The Effects of Human Resource Management on Organizational Effectiveness (중소기업의 고몰입 인적자원관리가 조직효과성에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the relationship between high involvement Human Resource Management and organizational effectiveness in small company. High involvement Human Resource Management practices include training, incentive, performance appraisal, participation, proposal, communication, job description. This research approached organizational effectiveness using internal process and goal. Internal process approach measured internal organizational health using aggregate organizational commitment, turnover intention, job search. Goal approach measured organizational growth using sales growth rate per employee and net income growth rate per employee. Using the collected data from 267 employees at 27 small-sized firms located in South region in Korea, this research tested and confirmed the construct validity regression analysis at the organizational level. This research came to the conclusions to as follows: First, high-involvement HRM had the positive effect on the organizational commitment. Second, high-involvement HRM had the negative effect on the turnover intention. The findings suggest that high-involvement HRM is a valuable construct to understand internal process approach of organizational effectiveness in small firms.

  • Service industry performance and competitive advantage depend on the attitudes and behavior of customer service employees who produce and deliver services through contact with customers. Most studies on customer service employees so far have concentrated on kindness, attitudes, or benefits. This study focuses on the increasing importance of customer service employees and intends to study them from the viewpoint of human brands that recognize customer service employees as a brand. In addition to the role of the employee at the service contact point, the customer participation behavior affects the interaction process with the customer service employee. Ultimately, customers could no longer be excluded from control to improve service quality. This study based on theory that the human brand characteristics of the customer service employees lead the customer's participation, which has a positive effect on the relationship with the service brand and the service brand attitude surveyed and analyzed customers who use service brand. This study is summarized as follows. First, the relationship between the service brand and the customer is examined. Second, this study also expands prior studies by examining the human brand characteristics of customer service employees and customers' willingness to participate in providing information on the impact of the consumer-brand relationship. The results of the study indicate that among the customer service employees' human brand characteristics reliability, familiarity, and empathy were found to affect the relationship between customers, the service brand, and the attitude toward the service brand the most. This study provides important implications for theoretical and practical strategies by examining the qualities and characteristics of customer service employees, which are the most important agents of marketing.

  • Based on the premise that a systematic career process was one of the essential elements of successful task performance both for individuals and the organization in the field of social welfare, this study set out to empirically analyze factors influencing the career commitment of social workers at a multidimensional level and provide practical implications for the directionality of career management on the basis of data with theoretical and statistical accuracy. For those purposes, the study collected individual and organizational characteristics data from 787 social workers at 46 agencies through a structured questionnaire and analyzed influential factors through the multilevel analysis technique by taking organizational effects into account. The analysis results show that explanations by the organization characteristics recorded significant 15% in the total variance of career commitment and that its influential factors included such significant variables as the protean career attitude, desire for growth, human network, and self-efficacy at the individual level and also the qualification compensation system at the organizational level. The study then proposed and discussed integrated practice strategies between individuals and agencies as the measures to promote career success through the activation of individual factors based on the consideration of organizational effects such as the application of an employee assistant program, provision of incentives to professional career development, and shift to a learning organization.

Factors Affecting the Participation Rate in the Health Screening Program of Medical Insurance (의료보험 성인병 건강검진율의 결정요인)

  • Objective : To analyze the factors affecting the participation rate in the health screening program of medical insurance. Method : We investigated the factors associated with the participation rate in the health screening program in Korea. Data were collected at the aggregate level from 145 employee health insurance societies and 227 self-employed health insurance societies from 1995 to 1997 Data were also collected at the individual level from four health insurance societies. This study hypothesized that the participation rate of the health screening program was related to 1) the characteristics of its members and the size of the health insurance society; 2) the specifications of the health screening program; 3) the venue of the health screening institution and the interests of individuals in the health screening program; and 4) the activities of the health insurance society. We used bivariate and multiple regression models to examine the factors on the participation rate of the health screening program. Results : First, in the case of dependents of on employee health insurance society, the ratio of dependents 40 years old and over, the average monthly contribution per household, the interest and satisfaction level of individuals in health screening, and the level of refunds for over-payment were all associated with the participation rate in the health screening program, accounting for 54.4% of the participation rate. Second, in case of those insured by the self-employed health insurance society, the interest and satisfaction level of individuals in health screening, the level of refunds for over-payment, and the performance level of on-the-spot health screening were statistically significant, accounting for 40.1% of the participation rate. Conclusion : The factors concerning the participation rate in the health screening program of medical insurance, in both a health insurance society and for individuals, were closely related to the age and gender of individuals and household contributions.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the implications for maximizing the efficiency of job training conducted by companies through studying the effects of job education and training programs on job efficiency and job satisfaction. This study surveyed 300 employees of medium and large companies in Cheongju. The causality was verified based on the collected questionnaires. The results of the study are as follows. First, companies should understand the educational needs of heir employees and develop and operate employee-centered education programs. Second, companies need to have an autonomous system in order to allow voluntary application of education that can help employees to perform their duties among the external education programs. Third, companies should uncover the needs of their employees in various ways and build up the latest educational materials and educational environment to establish new knowledge and learning conditions. Finally, companies should recognize their employees as a concept of their partners and respect each employee's capabilities so that they can have autonomy and fun in their work activities.

