Identification of target subjects and their constraints for automated MEP routing in an AEC project

  • Since Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing(MEP) routing is a repetitive and experience-centered process that requires considerable time and human resources, if automated, design errors can be prevented and the previously required time and human resources can be reduced. Although research on automatic routing has been conducted in many industries, the MEP routing in AEC projects has yet to be identified due to the complexity of system configuration, distributed expertise, and various constraints. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the target subjects for MEP routing automation and the constraints of each subject. The MEP design checklist provided by a CM company and existing literature review were conducted, and target subjects and constraints were identified through process observation and in-depth expert interviews for five days by visiting a MEP design company. The target subjects were largely divided into six categories: air conditioning plumbing, air conditioning duct, restroom sanitary plumbing, heating plumbing, and diagram. The findings from interviews show that work reduction and error reduction has the greatest effect on air conditioning plumbing while the level of difficulty is the highest in air conditioning duct and restroom sanitary plumbing. Major constraints for each subject include preventing cold drafts on air conditioning pipes, deviation in ventilation volume in air conditioning ducts, routing order on restroom sanitary plumbing, and separation distance from the wall on heating plumbing. In this way, subjects and constraints identified in this study can be used for MEP automatic routing.

  • In the present research, a parametric study of aerodynamic characteristics for multi-element airfoils is performed. The major geometric parameters of interest are the gap distance between airfoils and relative deflection angle of slat/flap. The present results are mainly obtained by using inviscid flow calculation, and the aerodynamic characteristics are focused on the surface pressure distribution and the lifts. The results of the present research may be used as not only qualitative data but also quantitative data for small angle of attack flows, where the viscous effect does not play major role in terms of surface pressure distribution and lifts. A further research in this subject including viscous calculation and more geometric parameters is to be performed in the future.

역량 기반 전공 교과목의 성취도 평가 방안에 관한 연구: K대학 사례를 중심으로 (A Study on Outcome Assessment of Competency-based Major Subjects: Focusing on the case of K University)

  • 다양한 역량을 기를 수 있도록 설계한 역량 기반 전공 교과목이 늘어나고 있다. 여기서 역량이란 핵심역량 혹은 전공능력, 공학교육인증의 프로그램 학습성과, NCS의 능력단위 등을 포함한다. 교육부의 대학 기본역량 진단 평가에서는 모든 전공 교과목이 해당 학과의 전공능력을 제고할 수 있도록 편성 운영할 것을 요구하고 있으며, 공학교육인증을 운영하는 학과의 전공 교과목은 프로그램 학습성과와 연계되어야 한다. 또한, 능력중심사회가 강조되면서 대두된 NCS(National Competency Standards)를 교육내용으로 구성하여 전공 교과목을 능력단위에 기반하여 개발 운영하기도 한다. 다양한 형태의 역량 기반 전공 교과목은 관련된 역량이 향상될 수 있도록 교육하고, 수행의 과정과 결과를 모두 고려하여 학생들이 어느 정도의 성취 수준을 보이는지 확인할 수 있는 역량 평가 방식을 선정하여 교육성과를 측정해야 한다. 이에, 본 논문에서는 역량과 연계된 전공 교과목에서 교육성과를 측정하기 위해 사용되고 있는 역량평가 유형을 살펴보고, 교과목 단위에서 다양한 형태의 역량을 종합하여 측정하는 평가방법을 제안하고 이를 전공 교과목에 적용한 사례를 제시한다.

sEMG 분석을 이용한 높이 들어올리기 자세에서의 신체적 작업부하의 정량적 평가방법 개발 (Evaluation Method of Physical Workload in Overhead Lifting Posture Using Surface EMG Analysis)

  • For human factor engineering and wearable robot design, the quantitative assessment of physical workload is needed. Through measuring the surface EMG (sEMG) and analysis, the physical workload in overhead lifting posture is presented in quantitative manner. By normalizing sEMG activities with maximal voluntary contraction (MVC), the inter-subject variability is reduced. In all muscles, %MVC increased as the weight of lifting object increases. In anterior deltoid muscle, the %MVC was 3-4 times higher than the other muscles which imply that this muscle performs the major role in the overhead lifting posture. In fatigue analysis, %MVC and the mean frequency in muscle of anterior deltoid changed markedly when compared with other muscles. Through the suggested procedures and analysis, the physical workload for a specific posture can be represented in quantitative way but the clinical meaning for the value should be investigated further.

Comparative Study of Marine Engineering Curriculum Between MMU and PMMA

  • This paper compares the marine engineering courses of two maritime institutions: Mokpo National Maritime University of Korea in the East Asia region and Philippine Merchant Marine Academy in the Southeast Asia region. It shows examines educational marine engineering programs, along with the different divisions and courses at each college. It demonstrates a divergence in methodologies and course offerings to cultivate competitive graduates. The comparative assessment completed is intended to offer broader knowledge on how each institution tackles the requirements of the STCW, and to meet the present and future demands of the maritime industry. Different course offerings are compared along with the units and hours allocated to each subject, and the differences in marine engineering academic and training requirements to graduate. Students must satisfactorily earn 150 units to complete their choice of major. Statistical procedures were used in this assessment and analysis from Excel programs.

