  • Nowadays in Korea the subject of English education has been rising as one of the essential matters which need to be emphasized, reorganized, and thus refined. From the history of about one century to the current, English education may be compared to an adolescent who should be paid much more attention to grow as an independent adult. Although we recognize that there was much improvement in the past age of English education, a lot of assignments to solve await us. This study aims to suggest a recipe for optimal learning in English classes by linking theory with practice: First, the nation-wide academic associations of English teaching should act more energetically and cooperatively than ever. They need further specialization, dynamic participation, and systematic organization. At the same time the academic journals of their own should be publicized broadly, internationally as well as nationally. Second, there should be close contact and discussion between professors and secondary-school teachers. To achieve better learning in English classes, an effective cycle of equilibrium ought to be maintained by combining theory with practice. For example, language institute in universities/colleges can serve instructional programs such as lectures, colloquiums, and intensive courses for conversation. Third, native speakers of English should be positively utilized. Teachers had better keep close contact with native speakers as frequently as possible if they want to become fluent or at least acceptable speakers in English. Teachers may also use native speakers as aides in their classes.

  • The English Conversation class as a required course in S university is designed as blended learning to reinforce English education. To identify the influence of this blended learning on its students' achievement, the research about what variables are related with it was conducted. Data analysis indicates that gender, major, military service, overseas stay, face-to-face attendance, quiz, and online attendance have an effect on the student achievement. However, the students' style of online learning--study place, study time, and study frequency--doesn't have any relationship with their achievement. Their satisfaction with the online study was questioned in the three areas such as instructor, contents, and system, among which only the 'system' area has an influence on their achievement.

  • In this paper, we present an Example-based Dialogue System for English conversation tutoring. It aims to provide intelligent one-to-one English conversation tutoring instead of old fashioned language education with static multimedia materials. This system can understand poor expressions of students and it enables green hands to engage in a dialogue in spite of their poor linguistic ability, which gives students interesting motivation to learn a foreign language. And this system also has educational functionalities to improve the linguistic ability. To achieve these goals, we have developed a statistical natural language understanding module for understanding poor expressions and an example-based dialogue manager with high domain scalability and several effective tutoring methods.

  • The present design, which is the result of English Zone Project for 'I' Girls' High School in Yeonsu dong, Incheon, purposed to produce atmosphere like a cafe so that students can attempt more comfortable and diverse learning methods, breaking away from the structure and atmosphere of traditional language labs while providing functions such as experiential learning, teaching learning and native speaker conversation. In addition, it applied colors close to primary colors so that students throw away their fixed idea of language lab as a special class and access it easily at any time. Moreover, it was designed for the maximum changeability using foldable and portable furniture so that various types of group study can be performed. Ultimately the design project is expected to suggest methods of experiential learning distinguished from existing knowledge delivering education as it provides teaching learning methods beyond simple interior design.

  • Past studies conducted on the students' verbal participation both in and out of class have explored and identified variables affecting the process of learning to speak English. However, little is known about the causes and effects of these variables. A survey form developed from a previous study was administered to 468 university students taking English conversation classes from native speakers of English. To better understand the causes and effects of speaking barriers, path analysis was administered as the main tool of investigation. The results of the study indicate that familiarities toward NS (Native Speaker) teachers, learner faithfulness, che-myon, NS teachers' classroom management skills, and NS teacher's trustworthiness account for 50.72% of speaking grades. These factors are causally related to learner attitudes. However, with regard to speaking grades, all of the above factors except che-myon are also causally related with each other. Therefore, it was concluded that learner attitudes can be improved by minimizing che-myon, however, che-myon itself cannot be a predictor of speaking grades. To validate the findings of the study, related research work is discussed and implications are provided.

  • These days, interest and demand on smart learning has rapidly increased. Video English and mobile system based English speaking service have become popular. This study gave prototype of application to give and take voice message with world people and to give new concept of voice pen-pal beyond exchange of text messages. In modern society having rapidly increasing demand on smart learning, you can study foreign language by smart phone and communicate with foreigners by voice anytime and anywhere. The app allows global exchange to learn conversation. Recruitment of initial users and profit model have problems. We shall develop to improve problems and to solve difficulty.

  • While use of computers to teach English in a conventional educational environment promotes motivation and effective learning in students, the method generates problems such as provision of learning materials without consideration of teaching methods and evaluation without consideration of individual differences in students. To solve these problems and produce a superior system, we propose knowledge representation of expert module for an Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS).

  • Recently, research and development using various Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies are being conducted in the field of education. Among the AI in Education (AIEd), conversational agents are not limited by time and space, and can learn more effectively by combining them with various AI technologies such as voice recognition and translation. This paper conducted a trend analysis on platforms that have a large number of users and used conversational agents for English learning among commercialized application. Currently commercialized educational platforms using conversational agent through trend analysis has several limitations and problems. To analyze specific problems and limitations, a comparative experiment was conducted with the latest pre-trained large-capacity dialogue model. Sensibleness and Specificity Average (SSA) human evaluation was conducted to evaluate conversational human-likeness. Based on the experiment, this paper propose the need for trained with large-capacity parameters dialogue models, educational data, and information retrieval functions for effective English conversation learning.

  • This study is to develop the web-based English learning courseware and improve the motivational attributes, with systematic methods called the ARCS model of Keller. There are four categories to the ARCS motivation model : Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction. Applying these four components to web-based courseware strategically will enable learners to be taught English conversation more effectively and more systematically. In order to implement this study, the main web pages are made of ASP(Active Server Page). Personal Web Server is used as the web sever and Authorware is employed as a courseware authoring tool.

  • In order to realize foreign language education, various existing educational media have been provided, but there are disadvantages in that the cost of the parish and the media program is high and the real-time responsiveness is poor. In this paper, we propose an artificial intelligence English conversation system based on VR and speech recognition. We used Google CardBoard VR and Google Speech API to build the system and developed artificial intelligence algorithms for providing virtual reality environment and talking. In the proposed speech recognition server system, the sentences spoken by the user can be divided into word units and compared with the data words stored in the database to provide the highest probability. Users can communicate with and respond to people in virtual reality. The function provided by the conversation is independent of the contextual conversations and themes, and the conversations with the AI assistant are implemented in real time so that the user system can be checked in real time. It is expected to contribute to the expansion of virtual education contents service related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution through the system combining the virtual reality and the voice recognition function proposed in this paper.
