Cultural Competence and Influencing Factors of Dental Hygiene Students

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of cultural competence and its influencing factors among 530 dental hygiene students. The analysis was performed using PASW Statistics ver. 18.0, and the following conclusions were drawn. Cultural knowledge levels showed a significant difference according to general characteristics in four components of cultural competence levels. Cultural competence and its four components were higher in subjects who have a religion (p<0.05). The differences in cultural competence levels according to culture-related characteristics are as follows. In individuals with experience of taking foreign culture-related classes, intention to work overseas, or fluency in a foreign language, cultural competence levels and its four components such as cultural comfort, knowledge, awareness, and behavior intent were higher (p<0.05). Intention of overseas employment was the factor most strongly influencing the level of cultural competence of the subjects. The more intention the subjects have to work overseas, the more they have experienced foreign culture-related lessons, the more fluently they speak a foreign language, and the higher level of cultural competency they reached (p<0.05). As the research results show, it is necessary to establish a continuing plan to understand and communicate with individuals of other cultures through foreign language and foreign culture classes in schools in order to improve the level of cultural competence. This education would reduce the fear and stress that subjects might make a mistake in meeting with people from other cultures, and it could be a preparatory process to actively carry out dental hygiene practice with foreigners.

보건관리자와 임상간호사의 직무특성, 지식공유 및 조직문화가 조직몰입에 미치는 영향 (Relationships among Job Characteristics, Knowledge Sharing, Organizational Culture, and Organizational Commitment in Occupational Health Nurses and Clinical Nurses)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the relationships among job characteristics, knowledge sharing, organizational culture, and organizational commitment in occupational health nurses (OHN) and clinical nurses (CN) to identify factors that might influence organizational commitment. It aimed to contribute to the improvement of knowledge management in health care organizations, including industrial workplaces and hospitals. Methods: A convenience sample of 188 nurses, specifically 100 OHN and 88 CN, was selected. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-tests, correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results: OHNs had a significantly higher education level and current work experience; higher proportion of participants with contract employment status, day work shift, less turnover experience, good lifestyle; and higher scores on organizational culture ($3.3{\pm}0.61$) and organizational commitment ($3.1{\pm}0.60$). Additionally, the correlations among organizational commitment, job characteristics, knowledge sharing, and organizational culture ware higher (r=.38~.57) among OHNs as compared to those among CNs. Further, the organizational commitment of OHNs was significantly influenced by knowledge sharing, organizational culture, working hours, and salary ($R^2=.32$), while that of CNs was influenced by organizational culture and life event stress ($R^2=.11$). Conclusion: There is a need to develop measures to enable nurses to contribute to the improvement of knowledge management in health care organizations as major human resources, by including interventions for the major factors leading to between-group differences in organizational performance.

치기공과와 치위생과 학생의 특성과 전공학습 인지도 (A study of subjective oral health actual condition in elementary school teachers, Daegu area)

  • Surveying perception of majors to students of Department of dental technology 433(48.3%) and Department of dental hygiene 463(51.7%), and their sex rates 272 (30.4%) for males and 624 (69.6%) for females, 896 examines in total, have let us to know the level of student's perception of their majors and now able to adjust the level of major's lectures and maximize the ability to study has brought these conclusions. 1. Although the hometowns of students had similar rates between large and small cities disregarding their departments, the type of highschool had differences for the academic highschool graduators were the most. Also, CSAT was the highest than other specialized types when entering. 2. Self selection considering employment percentage was the highest for the student's choice of selecting department of dental hygiene and dental technology. 3. For the satisfaction of school and education systems, "satisfied" and "normal" were as high as 74% in both department of dental hygiene and dental technology for school satisfaction, and 75%, 74% for satisfaction of environment from the two departments. 4. As for the satisfaction of department and environment, department of dental hygiene and dental technology both answered "satisfied" and "normal" the most, but in satisfaction of companions, they have shown relatively high satisfaction by answering "very satisfied" and "satisfied". 5. Difficulties of majors relating to the perception of learning, department of dental technology and dental hygiene both answered too much to memorize and hard to understand. 6. Department of dental technology's try for majors relating to the level of perception of learning have shown that they have high understandings in proportion to how much they try but for department of dental hygiene has shown not much differences. 7. Department of dental hygiene had higher stress than department of dental technology in studying majors and there were both some differences statistically.

