  • Fault diagnosis depends critically on the selection of sensors monitoring crucial process variables. Boolean network (BN) is composed of nodes and directed edges, where the node state is quantized to the Boolean values of True or False and is determined by the logical functions of the network parameters and the states of other nodes with edges directed to this node. Since BN can describe the fault propagation in a sensor network, it can be applied to propose sensor selection strategy for fault diagnosis. In this article, a sufficient condition for parameter identifiability of BN is first proposed, based on which the sufficient condition for fault identifiability of a sensor network is given. Then, the fault identifiability condition induces a sensor selection strategy for sensor selection. Finally, the theoretical result is applied to the fault diagnosis-oriented sensor selection for a nuclear heating reactor plant, and both the numerical computation and simulation results verify the feasibility of the newly built BN-based sensor selection strategy.

  • Urban air quality, including carbon-dioxide emissions, and national energy security are related issues affecting the rail industry and transportation sector as a whole. They are related by the fact that (in the United States) 97-98% of the energy for the transport sector is based on oil, and more than 60% is imported. A fuelcell locomotive combines the environmental advantages of a catenary-electric locomotive with the higher overall energy efficiency and lower infrastructure costs of a diesel-electric. Catenaryelectric locomotives, when viewed as only one component of a distributed machine that includes an electricity-generating plant and transmission lines, are the least energy-efficient locomotive type. The natural fuel for a fuelcell is hydrogen, which can be produced from many renewable energies and nuclear energy, and thus a hydrogen-fuelcell locomotive will not depend on imported oil for its energy supply. This paper proposes a base models of Hybrid fuel cell/IPT railway vehicle power system, the necessary of this research.

  • MVR evaporation is a method of pressurizing the evaporating steam to raise its temperature with an electric compressor instead of burning fuel and reusing the heat source through the embraced heat exchanger to minimize energy use. MVR desalination system with wind power uses varying wind power instead of stable electricity and can flexibly control the volume of fresh water production. The present study introduces the design, construction and operation of a MVR desalination system of 30ton/day capacity. Experimental results, MVR compression ratio is higher than 1.5, temperature difference of the main heat exchanger is $5{\sim}7^{\circ}C$. This value shows the same performance as the designed value.

  • This article addresses issues related to environmental pollution.Particular attention is paid to the prevention of environmental pollution by livestock waste, which prompted the creation of closed ecological and biotechnical systems as environmentally closed production structures that can fit into the equilibrium system of the environment with minimal damage to it. An energy-saving and environmental protection technology for the processing and disposal of livestock waste with a maximum coefficient of energy transfer to livestock products has been developed, which consists in a combined treatment of waste in three stages, by transferring waste from one technological module to another, which makes it possible to completely utilize mineral substances in waste. The focus is on vermicultivation, microalgae cultivation and anaerobic fermentation in a bioenergy plant. To increase the productivity of growing microalgae, the authors proposed a deep type cultivator with submerged movable light sources. The technological parameters of the bioenergy installation for waste treatment are determined. An energy-saving and environmental-friendly technology has been developed for processing The main contribution of the study is the development of energy-saving and environmental technology for the processing and disposal of livestock waste with a maximum coefficient of energy transfer to livestock products.

  • In this study, the effect of wake on the energy production of a downstream wind turbine was analyzed on the base of operation practices of wind farm in the coastal complex terrain which has 2 row array of wind turbines. And changes in the variation of wind speed and turbulence intensity was analyzed. In case wind turbines are spaced 4-rotor diameter-apart in the prevailing wind direction, reduction in energy production was confirmed due to the decrease of wind speed and the increase of turbulence intensity by wake. Especially a radical change of wind direction caused wind turbine a sudden stop and energy production significantly reduced. It is considered improvement of yaw brake can prevent the sudden stop and increase energy production.

  • Predictions of wind speed for six different near-shore sites were made using the NCAR (National Center for Atmospheric Research) wind data. The distances between the NCAR sites and prediction sites were varied between 40km and 150km. A well-known wind energy prediction program, WindPRO, was used. The prediction results were compared with the measured data from the AWS(Automated Weather Stations). Although the NCAR wind data were located far away from the AWS sites, the prediction errors were within 9% for all the cases. In terms of sector-wise wind energy distributions, the predictions were fairly close to the measurements, and the error in predicting main wind direction was less than $30^{\circ}$. This proves that the NCAR wind data are very useful in roughly estimating wind energy in offshore or near-shore sites where offshore wind farm might be constructed in Korea.

  • The wave energy absorption efficiency and the first-order and the time-mean second-order wave loads of a three-dimensional bottom-mounted oscillating water column (OWC) chamber structure are studied. The potential problem is solved by making use of a hybrid Green integral equation associated with the finite-waterdepth free-surface Green function outside a twin chamber and the Rankine Green function inside taking account of the fluctuating air pressure inside the chamber. Numerical results of the primary wave energy converting efficiency and the oscillating and steady wave loads of a three-dimensional bottom-mounted OWC pilot plant have been presented.

  • GASFLOW-MPI is a widely used scalable computational fluid dynamics numerical tool to simulate the fluid turbulence behavior, combustion dynamics, and other related thermal-hydraulic phenomena in nuclear power plant containment. An efficient scalable linear solver for the large-scale pressure equation is one of the key issues to ensure the computational efficiency of GASFLOW-MPI. Several advanced Krylov subspace methods and scalable preconditioning methods are compared and analyzed to improve the computational performance. With the help of the powerful computational capability, the large eddy simulation turbulent model is used to resolve more detailed turbulent behaviors. A backward-facing step flow is performed to study the free shear layer, the recirculation region, and the boundary layer, which is widespread in many scientific and engineering applications. Numerical results are compared with the experimental data in the literature and the direct numerical simulation results by GASFLOW-MPI. Both time-averaged velocity profile and turbulent intensity are well consistent with the experimental data and direct numerical simulation result. Furthermore, the frequency spectrum is presented and a -5/3 energy decay is observed for a wide range of frequencies, satisfying the turbulent energy spectrum theory. Parallel scaling tests are also implemented on the KIT/IKET cluster and a linear scaling is realized for GASFLOW-MPI.

  • The interest in renewable energy-based distributed power generation systems is increasing due to the recognitions of the breakthrough of existing centralized power generation, energy conversion, and environmental problems. In this study, the optimal capacity was selected by simulating a distributed power generation system based on PV and WT using lead acid batteries as the energy storage system. CHP was adopted as the existing power source, and the optimal capacity of the system was derived through MOGA according to the operating modes(full load/part load) of the existing power source. In addition, it was confirmed that the battery life differs when the battery charging method is changed at the same battery capacity. Therefore, for economical and stable power supply and demand, the capacity selection of the distributed generation system considering the battery charging method should be performed.
