The Moderating Effect of Perceived Alternative Job Opportunities between Organizational Justice and Job Satisfaction: Evidence from Developing Countries

  • Purpose - This study examines the relationship between organizational justice and employee job satisfaction and the extent of its moderation by perceived alternative job opportunities. Research design, data, and methodology - This is a cross-sectional study utilizing survey questionnaire data from 220 bank employees, which included scales measuring organizational justice, job satisfaction, and perceived alternative job opportunities. Results - The data is analyzed using correlation and hierarchical regression. Results demonstrated that organizational justice has a direct positive impact on employee job satisfaction further, distributive justice explains more variance in job satisfaction, followed by procedural justice and interactive justice. Perceived alternative job opportunities moderate the relationship between organizational justice and job satisfaction. Conclusions - Generally, organizational justice increases bank employees' job satisfaction; however, when they perceived more job opportunities, their job dissatisfaction increased notwithstanding fairness. Therefore, perceived job opportunities moderate the relationship between organizational justice and job satisfaction. Retaining skilled employees has become difficult, especially when there is market demand for skilled workers. Human resource (HR) managers should consider market situations before formulating policies; otherwise, they may lose the competitive advantage of skilled employees and workers.

  • The purpose of this study is finding the right direction to make the best career development systems for the employees in hotel industry in Korea. The condition of the best career development system is satisfaction from companies and employees each other. However, making that condition is not easy for every industry as well as for hotel industry over the world. In this respect, we can find the three directions of career development for applying the systems to the employees like strategy direction oriented, development direction oriented and employee satisfaction oriented. Among those directions, we have to find the best direction for individual satisfaction and organizational company satisfaction. This study will help to make and execute the plan for career development in real hotel industry fields, especially for the policy of human resources management. In this study, we can see the importance of employees' satisfaction for managing a hotel. The increasing productivity of the hotel eventually will be made from career development through employee satisfaction.

  • This study investigates the effect of job satisfaction as a mediator of job placement on employees' organizational commitment in the Sumatra-Indonesia energy sector. Permanent personnel of a PGU unit power plant in Sumatra, Indonesia, made up the population and sample. The sampling technique used was saturated sampling of 129 employees. The research model and hypotheses were tested using multiple regression analysis. This study indicate that job placement has a significant positive effect on job satisfaction. Simultaneously, job placement does not have a significant positive effect on organizational commitment. Secondly, job satisfaction has a significant positive effect on organizational commitment and finally, job satisfaction mediates the relationship between job placement and organizational commitment. The results of this study indicate that job placement has a significant positive effect on job satisfaction. Therefore, the right job placement will lead to employee job satisfaction. Another finding is that job placement has a positive and insignificant effect on organizational commitment. Furthermore, job satisfaction has a significant positive effect on organizational commitment. The results of this study indicate that the higher the job satisfaction of the PGU unit employees in the Sumatra area, the higher the level of employee organizational commitment will be.

  • The purpose of this study was to empirically examine the effect of job satisfaction and organizational citizenship behavior on customer orientation to investigate the causal relationships among these variables. The questionnaires was administered to 121 fashion product employees of department stores in Gwang-ju city during February $10{\sim}15$, 2006. For analysis of data, frequency, factor analysis, t-test, ANOVA, regression analysis, and path analysis were applied. The results indicated that job satisfaction of employees significantly influenced customer orientation(p<0.001) and organizational citizenship behavior(p<0.001). The organizational citizenship behavior of employees significantly influenced customer orientation(p<0.001). The job satisfaction had both direct and indirect effects on customer orientation mediated by organizational citizenship behavior.

  • This study examines the effects of job stress on employees in the beauty service industry and the consequences on job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Based on the analysis of the job stress of beauty employees, the purpose of the study is to identify the beauty service industry's problems and present marketing implications. First, it was found that employees' job stress in the beauty service industry harmed job satisfaction. Beauty workers with a high job satisfaction increase the quality of service for customers, which can increase the customer's store loyalty, helping the beauty service industry's work performance, thereby further increasing job satisfaction by reducing job stress. Second, it was found that employees' job stress in the beauty service industry harmed organizational commitment. The higher the organizational commitment is, the more sense of belonging is created, which in turn can improve the work performance of the beauty industry workers and reduce the turnover rate. Therefore, it is necessary to find a way to increase organizational commitment by reducing beauty workers' job stress. Third, it was found that employees' job satisfaction in the beauty service industry had a positive effect on organizational commitment. These results show that the higher the job satisfaction related to the beauty worker's current job satisfaction, current salary satisfaction, satisfaction with the boss, satisfaction with the work environment, and passion for the job, the higher the organizational commitment.