MLS 차분법의 결정 변수에 따른 정확도 분석 및 혼합변분이론을 통한 미분근사 성능향상 (On the Improvement of the Accuracy of Higher Order Derivatives in the MLS(Moving Least Square) Difference Method via Mixed Formulation)

  • 본 연구에서는 점근해석 및 논로컬 이론에서 요구하는 4차 이상의 고차 미분근사를 수행하기 위하여 계방정식에 혼합변분이론을 적용하여 MLS 차분법으로부터 구해지는 고차 미분근사의 정확도를 큰 폭으로 향상시킨다. 또한, MLS 차분법에 존재하는 세 가지 조건변수에 따른 고차미분근사의 정확도를 비교·분석한다. 혼합변분이론의 합응력을 후처리하여 변위의 미분을 근사할 경우 기존의 변위장 기반 계방정식의 차분 결과에 비해 미분 차수가 2차 낮아진다. 해석 범위내 절점 수가 과도하게 많거나 기저 차수가 클 경우 MLS 차분법의 영향영역 내에서 과적합(overfitting)이 발생한다. 또한 영향영역이 최적 범위 이상으로 넓어질 경우 근사의 정확도가 떨어진다. 위 내용을 사인 하중을 받는 단순지지보 수치예제로부터 확인하였다.

  • A study was performed to develop as a screening tool the Simple Evaluation Questionnaire for Screening the Over-weight-type Dietary Pattern in 30 to 49 Year Old Adults. We used the data from the 30 to 49 year old subjects who participated in the three surveys - the health behavior survey, the dietary habit survey and the food intake survey - as the National Health and Nutrition Survey 1998. The 3,598 adults were classified into to two body fatness groups of normal (including underweight) and overweight (including obese) on the basis of their relative body weight (RBW) When comparing variables between the two groups, significant differences were found in gender, education, job, employment status, perceived health status, sadness / depression state, stress level, age, number of diseases, age when overweightedness started, maximum body weight, sleep length, drinking pattern (yes/no) , amount of alcoholic drinks, frequency of intoxication or drunkeness, amount of alcoholic drinks when drunk, intensity of exercise, frequency of exercise, exercise duration, skipped meals, small meals and drug supplements. In terms of food intake, there were significant differences in the daily food intake in terms of breakfast, dinner, daily kimchi and dairy products. In terms of mealtimes, we found differences in the amount of cooked rice at breakfast, kimchi at lunch, soup / kuk at dinner, fresh vegetables for snacks, fried foods for snacks between breakfast and lunch, and fruits /juices for snacks between lunch and dinner. After developing questions with indicators and analyzing the indicators by logistic regression analysis three times, we chose 10 questions for a simple evaluation of dietary patterns for the overweight-type category in order to give one point each. Among them we selected two questions to add one additional point and one question to add two additional points. The average scores of the overweight and normal groups, as shown by the developed questionnaire, were $5.97 \pm 2.36 \pm 7.36 \pm 2.21$, respectively. A score of seven points was selected as the cut-off point. We examined the sensitivity, specificity and positive predictive value of the questionnaire to the results of 67%, 59% and 62%, respectively.

영구임대주택 입주자의 관리비 및 임대료 체납 실태와 의식 (Issues and Perception on Management Fee and Rental Payment Overdue of Permanent Rental Housing Residents)

  • Permanent rental housing, the construction of which was strongly financed by the central government, is regarded as a social housing for those who fall within the lowest income bracket. Differing from "public rental housing", offered to tenants for sale after a five year rental period, this type of housing is intended for rental use on a long-tenn basis. At present, about 190,000 permanent rental housing units exist in Korea. According to a statistics, 15.6% of its residents did not pay their management fee and rental payment in 4 or more months in 2005, which places stress on the housing management. Based on the "eviction condition" stipulated in the tenancy agreement for permanent rental housing, a householder owning assets or a vehicle which is not used as his means of living, who is overdue with his management fee and rental payment for a long time, may be evicted from the house. However, there are many conflicts and problems between administrators/housing managers and residents in the process of enforcing this regulation. The purpose of this study is to explore the key issues associated with the present situation and the reasons why so many management fee and rental payment for permanent rental housing are overdue. For the purpose of research, data were collected from 10,990 permanent rental housing residents nationwide via a questionnaire survey in February 2007. One third of the respondents had an experience of more than 2 months overdue since they have moved in current residence. For further analysis, the respondents were divided into three groups, based on their working ability. The major finding showed that the group of respondents who have working ability required a more practical plan, such as employment, to have a sustainable life, while the other group of no labor force indicated a need for more housing allowance from the government. To suggest more specific alternatives for the subject of housing payment overdue, further comparison study should be performed between the residents of permanent rental housing and other low income tenants in private housing sector.

