We study the antecedents to tie formation on an (Facebook-like) enterprise social media platform implemented to support cross-boundary connections. Research has produced mixed findings regarding the role of social media in cultivating bridging vs. closed networks. We examine the tie formation patterns of 1,386 enterprise social media users over a two-year period. Specifically, we observe who became (or chose not s become) "friends" with whom at the dyadic level and relate the decisions to various mechanisms that affect one's network to expand, constrain, or bridge. Using logistic and OLS regressions, we find that users tend to form ties via reciprocity and transitivity (with friends of friends), both of which help expand one's network. We also find strong networking tendency toward functional and hierarchical homophily (same business unit and same rank, respectively), which is likely to constrain one's network (closed network structure). We find that one's participation in various online interest groups is likely to open one's network (bridging network structure) while no evidence found for preferential attachment. Overall, we find that enterprise social media offers features, some of which are likely to foster bridging while others foster closed networks via different mechanisms.
Recently, as the number of smart-phone users has been rapidly increased, enterprise managers have a keen interest in business application of social media. Most previous studies have focused on perspective of the individual unit of analysis instead of enterprise level unit. The study is focused on the relationship between the enterprises' recognition and behavioral intention (and use) about social media application. The purpose of this study is to develop the model of small and medium enterprises' social media application, and to find the factors affecting their behavioral intention or use behavior. The moderating effects of four corporate characteristics on the relationship between the enterprises' recognition and behavioral intention are also examined. We surveyed 900 corporate staffs and received 203 responses. After questionnaires with unreliable responses had been excluded, 182 effective samples were used in the final analysis. The findings suggest that Performance Expectation, Social Influence, Facilitating Conditions significantly affect Behavioral Intention of social medea, and Behavioral Intention affects USE. Furthermore, some corporate characteristics have moderating effect on the relationship between recognition of social media and Behavioral Intention.

Knowledge management is considered an important factor for competitive advantage and sustainability for firms. As many knowledge management systems failed to achieve the desired results, enterprise social media (ESM) has received considerable attention as an alternative solution for knowledge sharing within a firm. This paper attempts to investigate the influence of various aspects of ESM on knowledge sharing. While previous literature mainly focused on structural aspects of ESM, this study focuses on social psychological aspects, such as social connectedness, social awareness, and social presence, along with reputational aspects (such as self-presentation). Further, in order to clarify knowledge sharing behavior, this study classifies knowledge sharing behavior into two categories, knowledge contribution and knowledge acquisition. The data used in this study was collected from 179 individuals who have experience in their own ESM. The results show that both social connectedness and self-presentation positively influence the two types of knowledge sharing behavior, i.e., acquisition and contribution. Meanwhile, social awareness turns out to be a significant determinant of knowledge contribution only. Contrary to our expectations, however, social presence does not significantly influence knowledge sharing behavior.

To benefit from the application of social media, SMEs must implement the right strategy. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the use of social media in SMEs. Furthermore, alignment between social media functionalities and strategies and their effect on SME's performance are investigated. A case study is conducted in Gymi, a garment SMEs in East Java, Indonesia. The data collection includes interviews with the owner of SMEs, observations, and document analysis. Data analysis is performed by pattern matching, which matches the patterns from the literature with data from the case study. The results of this study show that cost-effectiveness, interactivity, and compatibility are factors that influence the use of social media in Gymi. The social media used by Gymi are Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, and LINE. However, the main social media used to support Gymi's functions is Instagram. Gymi has a relatively good social media strategy as it has defined a specific goal, target audience, and channel selection for social media (Instagram). It also has specific resources and policies to handle social media. Gymi monitors and evaluates their social media content activities. These strategies are aligned with the Instagram feature used to support Gymi's function, particularly marketing, sales, customer service, and to some extent, internal operation. The alignment contributes to Gymi's performance measured by the increase in reputation (number of Instagram followers) and sales.

The implementation of physical or social distancing during the Covid-19 pandemic has an implication on the shifting of conventional to online business activities. This study aims to explore how financial support, perceived benefits, external pressure determine social media marketing as well as understanding the role of internet and e-business technology (IEBT) that occurs in this relationship. This study adopted a quantitative study with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM)-based variance Partial Least Square (PLS), which aims to enhance understanding of the relationship between variables. The surveyed population of this study came from 123 small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) owners in East Java of Indonesia, using an online survey and selected with the convenience random sampling method. The findings of this study indicated that the perceived benefits and external pressure have a positive effect on the adoption of IEBT. However, financial support failed in explaining SMEs' adoption of IEBT. This study confirmed that the adoption of IEBT has successfully mediated the influence of financial support, perceived benefits, and external pressure on social media marketing. Despite the samples solely collected from East Java, this study is the first step in research related to the social media marketing in SMEs in Indonesia.

With the advancement in the area of cloud storage services as well as a tremendous growth of social networking sites, permission for one web service to act on the behalf of another has become increasingly vital as social Internet services such as blogs, photo sharing, and social networks. With this increased cross-site media sharing, there is a upscale of security implications and hence the need to formulate security protocols and considerations. Recently, OAuth, a new protocol for establishing identity management standards across services, is provided as an alternative way to share the user names and passwords, and expose personal information to attacks against on-line data and identities. Moreover, OwnCloud provides an enterprise file synchronizing and sharing that is hosted on user's data center, on user's servers, using user's storage. We propose a secure Social Networking Site (SSN) access based on OAuth implementation by combining two novel concepts of OAuth and OwnCloud. Security analysis and performance evaluation are given to validate the proposed scheme.
