  • Recently, interest in and demand for sensors that recognize physical activity and their products are increasing. In particular, the development of wearable materials that are flexible, stretchable, and able to detect the user's biological signals is drawing attention. In this study, an experiment was conducted to improve the dip-coating efficiency of a single-walled carbon nanotube dispersion solution after fine holes were made in a hydrophobic material with a micro needle. In this study, dip-coating was performed with a material that was not penetrated, and comparative analysis was performed. The electrical conductivity of the sensor was measured when the sensor was stretched using a strain universal testing machine (Dacell Co. Ltd., Seoul, Korea) and a multimeter (Keysight Technologies, Santa Rosa, CA, USA) was used to measure resistance. It was found that the electrical conductivity of a sensor that was subjected to needling was at least 16 times better than that of a sensor that was not. In addition, the gauge factor was excellent, relative to the initial resistance of the sensor, so good performance as a sensor could be confirmed. Here, the dip-coating efficiency of hydrophobic materials, which have superior physical properties to hydrophilic materials but are not suitable due to their high surface tension, can be adopted to more effectively detect body movements and manufacture sensors with excellent durability and usability.

  • When developing weapons systems, it is important to implement the functions and performance of equipment suitable for development purposes, but it is very important to ensure that the equipment is capable of operating without any vacuum with reliability after development. Therefore, various activities are carried out to enhance reliability of equipment. Reliability is enhanced by using high-specification parts in development, reliability verification through analysis, and testing using development prototypes to reinforce and improve the parts that are lacking in equipment. However, recently, development schedules are shortened due to rapidly changing external conditions and technologies, and there are cases where sufficient reliability growth activities were not carried out due to problems such as cost. Examples are projects that perform reliability activities only in analytical methods (reliability, FMECA). In this paper, analyzing and testing methods for analysis and testing were carried out on the same equipment through FMECA and super-accelerated life test, the contents of reliability growth activity were derived, the results of design change/review were accordingly compared, the differences between the two methods were analyzed, and measures were proposed to strengthen reliable growth activities. It was concluded that reliable growth activities through analysis from the beginning of development and reliable growth activities through testing should be carried out at the completion of initial prototype production.

  • Hydrocarbons containing carbon double bonds are generally called olefins and it is extensively used in petro-chemical industry as essential base material. Especially, olefins are essential in polymer synthesis and thus the effective separation and purification of olefins from gas mixture are very important and it gives significant positive effect on the future industrial development. In this study, we fabricated polymeric composite membrane based on poly(1-trimethylsilyl-1-propyne) (PTMSP) for propylene/nitrogen separation and enhancement of its separation performance by grafting amphiphilic copolymer. Furthermore, to accelerate facilitated transport for propylene molecules, Ag salt ($AgBF_4$) and ionic liquid ($EMIM-BF_4$) was incorporated to polymer composite membranes. The neat PTMSP membrane exhibited extremely high gas permeance and low gas selectivity due to its high free volume. To address this issue, PTMSP was grafted with poly(oxyethylene glycol methacrylate) (POEM) and poly(ethylene glycol) behenyl ether methacrylate (PEGBEM). Additionally, the additives such as $AgBF_4$ and $EMIM-BF_4$ further increased the propylene permeance, resulting in increment of propylene/nitrogen selectivity.

  • Purpose: Underground utility tunnel is facility that is jointly house infrastructure such as electricity, water and gas in city, causing condensation problems due to lack of airflow. This paper aims to prevent electricity leakage fires caused by condensation by detecting whether the control panel door in the underground utility tunnel is open using a deep learning model. Method: YOLO, a deep learning object recognition model, is trained to recognize the opening and closing of the control panel door using video data taken by a robot patrolling the underground utility tunnel. To improve the recognition rate, image augmentation is used. Result: Among the image enhancement techniques, we compared the performance of the YOLO model trained using mosaic with that of the YOLO model without mosaic, and found that the mosaic technique performed better. The mAP for all classes were 0.994, which is high evaluation result. Conclusion: It was able to detect the control panel even when there were lights off or other objects in the underground cavity. This allows you to effectively manage the underground utility tunnel and prevent disasters.

  • There have been many researches on the 3D graphic accelerator for high speed by needs of CAD/CAM,3D modeling, virtual reality or medical image. In this paper, an SIMD processor architecture for 3D graphic accelerator is proposed in order to improve the processing time of the 3D graphics, and a parallel Phong shading algorithm is presented to estimate performance of the proposed architecture. The proposed SIMD processor architecture for 3D graphic accelerator consists of PCI local bus interface, 16 Processing Elements (PE's), and Park's multi-access memory system (NAMS) that has 17 memory modules. A serial algorithm for Phong shading is modified for the architecture and the main key is to divide a polygon into $4\times{4}$ squares. And, for processing a square, 4 PE's are regarded as a PE Grou logically. Since MAMS can support block access type with interval 1, it is possible that 4 PE Groups process a square at a time. In consequence, 16 pixels are processed simultaneously. The proposed SIMD processor architecture is simulated by CADENCE Verilog-XL that is a package for the hardware simulation. With the same simulated results as that of the serial algorithm, the speed enhancement by the parallel algorithm to the serial one is 5.68.

