  • In this paper, we propose a new video watermarking method exploiting the human visual system (HVS) to find effective locations. in the video frames which make the watermark robust and imperceptible simultaneously. In particular, we propose a new HVS-optimized weighting map for hiding the watermark by considering HVS in three different aspects : frequency, spatial, and motion masking effects. The global masking map is modeled by combining the frequency masking, the spatial masking, and the motion masking. In this paper, we use a watermark which is generated by the bitwise exclusive-OR operation between a logo image and a random sequence. The amount of watermarks is weighted by a control parameter. Furthermore, we embed the watermark in the uncompressed video sequence for the general watermarking method available to various coding schemes. Simulation results show that the watermark is imperceptible and the proposed method is good for watermark capacity. It is also demonstrated that the proposed method is robust against various attacks, such as MPEG coding, MPEG re-encoding, and frame attacks.

  • MCDD performs demultiplexing and demodulation of multi-carrier signals for signal processing schemes such as switching, channel encoding and remodulation in an OBP satellite. During the demultiplexing procedure, several factors such as frequency offset and/or quantization error degrade BER performance. Hence, influences of those factors should be reduced. A influence of the frequency offset can be reduced by inserting guard band between channels, and that of quantization error can be decreased by quantization level control. In case that the data rate of system is not limited, the guard band and the quantization level do not affect each other. In the other case, however, mutual influence between them should be considered. In this paper, we observe the mutual influence when the data rate of the MCDD is limited, and analyze the BER performance.

  • Provenance means the meta data that represents the history or lineage of a data in collaboration storage environments. Therefore, as provenance has been accruing over time, it takes several ten times as large as the original data. The schemes for effciently compressing huge amounts of provenance are required. In this paper, we propose a provenance compression scheme considering the RDF graph patterns. The proposed scheme represents provenance based on a standard PROV model and encodes provenance in numeric data through the text encoding. We compress provenance and RDF data using the graph patterns. Unlike conventional provenance compression techniques, we compress provenance by considering RDF documents on the semantic web. In order to show the superiority of the proposed scheme, we compare it with the existing scheme in terms of compression ratio and the processing time.

  • Most watermarking schemes for video contents protection have been studied to increase watermark's robustness and invisibility against such compressions and many kinds of signal processing after embedding copyright information to the original contents. This paper proposes an active watermarking that infect watermark to contents in the video decoding process using embedded infectious watermark and control signals from a video encoder side. To achieve this algorithm, we design a kernel based watermarking in video encoder side that is possible to recover the original contents and watermark in watermark detection procedure perfectly. And then, by reversible de-watermarking in video decoder side, we design the active watermark infection method using detected watermark and control signal. This means that our system can provide secure re-distributions of video contents without any quality degration and watermark bit error against transcoding or re-encoding processing. By experimental results, we confirmed that the embedded watermark was infected by video contents and codec perfectly without any declines of compression ratio and video quality.

  • Improving packet loss does not necessarily coincide with the improvement in user perceivable QoS because each frame carries different degree of importance. We propose Significance-aware packet scheduling (SAPS) to maximize user perceivable QoS. SAPS carries out two fundamental issues of packet scheduling: "What to transmit" and "When to transmit?" To adapt to the available bandwidth, it is necessarily to transmit the subset of the data packets if the entire set of packets can not be transmitted. "Packet Significance" quantifies the importance of the frame by elaborately incorporating frames' dependency. Greedy approach is used in selecting packets and transmission schedule is determined based on the Packet Significance. The proposed scheme is tested using publicly available MPEG-4 video clips. Decoding engine is embedded in the simulation software and user perceivable QoS is exposeed in termstermiSNR. Throughout the simulation based experiment, the performance of the proposed scheme is compared two other schemes: Size-based packet scheduling and Bit-rate based best effort packet scheduling. SAPS successfully incorporates the semantics of a packet and improves user perceivable QoS significantly. It successfully provides unequal protection to more important packets.

