  • This study starts from the perspective that preparing students for employment is the most important role of undergraduate degree programs. Therefore, we examine the determinants of undergraduate employment, especially highlighting the differences by disciplines. We classify 28 factors into five categories such as personal attributes, entrance attributes, students’ employment-related activities, regular curriculum and employability programs provided by universities. This study is based on data from 7,616 students from a Korean university over four and half years. Findings reveal that university efforts are crucial in engineering. Only exchange programs and employment programs have an impact on science. There are no specific factors in humanities and social science. Grade point average and students’ efforts are important in business. Face-to-face coaching in employability support programs is effective for securing employment except in science disciplines. The study results do not point to the absence of a role of university even in the low employment disciplines. Rather, the issue is that of an over-supply of graduates exceeding job offers that results from the worldwide expansion of higher education services.

  • This study analyzed the employment efficiency of Korean colleges and universities using DEA(2015 GOMS), which was surveyed by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Employment Information Service. The input variables were employment program participants, language educators, family economic applicants, and employment targets. As a result, the college was more efficient than the college and the college was relatively ineffective. The contribution of input and output contributed the highest efficiency with 99.9% of the participants in the employment program, and the possibility of improving the efficiency of the language educator was the highest at 70.04. Based on the results of the above research, it suggests the necessity of activation of employment programs and activation of language training in each university. Future studies will need to study the efficiency of universities nationwide.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted in order to investigate factors associated with employment stress and the relationships among employment stress, depression, and body mass index (BMI) among college nursing students. Methods: Subjects included 319 students at two colleges in Kyonggi and Chungbuk province, who were asked to complete a survey questionnaire. T-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression were used for statistical analysis of data. Results: Results of this study showed an average value of 53.39 for the total employment stress scale, and both values for familial environmental stress and school environmental stress were relatively higher among subscales of employment stress. The average score on the depression scale was 10.18 indicating slightly high, and BMI was 20.35 with an obesity fraction of 12.3%. In addition, the results also indicated that they suffered from much stronger employment stress according to their severity of depression. Overall factors that affect employment stress included depression, age, economic status, and whether family members live together or not. However, BMI had no significant statistical effect on employment stress. Conclusion: Results of this study suggest that it is necessary for students to measure and control their employment stress and depression, because employment stress is closely associated with depression.

Firstly, it has revealed that the regional disparity of employment is deepening and disparity from the quality side and stability side are more serious. Secondly, the strongest regional employment competitiveness was found to be Chungnam, followed by Seoul, Ulsan, Gyeongbuk, Daejeon and the region of employment risky is Busan. Lastly, it has analysed that the most influencing factors on employment competitiveness are criteria of stability sector. Therefore, we should make efforts to create jobs of good quality and stable, in order to reduce regional disparity and strengthen the competitiveness of employment. And especially region of employment risky must require continuous monitoring.

To achieve this goal, attitude and information about elderly employment were required, and the groups divided based on them were found. The results of the research are as follows: 1. Attitudes toward employment of the elderly was considerably positive. Among the attitudes, the attitude toward employment-support was the most positive, and the attitude toward employment-motive was relatively less positive. 2. The extent the elderly possessed information about employment was comparatively limited, and quite a low score was shown in knowledge of employment-information of the elderly, which means the elderly are not exposed to the ways to get employed. 3. The groups were divided in four type: passive-stagnation, positive-adjustment, lack of information-work oriented, retirement oriented. Of the employed, the positive-adjustment were the most and the passive-stagnation were the least, while the lack of information-work oriented were the most and the retirement oriented were the least of the unemployed. The result that the lack of information-work oriented were the most of the unemployed shows the choice of unemployment was not an intended one.

  • Purpose: This study examines the relationship between formation of employment subcenters and regional industrial structures in Incheon. Research design, data, and methodology: We used the five-year panel data from 2012 to 2016 in 146 basic municipal units of Incheon to analyze panel regression models. Gross employment density and employment to population ratio were used as indicators of employment subcenters formation. The entropy index and Hachman index were used for analyzing the diversity and heterogeneity of industrial structures. Result: The analyses of two panel regression models showed that for the formation of employment subcenters, both the Entropy and Hachman index were significantly negative in most models. But tertiary industry was shown to have a significant positive relationship in all models. In the wholesale and retail sector, it was found that the average number of employees in the employment subcenters is significantly higher than that in the non-employment subcenters. Conclusions: The specialization of the industrial structure rather than the diversification contributes to the formation of the employment subcenters in Incheon. In particular, it can be considered that the wholesale and retail sector plays a very important role in forming the employment subcenters in many areas of Incheon.

  • The present study is designed to trace the successful reform steps taken within the employment support system in the UK and to extract a set of instructive implications for Korea's future reform path towards an efficient employment support system conductive to youth employment by setting out an analytical framework that links the British experience to the Korean context. To this end, this study focuses on three major aspects of employment support system: delivery mechanism, method of delivery, and programs. Implications drawn from the comparative analysis are as follows. First, the current employment support services in Korea-including job placement service, vocational training, and public works-should be more tightly integrated and delivered in a more consistent fashion in order to become highly accessible to the unemployed. Second, the cooperative network between employment service providers and the corporate sector as demander of labor should be institutionalized in order to make the employment support system more responsive to labor demand. Third, to create an enhanced employment support system that counts in individual differences of the unemployed would require continued, in-depth consultation and case management services along with fully specialized employment caseworkers who would provide them. Fourth, the government should take the initiative and be unflaggingly supportive both institutionally and financially in making future efforts to continuously improve the employment support system on the basis of the implications mentioned above.
