How Research in Sustainable Energy Supply Chain Distribution Is Evolving: Bibliometric Review

  • Purpose: As the need to transition into the distribution of cleaner energy has garnered corporate and scholarly interests, this study aims to track the research trends in sustainable energy supply chains for five years before 2021. Research methodology: This study was conducted by a bibliometric literature review and analysis to map the field's evolution between 2016 and 2020. Out of an initial title search result of 2,484 papers from the Scopus engine, filtering led to 180 documents obtained. The data was exported in excel format (CSV) to VOSviewer software to generate and analyze network visualization of sustainable energy supply chain trends. Results: The results revealed China's the highest publishing country, with 36 research papers. The Journal of Cleaner Production was the top publishing source, with 22 papers per year. These findings showed five clusters formed in the bibliographic coupling of countries. Circular Economy and Green Supply Chain Management represent the current hot topics. Research gaps identified in the field included limited cross-industry testing and modifying sustainable supply chain models. Conclusion: This paper contributes to the sustainability literature on supply chains by providing an overview of trends and research directions for scholars' and practitioners' consideration in future research.

  • The environment of supply chains is rapidly changed to global and eco-freindly work process. However, at current environment, it is not easy to grasp work flow and to analyze energy efficiency. Improving energy efficiency and visibility for goods flow can contribute to increases in customer attitudes and reductions in overall production costs Additionally, it can lead to increases in work efficiency and reductions in overall production costs. Until recently, efforts to improve energy performance focused on manufacturing industry. Those efforts have expanded to the supply chain. In this paper, we perform business process modeling about supply chain for visibility and sustainability - information and component flows - from assembly plants to logistics. This paper defines the work and information flows by modeling the underlying logical structures of the supply chain and the business processes that determine impact of visibility and sustainability. We model processes using the modeling methodology specified by UN/CEFACT. This methodology explains business process functionality and business transactions by UML diagram. The output of this paper would be useful in grasping work flow and capturing the used energy.

  • Supply chain including transportation expend the 21% of domestic energy consumption. It is necessary to diminish the excess energy usage at entire supply chain. This paper deals with the application of MFCA(Material Flow Cost Accounting) for SCM to save energy consumption. We construct the material center corresponding to each logistics function in order to apply the MFCA for GCM(Green Chain Management). We also construct the MFCA framework which consists of MFCA Database Management, MFCA Visualization, GCM Data Integration, GCM Data Tracking, and MFCA Data Predict & Assignment. We expect to help determining the range of logistics function to apply the MFCA for GCM.

  • Automotive manufacturing is a traditional manufacturing industry that consumes a lot of energy and emits a lot of pollutants, and needs to improve environmental performance through digital transformation of supply chains.In this study, 13 hypotheses were put forward based on supply chain digital transformation, supply chain dynamic capability and enterprise environmental performance. The results of the questionnaire survey on the managers and employees of automobile manufacturing enterprises in 7 regions of China show that the digital transformation of supply chain can help improve the environmental performance of automobile manufacturing enterprises under the influence of supply chain dynamic capability

The Relationship between the Preceding Factors of Supply Chain Resilience, Supply Chain Resilience, and Business Performance (공급사슬 회복탄력성 선행요인과 공급사슬 회복 탄력성, 기업 경영성과 간의 관계)

  • This study is to analyze the relationship between supply chain resilience antecedent factors, supply chain resilience and business performance. Supply chain integration, risk management activity, and visibility were selected as the preceding factors of supply chain resilience, and the effect of these factors on agility and robustness as supply chain resilience, and the effects of agility and robustness factors on corporate management performance are studied. To this end, a survey was conducted on Korean manufacturing companies, and a total of 124 questionnaires were used for the study. As a result of the testing of the research hypothesis, supply chain integration, risk management activity, and visibility have a positive (+) significant effect on agility and robustness. In addition, agility had a positive (+) effect on corporate management performance. But robustness had a positive (+) effect on corporate management performance, but not significant. In order for manufacturing companies to secure supply chain resilience through such research hypothesis testing, it is necessary to secure supply chain integration, risk management activity, and visibility capabilities. It was confirmed that agility and visibility capability can be linked to corporate management performance. In addition, the overall relationship structure between the preceding factors of supply chain resilience, supply chain resilience, and business performance was presented.