성인 여성의 위험음주에 영향을 미치는 요인: 융복합적 함의를 중심으로 (Factors associated with risky drinking of adult women: Focused on convergent implications)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 성년기, 중년기, 노년기 여성을 대상으로 인구사회학적 요인, 사회적 관계 요인, 건강관련 요인이 위험음주에 미치는 영향을 파악하는 것이다. 본 연구는 제6기(2013-2015) 국민건강영양조사 자료를 이용하여 성년기 여성 1,143명, 중년기 여성 1,306명, 노년기 여성 875명을 대상으로 위험음주에 영향을 미치는 요인을 검증하고자 각 연령집단별로 각각의 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 성년기 여성의 경우, 교육수준, 결혼상태, 경제활동상태, 우울감, 흡연이 위험음주에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 중년기 여성의 경우, 주관적 스트레스 수준과 흡연만이 위험음주에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 노년기 여성의 경우, 교육수준, 자살생각, 주관적 건강상태가 위험음주에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과는 생애주기에 따라 여성의 위험음주에 영향을 미치는 요인이 상이하다는 것을 의미한다. 이를 토대로 생애주기별 여성의 위험음주를 감소시키기 위한 융복합적 방안을 논의하였다.

The Effect of Organizational Characteristics in the Vessel with Foreign Crews on the Self-efficacy and Organizational Commitment

  • The primary purpose of this study is to examine empirically the effect of the organizational characteristics in the vessel with foreign crews on their self-efficacy and organization commitment. Currently, the restrictions on the employment of the foreign crews are being eased in the Korean shipping industry and many problems are occurring consequently. However, specific and empirical studies on the relevancy of organizational characteristics to the crew's self-efficacy and organizational commitment on board the vessels with combined crews have not yet been carried out. To solve these problems, we examined how the organizational characteristics such as communication and leadership trust of different language and culture related to vessels with combined crews influence on the self-efficacy, job satisfaction and organizational commitment of the foreign crews through SEM analysis. According to the results, hypothesis 1, 2 and 3 were all supported with statistical significance. That means that communication and leadership trust of the vessel with foreign crew had positive effects on their self-efficacy and that such self-efficacy also had a positive effect on the organizational commitment and job satisfaction. To conclude, this study suggests that foreign crew's self-efficacy should be firstly enhanced in order to improve organizational commitment on the vessel with combined crews. Furthermore, studies on self-efficacy of foreign crew's organization are urgently needed to enhance the effectiveness of an organization in a vessel with combined crews that has special environment - working environment with depression and uneasiness due to the exposure to the different language and culture, and excessive stress from the social and psychological adaptation. Therefore, an attempt of this study is considered to be timely since there has not been a study on this subject so far and result of this study will contribute a lot to the organization management of a vessel with combined crews.

Numerical study on the structural performance of corrugated low yield point steel plate shear walls with circular openings

  • Corrugated steel plate shear wall (CSPSW) as an innovative lateral load resisting system provides various advantages in comparison with the flat steel plate shear wall, including remarkable in-plane and out-of-plane stiffnesses and stability, greater elastic shear buckling stress, increasing the amount of cumulative dissipated energy and maintaining efficiency even in large story drifts. Employment of low yield point (LYP) steel web plate in steel shear walls can dramatically improve their structural performance and prevent early stage instability of the panels. This paper presents a comprehensive structural performance assessment of corrugated low yield point steel plate shear walls having circular openings located in different positions. Accordingly, following experimental verification of CSPSW finite element models, several trapezoidally horizontal CSPSW (H-CSPSW) models having LYP steel web plates as well as circular openings (for ducts) perforated in various locations have been developed to explore their hysteresis behavior, cumulative dissipated energy, lateral stiffness, and ultimate strength under cyclic loading. Obtained results reveal that the rehabilitation of damaged steel shear walls using corrugated LYP steel web plate can enhance their structural performance. Furthermore, choosing a suitable location for the circular opening regarding the design purpose paves the way for the achievement of the shear wall's optimal performance.

  • 한국의 고등직업교육은 40년의 발전 끝에 기초적인 발전에서 질적인 발전으로의 전환으로 이미 칭찬할 만한 성과를 거두었다. 중국의 고등직업교육원은 개혁개방을 거쳐 많은 양의 양질의 기술기술인재를 각 분야로 이송하였다. 고등직업교육은 중국 교육제도의 필수불가결한 부분으로서 "고품질", "실용" 및 "기능성" 인재를 양성하는 중요한 능력으로 경제 및 사회 발전에 큰 기여를 한다. 이와 함께 소작농, 가사도우미, 퇴직근로자 등 상대적으로 기능이 낮은 근로자의 고용스트레스가 증가하고 있다. 이러한 배경에서 고등 교육은 실업 문제를 해결하고 강력한 인적 자원을 사회에 제공하기 위해 국가 정책을 안내하고 지원하는 데 필수적이다.