  • This paper proposes a novel blind image watermarking scheme exploiting Block Truncation Coding (BTC). Most of existing BTC-based watermarking or data hiding methods embed information in BTC compressed images by modifying the BTC encoding stage or BTC-compressed data, resulting in watermarked images with bad quality. Other than existing BTC-based watermarking schemes, our scheme does not really perform the BTC compression on images during the embedding process but uses the parity of BTC quantization data to guide the watermark embedding and extraction processes. In our scheme, we use a binary image as the original watermark. During the embedding process, the original cover image is first partitioned into non-overlapping $4{\times}4$ blocks. Then, BTC is performed on each block to obtain its BTC quantized high mean and low mean. According to the parity of high mean and the parity of low mean, two watermark bits are embedded in each block by modifying the pixel values in the block to make sure that the parity of high mean and the parity of low mean in the modified block are equal to the two watermark bits. During the extraction process, BTC is first performed on each block to obtain its high mean and low mean. By checking the parity of high mean and the parity of low mean, we can extract the two watermark bits in each block. The experimental results show that the proposed watermarking method is fragile to most image processing operations and various kinds of attacks while preserving the invisibility very well, thus the proposed scheme can be used for image authentication.

  • Cloud-based streaming game service has numerous merits, but it may suffer from presentation latency in a thin-client. It is an important issue especially for game service which needs instantaneous response to user inputs. This research proposes the methods for reducing the presentation latency between the server unit and the thin-client unit. The approaches proposed to be employed with server unit include the source/sync video format equalization, encoding format configuration according to the media type, and the S/W implementation for transmitting clock periodically. The methods for the thin-client unit include the decreasing the number of instructions, use of light encryption algorithm, and improvement on H/W decoding. The proposed schemes are tested with a commercialized streaming service platform, which reveals the reduction of presentation latency as large as a few hundred milliseconds and reaches the acceptable level (about 100 milliseconds).

  • Given a video frame in terms of its 8${\times}$8 block-DCT coefncients, we wish to obtain a downsized or upsized version of this Dame also in terms of 8${\times}$8 block DCT coefficients. The DCT being a linear unitary transform is distributive over matrix multiplication. This fact has been used for downsampling video frames in the DCT domains in Dugad's, Mukherjee's, and Park's methods. The downsampling and upsampling schemes combined together preserve all the low-frequency DCT coefficients of the original image. This implies tremendous savings for coding the difference between the original frame (unsampled image) and its prediction (the upsampled image). This is desirable for many applications based on scalable encoding of video. In this paper, we extend the earlier works to various DCT sizes, when we downsample and then upsample of an image by a factor of two. Through experiment, we could improve the PSM values whenever we increase the DCT block size. However, because the complexity will be also increase, we can say there is a tradeoff. The experiment result would provide important data for developing fast algorithms of compressed-domain image/video resizing.

  • In this paper, we propose the Min-hash Assisted Delta-compression Engine(MADE) to improve the lifetime of NAND flash-based storages at the device level. MADE effectively reduces the write traffic to NAND flash through the use of a novel delta compression scheme. The delta compression performance was optimized by introducing min-hash based LSH(Locality Sensitive Hash) and efficiently combining it with our delta compression method. We also developed a delta encoding technique that has functionality equivalent to deduplication and lossless compression. The results of our experiment show that MADE reduces the amount of data written on NAND flash by up to 90%, which is better than a simple combination of deduplication and lossless compression schemes by 12% on average.

  • Any errors that are generated in the channels and networks distort the video quality and are propagated in both the spatial and temporal domains. In particular, header errors ran result in serious visual degradation of the output video encoding/decoding schemes that can make an error resilient compressed bit-stream in error prone environments, such as mobile networks. In this paper, we proposes an header error resilience method that consider the activity of macroblock in video bitstream syntex. The extract of header error repaetedly embeds the header parameters into the least significant bits(LSB) of the quantized DCT coefficients prior to VLC. Experimental results show that the proposed error resilience method restores good image quality despite the detected error on header parameters.