  • In this paper, we introduce a design method for a broadband planar quasi-Yagi antenna (QYA) for terrestrial digital television (DTV) reception. The coplanar strip line which feeds the driver dipole is connected to a microstrip line and is terminated by short circuit. By appending a wide strip-type rectangular director at a location close to the driver dipole, broadband impedance matching and gain enhancement in a high frequency region are obtained. The gain characteristics in a low frequency region are improved by adding a reflector formed by a truncated ground plane. To reduce the antenna size, the strip-type dipole and reflector are modified to half bow-tie (V)-shaped elements. The effects of various parameters on the antenna characteristics are examined. An antenna, as a design example for the proposed antenna, is designed for the operation in the frequency band of 470-806 MHz for terrestrial DTV. The optimized antenna is fabricated on an FR4 substrate and the experimental results show that the antenna has a good performance such as a frequency band of 450-848 MHz for a VSWR < 2, gain > 4.1 dBi, and front-to-back ratio > 10.4 dB.

  • Ground penetrating radar (GPR) is an effective tool for detecting shallow subsurface targets. In many GPR applications, these targets are veiled by the strong waves reflected from the ground surface, so that we need to apply a signal processing technique to separate the target signal from such strong signals. A pulse-compression technique is used in this research to compress the signal width so that it can be separated out from the strong contaminated clutter signals. This work introduces a filter algorithm to carry out pulse compression for GPR data, using a Wiener filtering technique. The filter is applied to synthetic and field GPR data acquired over a buried pipe. The discrimination method uses both the reflected signal from the target and the strong ground surface reflection as a reference signal for pulse compression. For a pulse-compression filter, reference signal selection is an important issue, because as the signal width is compressed the noise level will blow up, especially if the signal-to-noise ratio of the reference signal is low. Analysis of the results obtained from simulated and field GPR data indicates a significant improvement in the GPR image, good discrimination between the target reflection and the ground surface reflection, and better performance with reliable separation between them. However, at the same time the noise level slightly increases in field data, due to the wide bandwidth of the reference signal, which includes the higher-frequency components of noise. Using the ground-surface reflection as a reference signal we found that the pulse width could be compressed and the subsurface target reflection could be enhanced.

  • An information retrieval system has to retrieve all and only documents which are relevant to a user query, even if index terms and query terms are not matched exactly. However, term mismatches between index terms and qucry terms have been a serious obstacle to the enhancement of retrieval performance. In this paper, we discuss automatic term normalization between words in text corpora and their application to a Korean information retrieval system. We perform two types of term normalizations to alleviate semantic term mismatches: equivalence class and co-occurrence cluster. First, transliterations, spelling errors, and synonyms are normalized into equivalence classes bv using contextual similarity. Second, context-based terms are normalized by using a combination of mutual information and word context to establish word similarities. Next, unsupervised clustering is done by using K-means algorithm and co-occurrence clusters are identified. In this paper, these normalized term products are used in the query expansion to alleviate semantic tem1 mismatches. In other words, we utilize two kinds of tcrm normalizations, equivalence class and co-occurrence cluster, to expand user's queries with new tcrms, in an attempt to make user's queries more comprehensive (adding transliterations) or more specific (adding spc'Cializationsl. For query expansion, we employ two complementary methods: term suggestion and term relevance feedback. The experimental results show that our proposed system can alleviatl' semantic term mismatches and can also provide the appropriate similarity measurements. As a result, we know that our system can improve the rctrieval efficiency of the information retrieval system.

  • Wireless sensor networks are closely related with the geometric environment in which they are deployed. We consider the probable case when a routing protocol runs on an environment with many complex obstacles like downtown surroundings. In addition, there are no unrealistic assumptions in order to increase practicality of the protocol. Our goal is to find a routing protocol for maximizing network lifetime by using only connectivity information in the complex sensor network environment. We propose a topology-based routing algorithm that accomplishes good performance in terms of network lifetime and routing complexity as measures. Our routing algorithm makes routing decision based on a weighted graph as topological abstraction of the complex network. The graph conduces to lifetime enhancement by giving alternative paths, distributing the skewed burden. An energy estimation method is used so as to maintain routing information without any additional cost. We show how our approach can be used to maximize network lifetime and by extensive simulation we prove that out approach gives good results in terms of both measures-network lifetime and routing complexity.

  • This paper investigates the determinants of port service quality from a resources-based approach. The research model is derived from the relevant literature in port management, service quality, and resource-based theory. It is hypothesized that tangible and intangible resources contribute to port service quality, which in turn leads to the enhancement of reputation and loyalty to ports. To test this, a questionnaire survey is undertaken on three major ports in Korea: Busan, Incheon, and Gwangyang; the collected data are then analyzed using partial least squares. It is suggested that both tangible resources and intangible resources have a positive influence on general service quality and that general service quality has a positive influence on customer satisfaction, thus improving port reputation and loyalty. The contribution to the literature is that resource-based theory is applied to a port service quality model and the model is verified. In addition, an augmented model is adopted to examine the effect of individual resources on service quality. It is also possible for port managers to use the constructs to monitor their resources and develop more specific strategies to gain reputation and loyalty from customers.