  • The view of social responsibility activities from the pioneer studies found that most research is mainly limited to the corporate social responsibility activities. The related studies on the individual level are very few. Therefore, it is very necessary to make a clearer and more systematic empirical research for the global companies whose employees are directly involved in the companies' social responsibility activities. In order to find the relationship between variables, we collected data from chinese employee of Korean firms which located in China. The result of empirical test is as follows; First, the social responsibility activities of the individual level have a significant positive effect on the employees' job satisfaction and organization inputs. In other words, social responsibility activities could improve the employee's job satisfaction and organization inputs. Second, innovative organizational culture of South Korean companies has a significant positive effect on the individual level social responsibility activities. Third, transformational leadership of the CEO in South Korean have no effect on personal level social responsibility activities. Fourth, the CEO'S ethical values have great positive effect on personal level of social responsibility activities. Through the analysis we can see, in the process of global corporate implicating social responsibility activities, the CEO'S ethical values are more important than the transformational leadership of the CEO. Finally, in the relationship between the employees' personal ethical values and personal social responsibility activities, the employees' personal ethical values in South Korean companies have great positive effect on the personal level social responsibility activities.

The Effects of Emotional Intelligence on the Customer Orientation and Customer Relationship Management Performance of Hotel Employees (호텔기업 종업원의 감성지능이 고객지향성과 CRM성과에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose - This study aimed to (a) investigate the effects of emotional intelligence on customer orientation, (b) examine the impact of customer orientation on customer relationship management (CRM) performance (including CRM-related variables such as 'relationship commitment,' 'image of corporation,' and 'customer loyalty'), and (c) identify the conceptual framework of emotional intelligence. Research design, data, and methodology - The data were collected using a questionnaire given to a sample of employees of luxury hotels in the metropolitan area. To test the hypotheses, AMOS were conducted for the 271 respondents of the sample using the SPSS Win 17.0 software. The concept of emotional intelligence (EI) has been on the radar of many leaders and managers over the past few decades. Emotional intelligence is generally accepted to be a combination of emotional and interpersonal competencies that influence behavior, thoughts, and interactions with others. Emotional intelligence consists of four factors: understanding the self's emotion, understanding other people's emotions, emotion utilization, and emotion control. Understanding the self's emotion means to understand of my own emotions. Understanding other people's emotions is to understand of the emotions of the people around me and to know how my friends feel based on their behavior. The concept of emotion utilization means to set goals for myself and then try to achieve them, encouraging myself to do my best. The concept of emotion control means I can control my temper, handle difficult situations rationally, and calm down quickly when I am very angry. Results - As a result of the analysis, three factors (understanding the self's emotion, understanding of other people's emotions, and emotion utilization) were shown to have a significant effect on customer orientation. Emotion control had an insignificant effect on customer orientation. Only emotion control makes it difficult to solve customers' problems because it is a passive behavior. In order to solve the customers' problems, hotel employees have to show a positive attitude. Second, customer orientation had a significant effect on customer relationship management performance (customer relationship commitment, corporate image, and customer loyalty). In other words, customer orientation increases commitment to customer relationships. For example, employees who have a customer-orientated perspective provide good service to their customers, while employees who don't have a customer-orientated perspective can't satisfy their customers. Customer orientation can also generate a good image among customers, because they evaluate the image of a hotel through the behavior of hotel employees. So it is very important for employees to show excellent customer orientation. Conclusions - It is very important for hotel CEOs to manage their employees' emotional intelligence. In order to increase their employees' emotional intelligence abilities, CEOs have to manage the overall corporate culture and reward programs to achieve what they want. This is because the system can lead to a customer-orientated mind-set and CRM performance among employees. As a result, the hotel CEO has to pay attention to the emotional intelligence of employees to achieve strong CRM performance. The sentence as originally written was a bit unclear. A Study on the Effects of Job Satisfaction and Job Performance of Disabled Workers in Social Enterprises (국내 사회적 기업 장애인 근로자의 직무만족과 직무성과의 영향요인 분석)