  • The aim of this study were to investigate the process of national R&D project planning by using the industry quantitative analysis(especially supply-chain enterprise ananlysis). In the selection process of funding project, the role and significance of the industry analysis can be identified as the effective guideline of using this methodology. Across the study, the following is noted : the factors of R&D effectiveness and R&D necessity are found reliable and valid. On the other hand, the emptiness of supply chain and the positive effect of foreign trade balance did not influence the selection of project. The information gained from this study will help us to define better expectations and industry analysis employing to the National R&D Project Planning.

  • Recently, ESG management has become a global trend, receiving increasing attention from stakeholders such as consumers, investors, and governments, as regulations related to ESG disclosure and supply chain due diligence have been strengthened since the United Nations Principles of Responsible Investment (UN PRI) was announced in 2006. ESG is an acronym for the environment (E), social (S), and governance (G) and is accepted as a key factor for the continuous survival and growth of a company. As a result, there are over 600 ESG management evaluation indicators operated domestically and internationally, and numerous global initiatives have emerged. Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy also announced "K-ESG Guidelines (December 2011)" and "K-ESG Guidelines for Supply Chain Response (December 22)" to help SMEs introduce ESG management and respond to supply chain due diligence. However, small-scale manufacturing companies with poor financial, human resources, and technological capabilities face significant challenges in introducing ESG management. Accordingly, this study aims to examine the current status of ESG management adoption in small-scale manufacturing companies with less than 150 people in Korea and propose activation plan ESG management based on the diagnostic requirements of the "Supply Chain Response K-ESG Guidelines."

Economic Feasibility Analysis of an Overseas Green Hydrogen Supply Chain (해외 그린수소 공급망 경제성 분석)

  • At the present time, interest in hydrogen is increasingly growing worldwide to tackle climate change. Korea also takes an action by announcing the first hydrogen economy implementation basic plan with the import targets of 22.9 million tons of hydrogen from oversea in 2050. To achieve this plan, it is very essential to establish an overseas hydrogen supply chain. In this paper, the study estimates the import price for hydrogen into basic scenario and comprehensive scenario, and also analyses economic feasibility considering price of the each technology.

Embodied Energy and $CO_2$ Emissions Evaluation for Freight Transport

  • This study aim at demonstrating the environmental performance of freight transport of the rail and road mode through an indicator of embodied energy and $CO_2$ emissions. Using the concept of LCA, the scope of evaluation includes energy production, supply chain activity and operation. The results of embodied energy and $CO_2$ emissions are normalized by means of traffic volume. The results shown that embodied $CO_2$ emissions road mode is 607.07 $gCO_2-eq./tkm$ and 284.67 $gCO_2-eq./tkm$ for road and rail mode, respectively. This number reveals that road mode is 2.1 times larger than rail mode. The results also indicate that the main contribution of $CO_2$ emission from road mode is in the operation stage, which accounts for 70%; however, it is the construction and supply chain stage that accounts for over 50% of the emission of rail mode.

  • This work uses data associated with business activity and outcome on the five main SOGO-SHOSYA and considers meaning of its outcome and logistics function in energy business field in recent 10 years. The contents of this work embody three chapters, which are an investigation on advanced research, an analysis of SOGO-SHOSYA business outcome, logistics function in its energy business field, Research method are used by statistical analysis and organizational structure analysis as well as case study. We will search for the reason that the energy business has worked well lately. There are actively securing interests of energy exploitation and longer-term investment to affiliated companies, building supply chain system with internal and external businesses. Especially, we will account for the logistics role of SOGO-SHOSYA that has newly understood the international logistics function in energy business field. SOGO-SHOSYA has coordinated organizationally from upstream to downstream in energy business, is showing its abilities in midstream related features that involve investor, organizer and analyst. SOGO-SHOSYA's building up logistics function will help supply chain in energy business for rising the competitiveness of price and quality, and support cost-reducing in activities of supply chain.