침대에 부착된 용량성 전극 배열을 이용한 수면 중의 심전도 측정 (ECG Measurement Method during Sleep with Array of Capacitive Electrodes Attached to Bed)

  • In order to measure ECG in daily life, a new ECG measurement method on bed was developed. The provided method does not require any direct conductive contact between the instrument and bare skin, so that it does not cause the uncomfortable feel of touch and the possible skin trouble which are typical shortcomings of the conventional conductive contact ECG measurement. The provided method utilized an array of high-input-impedance active electrodes fixed on the mattress and an indirect-skin-contact ground made of a large conductive textile sheet and laid on lower area of the mattress. A thin cotton bedcover covered the mattress, the electrodes, and the conductive textile and subjects lay on the mattress over the bedcover. ECG was obtained successfully. However its signal quality is lower and the motion artifact is larger than direct-contact measurement. Careful measurement setup was needed to reduce the motion artifact originated from variation in static electricity. From the ECG obtained by the provided method, R-peak could be discriminated easily and the information about the position and the posture of the subject could be obtained.

공학 계열의 법학 교육 효율화를 위한 인식 조사 (A Survey on the Perception for Legal Education Efficiency of Engineering Department)

  • 이 연구에서는 공학 계열의 법학 교육 효율화를 위한 인식조사를 시도하였다. 이는 최근 들어 우리 대학들에서, 특히 공학인증과 관련하여 공업법규 등의 교과목을 필수 이수 과목으로 지정, 이수케 하고 있는 현실을 반영하여, 공학계열 학생들에게 보다 효율적인 법학 교육의 방법을 탐색하기 위함이다. 연구 방법은 선행 연구들에서 추출하여 조작한 설문을 중심으로, C대학교 공과대학의 재학생 180명을 최초 표본으로 선정하여, 이 과정에서 불성실하게 응답한 19명의 자료를 제외한 161명의 자료를 최종 유효 표본으로 선정, 분석하여 연구 결과를 도출하였다. 구체적인 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 공학계열의 법학 교육의 경우 여성 보다는 남성이, 재수강 학생 보다는 처음 수강한 학생이, 법과사회 및 법학개론 등의 기초 법학 과목을 수강했던 경험이 있는 학생이, 전공 분야로의 취업을 희망하는 학생들의 각각 수업 집중도 및 만족도가 높은 것으로 조사되었다.

비전공자를 위한 파이썬 기초 프로그래밍 커리큘럼과 평가문제 개발분석 (Python Basic Programming Curriculum for Non-majors and Development Analysis of Evaluation Problems)

  • 파이썬 프로그래밍 언어를 강의하는 과목은, 일반 대학에서 모든 재학생이 필수로 이수하는 교양 과목으로 대부분 운영되고 있다. 이를 통해, 컴퓨팅 사고에 의한 기초 프로그래밍 과정을 학습한 비전공자 학생들이 다양한 전공 분야에서 SW를 적용할 수 있는 융합 역량을 강화하고 있다. 기존 연구결과에서는 컴퓨팅 사고 개념 이해와 코드 작성 역량에 대한 다양한 평가 방법들이 제시되었다. 그러나, 평가 문제 사례는 제시되지 않아, 실제 과목 운영 시 적용하는 데 어려움이 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 비전공자들을 위한 교양과목으로 적용할 수 있는 파이썬 기초 프로그래밍 커리큘럼을 ADDIE 모형에 따라 제안하였다. 그리고 제안된 상세 커리큘럼에 따른 파이썬 요소별 평가 문제 사례를 1차와 2차로 나누어 제안하였다. 마지막으로 본 평가 문제 사례를 적용한 강좌에서 산출된 비전공자 학생들의 평가 점수 결과를 바탕으로 제안한 평가 문제의 유효성을 분석하였다. 제안된 평가 문제 사례는 실시간 온라인 비대면 평가 방식으로 적용하여, 효과적으로 비전공자 학생들의 프로그래밍 역량을 평가할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

바이오디젤/디젤 혼합 연료유의 연소 특성 (The Combustion Characteristics of Biodiesel/Diesel Fuel Blends)

  • As the environmental pollution by the drastic increase of vehicles becomes one of the social major concerns, the method of reducing the harmful exhaust emission is being the subject of interest. Utilization of used frying oil as a raw material for biodiesel production is helpful not only for the stable supply of raw materials but also costing down the biodiesel price. This study was conducted the measurement the combustion and thermal characteristics with mixing ratio of biodiesel/diesel fuel. In this study, flash points and fire points were measured by using Tag Closed cup apparatus and Cleveland open cup apparatus. As the result, flash points, fire points and AIT increased with percentage of more contained biodiesel.

Highway bridge live loading assessment and load carrying capacity estimation using a health monitoring system

  • The Land Transport Authority of Singapore has a continuing program of highway bridge upgrading, to refurbish and strengthen bridges to allow for increasing vehicle traffic and increasing axle loads. One subject of this program has been a short span bridge taking a busy highway across a coastal inlet near a major port facility. Experiment-based structural assessments of the bridge were conducted before and after upgrading works including strengthening. Each assessment exercise comprised two separate components; a strain and acceleration monitoring exercise lasting approximately one month, and a full-scale dynamic test carried out in a single day. This paper reports the application of extreme value statistics to estimate bridge live loads using strain measurements.