  • Domestic casino companies strongly demand their employees to provide high quality customer services for improving customer's satisfaction and to minimize customer's complain to achieve organizational objective. This seriously influences the job stress, job satisfaction and turnover of employees. However, ongoing management is necessary for job satisfaction and turnover intention of employees because which are related to organizational effectiveness and factors able to maximize the profit. In this study, we examined the influence and causal relationship of job stress from emotional labor of employees on job satisfaction and turnover intention of employees. As a result, job stress had a full mediating effect in the relationship between emotional labor, job satisfaction and turnover intention. It was confirmed that emotional labor of casino employees could cause job stress and further influence job satisfaction and turnover intention. In order to reduce job stress and improve job satisfaction, we propose the improvement of overall human management structure and company environment of casino companies. Emotional education such as emotional regulation ability, empathy, and interpersonal skills should be strengthened to reduce job stress from emotional labor, and the self-esteem program will be helpful to casino employees to maintain the emotional positiveness and maximize their working abilities.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of HR practices such as (Recruitment, empowerment, working condition and compensation) on Job satisfaction in the prospects of Hotel Industry of Pakistan. The sample size for this study was 100 employees who were selected through convenience sampling techniques. This study was restricted to 10 Hotels of Peshawar. Hypotheses of the study were tested through correlation and regression analysis to inspect the employee's satisfaction. The findings investigates that there is significant relationship between HR practices and job satisfaction. Moreover Recruitment and selection, empowerment and working condition have positive effect on job satisfaction, while compensation has negative effect on job satisfaction, which indicates that most of employees are not satisfied from payment of employer. Empirical findings concluded that best HR practices have significant and positive effect on employees job satisfaction. Therefore, it is suggested for HR manager to understand and implement the HR practices correctly to take good work from their employees.

  • The aim of this paper is to improve employee job satisfaction through the influence of superiors' leadership related to trust and job satisfaction of hotel employees who strive to provide better service for guest. We analyzed the correlation between superior's leadership and the trust and job satisfaction of the employees. The result of this analysis indicates that the influence of the superiors' leadership on the trust and job satisfaction of employees favourable, and worthy of individual consideration and conditional compensation. Job satisfaction for employees has a direct correlation with each situation and reward of state of affairs. Further, the influence on job satisfaction is shown as statistically significant in relation to the senior's trust.

  • The purpose of this treatise is to evaluate impact of education and training of travel industry's employees upon their job satisfaction and to seek for improving efficiency of such education and training and measures for personnel management. It is also to evaluate impact of education and training of travel industry's employees upon their job performance. Moreover it is attempted to make suggestions for emphasizing importance of developing potentiality of travel industry's employees and suggestions for enhancing job satisfaction of employees. Review on outcome of education and training of travel industry's employees revealed that improvement of their job satisfaction depends on contents of education and training and motivation for it, desire and ability for achievement. Also it depends on support from their superiors or colleagues and existence of environmental atmosphere. In future it is necessary to develop diverse education and training programs for the employees and not only travel industry but also competent government agencies should make long-term investment and support for fostering excellent employees in future.

A Study on the Relationship between Job Satisfaction of Lower-ranking Officers and Transformational Leadership of Higher-ranking Officers for the Government Employees in Education Administration (교육행정공무원 상급자의 변혁적 지도성과 하급자의 직무만족 간의 관계 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze clarify the relationship of transformational leadership of higher-ranking officers and work satisfaction of lower-ranking officers for the government employees in education administration. The main conclusions were as the followings. First, looking into the analysis result on the transformational leadership of higher-ranking officers, there is a noticeable difference for each position, grade 6 shows noticeably low difference than grade 8 and grade 9 in overall position, and for each service agency, the government employees in board of education show noticeably higher difference than the government employees in elementary schools on entire serve agencies. Second, looking into the analysis result on the work satisfaction of lower-ranking officers, for each position, grade 6 and grade 7 government employees show noticeably low difference than grade 8 and grade 9 in personnel territory and education and training territory, and for each service agency, government employees in the board of education show noticeably higher difference than the government employees in elementary and middle schools on agencies. And third, looking into the analysis result on the relationship of work satisfaction of lower-ranking officers and the transformational leadership of higher-ranking officers, the statistically noticeable level of static correlation has been shown for vision setting and growth-striving territory from the lower domain of the transformational leadership of higher-ranking officers in personnel, compensation, working environment and so forth, efficiency territory of operation, cohesion territory of department and charisma leadership territory in personnel domain, cohesion territory of department in personnel domain, human respect territory in duty, personnel, and compensation domain.
