  • In the turbopump inducer of a liquid propellant rocket engine, cavitation is affected by acceleration that occurs during an actual launch sequence. Since cavitation instabilities such as rotating cavitations and cavitation surges are suppressed during launch, it is difficult to obtain data on the influence of acceleration on cavitation instabilities. Therefore, as a fundamental investigation, in the present study, a three-blade cyclic cascade is simulated numerically in order to investigate the influence of acceleration on time-averaged and unsteady characteristics of cavitation that arise in cascade. Several cases of acceleration in the axial direction of the cascade, including accelerations in the upstream and downstream directions, are considered. The numerical results reveal that cavity volume is suppressed in low cavitation number condition and cavitation performance increases as a result of high acceleration in the axial-downstream direction, also, the inverse tendency is observed in the axial-upstream acceleration. Then, the regions in which the individual cavitation instabilities occur shift slightly to a low-cavitation-number region as the acceleration increases downstream. In addition, in a downstream acceleration field, neither sub-synchronous rotating cavitation nor rotating-stall cavitation are observed. On the other hand, rotating-stall cavitation occurs in a relatively higher-cavitation-number region in an upstream acceleration field. Then, acceleration downstream is robust against cavitation instabilities, whereas cavitation instabilities easily occur in the case of acceleration upstream. Additionally, comparison with the Froude number under the actual launch conditions of a Japanese liquid propellant rocket reveals that the cavitation performance will not be affected by the acceleration under the current launch conditions.

  • The global environment is rapidly changing due to the Coronavirus outbreak, especially in areas that have been relatively neglected, such as border areas. In particular, In the post-COVID era, the border area between the two Koreas requires a new perception and conceptualization as a space for reconciliation, cooperation and coexistence. Through the status and outlook of post-COVID era, this paper analyzed the promoting directions of each situation, such as SWOT analysis, depending on the characteristics of changes such as domestic preference, changes into standards of new national competitiveness, changes into regional value chains, and the transition to digital economy in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Based on the previous analysis, this paper proposed realistic approaches such as the utilization of buffer zones, expansion of non-political cooperation to prepare resilience, and promotion of new growth engine industries. In addition, this paper suggested prepared strategies for analyzing the influence of positive and negative cases and responding to them by writing possible scenarios.

  • A Helmholtz resonator as a stabilization device to control high-frequency combustion instabilities in liquid rocket engine is adopted and its damping capacity is verified by linear acoustic analysis and atmospheric acoustic tests. To compare the results of acoustic attenuation effect in accordance with uni-resonator's geometry, quantitative analyses were made in the cases of various orifice diameters and lengths. Next, in the experiments to compare the results of acoustic attenuation effect by a difference in the number of resonators, damping capacity of harmful resonant frequency was improved by the increase of the number of resonators. On the other hand, attenuation efficiency of the frequency tended rather to lower due to over damping from the point of view of absorption coefficient. As the result, tuning the suitable geometry for the resonator to the resonant frequency is required for the control using the resonator. Also, the design of resonator's geometry and the choice of its number are important to put up the optimal efficiency in consideration of restriction of its volume.

  • The guideline of selecting the number of snapshot dataset, $N_s$ in proper orthogonal decomposition(POD) was presented via the analysis of Eigen values based on the singular value decomposition(SVD). In POD, snapshot datasets from the solutions of Euler or Navier-Stokes equations are utilized to SVD and a reduced order model(ROM) is constructed as the combination of Eigen vectors. The ROM is subsequently applied to reconstruct the flowfield data with new set of flow conditions, thereby enhancing the computational efficiency. The overall computational efficiency and accuracy of POD is dependent on the number of snapshot dataset; however, there is no reliable guideline of determining $N_s$. In order to resolve this problem, the order of maximum to minimum Eigen value ratio, O(R) from SVD was analyzed and presented for the decision of $N_s$; in case of steady flow, $N_s$ should be determined to make O(R) be $10^9$. For unsteady flow, $N_s$ should be increased to make O(R) be $10^{11\sim12}$. This strategy of selecting the snapshot dataset was applied to two dimensional NACA0012 airfoil and vortex flow problems including steady and unsteady cases and the numerical accuracies according to $N_s$ and O(R) were discussed.

