This study tried to develop the theoretical backgrounds, explaining consumers energy consumption behavior and analyzed its effects. In other words, this study investigated the factors influencing the amount of electronic energy consumption. In this study, we used 678 questionnaires which were selected a quota sampling by living area who were above 20 years old and married. Summary of results of this study follows. First, attitude for energy saving was positively related with female, high school graduated large size of family members, elderly, and middle-class consumers. In addition, consumers' search for energy saving were appeared passively in young consumers under 30 years old, and the family with the highest household income. Consumers' purchasing energy-efficient products was presented in large size of family members, and young consumers. Second, consumers' environmental oriented behavior, action-directed behavior, healthseeking behavior were significantly related with energy saving behavior, and active information search for energy saving, but not with purchasing energy-efficient products and consuming behavior of electrical energy. Third, the quantity of electric energy consumption was affected by the size of family members, the living size of house related with high energy demand, the attitude for energy saving, and searching information for energy-saving.
Since 1970s, energy-saving design criteria of buildings has been improved through numerous revisions. The purpose of this research is to show how energy saving design criteria affects heating energy consumption of apartments using district heating. Heating energy consumption has been measured in 4 apartments located in Gyeonggi province, Korea from Nov. 1,2007 through Oct. 31, 2008. Collected data was regressed to linear correlations. Heating energy consumptions were calculated for past, present and future energy-saving design criteria, which are outdoor temperature, ventilation and insulation. The results show that present design criteria has reduced heating energy consumption by 15%, and the future criteria will reduce the energy consumption by 42% compared to the criteria before 2001.
With the architectural energy saving technique such as building insulation, airtightness etc., changing the indoor temperature and shortening the air conditioning time etc. are the good methods to practice energy saving in our lives. This study aims to seek a way to realize energy saving under investigation through a questionnaire survey about energy consumption condition and energy saving perception. 93% of the respondents recognized the need for energy saving, and 67% said more energy saving would possible in homes. Viable energy saving way was questioned by five steps method. More than 50% responded 'possible' or 'seems possible' at most of the items. Whereas less than 50% responded 'possible' or 'seems possible' at the items of 'lessening the cooling time' and 'lessening the shower time'. Ages of 50s who responded 'possible' or 'seems possible' was relatively less compared to 30s and 40s.
The recent environmental protection trend requires more strict energy saving, therefore every transportation system should reduce energy consumption to the minimum value. High-efficiency operation system, energy saving and CO2 emissions shall be addressed as important issue in railway system. These issues are the most essential factors of railway, compared to major public transportation system. Recently, saving energy in the electric railway system has been studied. For such new energy saving, the Energy storage system is considered for saving energy. Energy saving is possible by efficient use of regenerated energy. Regenerated energy is recycled amongst vehicles by mean of charge and discharge corresponding to powering and braking of electric vehicle operations. This energy saving contributes to cut CO2 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Recycling regenerated energy demonstrate significant effect on peak cut of consumption energy in railway substation. Absorption of excess energy avoids regeneration failure due to high traction voltage. This paper presents effects by applying the energy storage system to SeoulMetro Line 2.
This study investigated consumers' energy saving behavior and perceptions concerning the effectiveness of their energy saving behavior. A nation wide survey was conducted involving 2000 households in urban areas and the data from 1767 households were used for the analysis. excluding cases with incomplete responses. Descriptive analysis, factor analysis, and regression analysis were applied. The results were as follows. First, electricity saving behavior was classified into three categories: Thrift (reducing energy consumption), Purchase (buying energy saving appliances), and Control (checking the energy consumption). Second, consumers rated Thrift as the best way to save energy. Third, education, age, and household income were significantly related to energy saving behavior and perceptions on the effectiveness of energy saving behavior. Consumers using above average levels of electricity tended not to practice energy saving behavior and not to positively evaluate effectiveness of the energy saving behavior. Lastly, the implications for public policies to promote energy saving behavior are suggested.
