The purpose of this paper is to present the details of design procedure of a nonlinear regulator by Riemannian geometric approach and to applied it to the case of a double-effect evaporator. A nonlinear geometric model is proposed on a direct sum space of a state vector and a control vector as well as in the previous parers by the authors. The geometric model is derived by replacing the orthogonal straight coordinate axes of a linear system on the direct sum space with the curvilinear coordinate axes. The integral manifold of the geometric model becomes homeomorphic to that of fictitious linear system. For the geometric model a nonlinear regulator with a performance index is designed renewedly by the procedure of optimization. The construction method of the curvilinear coordinate axes on which the nonlinear system behaves as a linear system is discussed. To apply the above regulator theory to double-effect evaporators especially to the pilot plant at the University of Alberta, a suitable nonlinear model is determined by the plant dynamics. The optimal control law is derived through the calculation of the homeomorphism. As a result it is confirmed that the regulator is effective and superior to that of the conventional control.
This paper designs, in the teleoperation task, the world coordinate system by the functional analysis of each of the robot joint so that the human operator performs easily the task. Also, it constructs the heuristic rules of the equal motion line coordinates for the position and the posture control of the robot within the knowledge base so that the robot hand reaches-possibly in any position of the robot's work space. As shown in the result of the experiments. the coordinate reading is easy because the work station is displayed to the high resolution by using the superimposer of the motion analysing computer system. Also. the task burden of the human operator reduces and the error recovery time reduces because the coordinates of the object is obtained just by touch using the digitizer.
This article explains the theory of multiple mode/physical coordinate synthesis method in order to analyze the dynamic characteristics for an huge marine engine. The theory leads to make a simulation code. The natural frequencies obtained from the simulation code is compared to those from a commercial analysis software, ANSYS. The simulation code is well reviewed.
In this paper, a method for camera position estimation in gaster using elechoendoscopic image sequence is proposed. In order to obtain proper image sequences, the gaster in divided into three sections. It is presented that camera position modeling for 3D information extraction and image distortion due to the endoscopic lenses is corrected. The feature points are represented with respect to the reference coordinate system belpw 10 percents error rate. The faster distortion correction algorithm is proposed in this paper. This algorithm uses error table which is faster than coordinate transform method using n-th order polynomials.

To develope the new simulator for the analysis of fluid flow information, the influence of various convective difference schemes were evaluated. General curvilinear coordinate system with nonorthogonal grids was adopted for the successful analysis of various complex geometries. Computation results show that if we can not obtain full grid numbers within available computational environment, we need to use higher order finite difference schemes to keep the prediction accuracy.
In this paper we present a system that enables the user to interact with large display system even without touching the screen. With two infrared sensitive cameras mounted on the bottom left and bottom right of the display system pointing upwards, the user fingertip position on the selected region of interest of each camera view is found using vertical intensity profile of the background subtracted image. The position of the finger in two images of left and right camera is mapped to the display screen coordinate by using pre-determined matrices, which are calculated by interpolating samples of user finger position on the images taken by pointing finger over some known coordinate position of the display system. The screen is then manipulated according to the calculated position and depth of the fingertip with respect to the display system. Experimental results demonstrate an efficient, robust and stable human computer interaction.
This paper proposes a line laser thermography scanning (LLTS) system for multiple crack evaluation on a concrete structure, as the core technology for unmanned aerial vehicle-mounted crack inspection. The LLTS system consists of a line shape continuous-wave laser source, an infrared (IR) camera, a control computer and a scanning jig. The line laser generates thermal waves on a target concrete structure, and the IR camera simultaneously measures the corresponding thermal responses. By spatially scanning the LLTS system along a target concrete structure, multiple cracks even in a large scale concrete structure can be effectively visualized and evaluated. Since raw IR data obtained by scanning the LLTS system, however, includes timely- and spatially-varying IR images due to the limited field of view (FOV) of the LLTS system, a novel time-spatial-integrated (TSI) coordinate transform algorithm is developed for precise crack evaluation in a static condition. The proposed system has the following technical advantages: (1) the thermal wave propagation is effectively induced on a concrete structure with low thermal conductivity of approximately 0.8 W/m K; (2) the limited FOV issues can be solved by the TSI coordinate transform; and (3) multiple cracks are able to be visualized and evaluated by normalizing the responses based on phase mapping and spatial derivative processes. The proposed LLTS system is experimentally validated using a concrete specimen with various cracks. The experimental results reveal that the LLTS system successfully visualizes and evaluates multiple cracks without false alarms.
In this paper, a methodology of geometrical error identification and compensation for NC machine tool position is developed. We propose a reference artifact with measuring the geometry of coordinate system for compensating linear scale error of NC machine. The coordinate system of the NC machine could be compensated successfully with the information obtained by measuring the reference artifact and our compensation algorithm. Monte Carlo simulation is used to evaluate coordinate referencing ability and, the uncertainties of the machine tool position is estimated and observed through the compensation process by simulation.
To improve the road transportation safety, the road traffic data is monitored by applying an image detection system. The road traffic safety is analysed using image processing techniques. For more accurate measurement, the coordinate matching of real road data to image is one of the most essential parts of the image detection technique. The road image is skewed at the input screen, because the video camera is installed at the roadside. A fast and precise algorithm for the coordinate matching is developed to convert image coordinates into road coordinates.
Recently, the finite element absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF) was developed for the large deformation analysis of flexible bodies in multi-body dynamics. This formulation is based on the finite element procedures and the general continuum mechanics theory to represent the elastic forces. In this paper, a computation method of dynamic stress in flexible multi-body dynamics using absolute nodal coordinate formulation is proposed. Numerical examples, based on an Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, are shown to verify the efficiency of the proposed method. This method can be applied for predicting the fatigue life of a mechanical system. Moreover, this study demonstrates that structural and multi-body dynamic models can be unified in one numerical system.