  • This study inspected 203 employees with disabilities who are working in social enterprises based in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do from March to June 2019 in order to find out the factors of self-efficacy, social support, wages and welfare, relationship with upper management and co-worker relationships which influence job Performance and job satisfaction of disabled workers. The implications of this research are as follows. First, the factors that positively affect work performance are self-efficacy and co-worker relationships. It was shown that trust and respect that disabled workers working in domestic social corporations perceive while diligently performing the work without any bias and getting from coworkers led to good work performance. Second, when the current wage was determined by the employee's perceived ability, skill and current workloads that fit to their ability, the workers expressed job satisfaction. Moreover, job satisfaction by the employees was followed by the perception of the possibility of living a more stable life with the current monthly income. Third, upper managements' care on personal issues, acknowledgment of autonomy and support through communication have led to job satisfaction among the employees. Lastly, considering the research result in which the social support that the disabled workers perceive does not show any positive effect on work performance or work satisfaction, it can be concluded that there is a need for a change in the social perception of disabled workers.

Affects on Implementation Level of IMS Activity and Performance according to IMS directivity and Fitness of Firm's Culture (IMS지향성과 기업문화 적합도가 IMS활동의 이행수준과 성과에 미치는 영향)

  • With a sample of 147 Korean small and medium size companies, this study examined the relationships among degree of information orientation, corporate culture, degree of information management implementation and selected business performances in the process of implementing IMS(Information Management System). Information orientation is defined as company-wide understanding and implementation of the underlying philosophy, principles, approached, and tools of information improvement programs. It is assumed that successful implementation of information improvement programs requires a information-oriented mind-set of the employees. It is also assumed that successful implementation of information improvement programs require strong support from s corporate culture that emphasizes continues improvement. Adopting the competing values model of Quinn and McGrath(1985), corporate culture is classified into 'flexible' versus 'controlled culture' and 'outer-directed' versus 'inner-directed culture'. This study examined how such fitness influenced the implementation of information innovation programs and business performance. Implementation of information innovation programs was measured through various factors, such as leadership, strategic information planning, human resources focus, customer and market focus, process management, and information analysis and application. Business performance was measured through non-financial performance measuresm such as employee results, process results, information results, and customer results, and through perceived financial performance measures.

A Study on Sanitation Management Recognition and Employee Performance in the Kitchens and Food and Beverage Departments of Deluxe Hotels (특급 호텔 조리 식음료 종사자의 위생 관리 인지도 및 수행도에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to assess the current status of food safety/sanitation training programs, including HACCP, for kitchen and hall employees at major hotels, as well as how differently the training can affect the employees' recognition and performance of food safety/sanitation management in areas related to the facility, food, and their personal hygiene. A questionnaire for assessing the recognition and performance of sanitation management was developed and distributed to 430 employees currently working in the kitchens and halls of 5 hotels located in Seoul, Korea. A total of 324 questionnaires (kitchen: 138, hall: 186) were subjected to frequency analysis, chi-square tests, one way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation analysis using SPSS/windows software. Ninety-one percent of the respondents had received food safety/sanitation training, which was conducted by a hygienist or a cook once a month. However, only 55% of the respondents had HACCP training. The employees that did not have HACCP training had lower recognition scores than those who had HACCP training, especially in the washing procedures for tablewares, handwashing tools, cross contamination, reheating, and HACCP definitions. Trained, full-time employees received significantly higher recognition and performance scores than untrained, contract, or part-time employees. Significant differences in the recognition and performance scores were found among the employees of the 5 different hotels, indicating various levels for the outcome of their sanitation training. In addition, Pearson's correlation analysis confirmed that the recognition and performance scores were significantly correlated (r=0.473, p<.001). This study indicates that hotel foodservice employees must receive systematic food safety/sanitation training, including HACCP, which provides the foundation for safe foodservice operations.