  • LNGC suffers a great heat inflow during navigation and this heat inflow inevitably boils off the LNG. The boiled off gas(BOG) is normally consumed as a fuel for ship's engine. The boiled off LNG means a loss of cargo during transportation in the viewpoint of shipper. Therefore, a contract between shipper and ship operator is made for the limitation of BOR under 0.15 %/day based on laden voyage. This contract on BOR limit requires that ship's officer has a correct knowledge on BOR for his ship. nut, in most cases ship IS operated based on only officer's experiences. In this study, author presented a simple model to predict the BOG during navigation based on the existing precision heat exchange design technology about the heat distribution on the hull and heat inflow from outside through the hull. The BOG is calculated for ballast and laden voyage based on the actual weather conditions and verified by comparing with the measured BOG for the study ship. The study ship is a membrane type LNGC which is now servicing in Middle east route. Thus, the BOG prediction method which is presented in this study is expected to be used for an useful tool to manage the BOG in now servicing LNGC.

  • In the companion paper, the composition and structure of the MATDYMO (Multi-Agent for Traffic Simulation with Vehicle Dynamic Model) were proposed. MATDYMO consists of the road management system, the vehicle motion control system, the driver management system, and the integration control system. Among these systems, the road management system and the integration control system were discussed In the companion paper. In this paper, the vehicle motion control system and the driver management system are discussed. The driver management system constructs the driver agent capable of having different driving styles ranging from slow and careful driving to fast and aggressive driving through the yielding index and passing index. According to these indices, the agents pass or yield their lane for other vehicles; the driver management system constructs the vehicle agents capable of representing the physical vehicle itself. A vehicle agent shows its behavior according to its dynamic characteristics. The vehicle agent contains the nonlinear subcomponents of engine, torque converter, automatic transmission, and wheels. The simulation is conducted for an interrupted flow model and its results are verified by comparison with the results from a commercial software, TRANSYT-7F. The interrupted flow model simulation is implemented for three cases. The first case analyzes the agents' behaviors in the interrupted flow model and it confirms that the agent's behavior could characterize the diversity of human behavior and vehicle well through every rule and communication frameworks. The second case analyzes the traffic signals changed at different intervals and as the acceleration rate changed. The third case analyzes the effects of the traffic signals and traffic volume. The results of these analyses showed that the change of the traffic state was closely related with the vehicle acceleration rate, traffic volume, and the traffic signal interval between intersections. These simulations confirmed that MATDYMO can represent the real traffic condition of the interrupted flow model. At the current stage of development, MATDYMO shows great promise and has significant implications on future traffic state forecasting research.

  • In this study, two computational methodologies were compared to consider an effective conjugate heat transfer analysis technique for the cooled vane with thermal barrier coating. The first one is the physical modeling method of the TBC layer on the vane surface, which means solid volume of the TBC on the vane surface. The second one is the numerical modeling method of the TBC layer by putting the heat resistance interface condition on the surface between the fluid and solid domains, which means no physical layer on the vane surface. For those two methodologies, conjugate heat transfer analyses were conducted for the cooled vane with TBC layer having various thickness from 0.1 mm to 0.3 mm. Static pressure distributions for two cases show quite similar patterns in the overall region while the physical modeling shows quite a little difference around the throat area. Thermal analyses indicated that the metal temperature distributions are quite similar for both methods. The results show that the numerical modeling method can reduce the computational resources significantly and is quite suitable method to evaluate the overall performance of TBC even though it does not reflect the exact geometry and flow field characteristics on the vane surface.