This paper presents an advanced energy saving algorithm in building. It is important to aggregate a various demand side resource which is surely controllable at the peak power time to reduce the energy cost. Previous demand side algorithm appropriate for building is based on peak power. In this paper, we develop the new energy saving algorithm to reduce the quantity of power consumption. The simulation results show that the proposed tem is very effective.
This article outlines a case study of water and energy savings in a typical building through a modelling process and analysis of simultaneous water-energy saving measures. Wet cooling towers are one of the most important equipments in buildings with a considerable amount of water and energy consumption. A variety of methods are provided to reduce water and energy consumption in these facilities. In this paper, thorough the modeling of a typical building, water and energy consumption are measured. Then, After application of modern methods known to be effective in saving water and energy, including the ozone treatment for cooling towers and shade installation for windows, i.e. fins and overhangs, the amount of water and energy saving are compared with the base case using the Simergy model. The annual water consumption of the building, by more than 50% reduction, has been reached to 500 cubic meters from 1024 cubic meters. The annual electric energy consumption has been decreased from 405,178 kWh to 340,944 kWh, which is about 16%. After modeling, monthly peak of electrical energy consumption of 49,428 has dropped to 40,562 kWh. The reduction of 18% in the monthly peak can largely reduce the expenses of electricity consumption at peak.
Purpose: Recently energy consumption is rapidly increasing due to continuous development of social evolution in various field. In this situation, there is a lot of effort to reduce this energy consumption in many ways, especially in building energy. Preceding studies already started to analyze the housing area such as zero energy house and passive house by researching annual building energy consumption, but to apply the results of housing to office building is insufficient since it has different consumption tendency. Method: In this study, eQuest program was used for simulation and the base model is selected among standard office building in ASHRAE 90.1. Variables are divided into passive and active factors for comparison. Result: In passive factors, glazing system showed the highest energy saving rate by 21.3% with triple low-e glass and enhancing wall u-value showed the lowest energy saving rate by 3.6% with 0.15 m2/K. In active factors, VAV system showed 30.9% energy saving rate when compared to CAV system, and heat exchanger showed 10.2% energy saving rate. For regeneration energy part, photovoltaic panel generated 10.4% of base annual energy usage.
A large portion of the energy cost of a building is cooling and heating to maintain a comfortable indoor environment. Air conditioning is now one of the important parts in the building design, as increase in energy consumption and pollutant emission in energy conversion process. In this study, elements that affects the energy consumption of model building are identified and the perfomance analysis of the alternative a Low Energy Cooling Systems considering characteristics of model building and energy saving performance is analyzed. In this study, elements that affect the energy consumption of office building are identified and energy saving performance of the alternative air conditioning system is analyzed. As a result, applied to earn and suggest basic data for energy saving measures. In this study, EnergyPlus simulation program was used to evaluate the energy load when alternative Low Energy Cooling Systems are applied to the model building. The reliability of simulation program is verified by comparing actual energy load from operation data of building management office and predicted energy load using simulation program. For Low Energy Cooling System application which considers the purpose and characteristics of the building, reasonable and energy-saving air conditioning method obtained by analyzing energy consumption elements for each expected air conditioning methods is used to deduct result of this study.
Today, the world energy consumption in buildings occupies more than 30%. In our country, the energy consumption in buildings also occupies 25% of the entire national energy consumption. With the increasing demand of energy saving in architectural fields, there is a more interest in low-energy construction. For these low-energy housings, our country is planning to apply the energy-saving design standards at the level of passive houses in 2017. However, there is still a limitation in energy saving only with the standards on the performance of envelope in buildings. This means that unless a building is airtight even though it was well-insulated, cooling and heating energy consumption will increase due to the infiltration and leakage. Therefore, this study aims to make a comparative analysis of airtight performance by conducting a blower door test on the housings applied with passive designs, analyze the reasons why most houses fall short of the airtightness standards, and complement the airtightness problems in the inadequate parts of the buildings in order to save building energy.
