excellent glass forming ability (GFA). The Curie temperatures ($T_C$) of melt-spun amorphous ribbons $Gd_{55}Co_{35}M_{10}$ for M = Si, Zr and Nb were 166, 148 and 173 K, respectively. For a magnetic field change of 2 T, the values of maximum magnetic entropy change $(-{\Delta}S_M)^{max}$ for $Gd_{55}Co_{35}Si_{10}$, $Gd_{55}Co_{35}Zr_{10}$ and $Gd_{55}Co_{35}Nb_{10}$ were found to be 2.86, 4.28 and $4.05J\;kg^{-1}K^{-1}$, while the refrigeration capacity (RC) values were 154, 274 and $174J\;kg^{-1}$, respectively. The $RC_{FWHM}$ values of amorphous alloys $Gd_{55}Co_{35}M_{10}$ (M = Si, Zr and Nb) are comparable to or larger than that of $LaFe_{11.6}Si_{1.4}$ crystalline alloy. Large values of $(-{\Delta}S_M)^{max}$ and RC along with good thermal stability make $Gd_{55}Co_{35}M_{10}$ (M = Si, Zr and Nb) amorphous alloys be potential materials for magnetic cooling operating in a wide temperature range from 150 to 175 K, e.g., as part of a gas liquefaction process.

  • In modern war information system development makes battlefield materialize, and combat factors can maximize combat power exhibition as that apply synchronization. Information system is the core of combat power operation under NCW(Network centric Warfare). This paper proposed a new MOE(Measure of Effectiveness) that can assess the combat power synergistic effect of information system at the theater joint fire operation in NCW environment. This methodology applied the rule of Newton's second law $F=(m{\Delta}{\upsilon})/t{\Rightarrow}(M{\upsilon}I)/T$) Details factor in combat power evaluation is as following. (1) M : Network power; (2) v : Movement velocity; (3) I : Information superiority; (4) T : C2(command and control) time. We applied this methodology to the "JFOS-K(Joint Fire Operating System-Korea) in Joint Chief of Staff" in the real military affair section.

  • CABAC(Context-based Adaptive Binary Arithmetic Coding) among various entropy coding schemes which are used to improve compression efficiency in H.264/AVC has a high hardware complexity and the fast calculation is difficult because data dependancy exists in the bit-serial process. In this paper, the proposed architecture efficiently compose the renormalization process of binary arithmetic encoder which is an important part of CABAC used in H.264/AVC. At every clock cycle, the input symbol is encoded regardless of the iteration of the renormalization process for every input symbol. Also, the proposed architecture can deal with the bitsOutstanding up to 127 which is adopted to handle the carry generation problem and encode input symbol without stall. The proposed architecture with three-stage pipeline has been synthesized using the 0.18um Dongbu-Anam standard cell library and can be operated at 290MHz.
