Brief Review of Studies on Concrete Wall Panels in One and Two Way Action

  • This paper provides review of research results undertaken on reinforced concrete wall panels in one way and two way. The review also highlights two well accepted code design methods from the American (ACI) and Australia Concrete structures standards. The emphasis is on walls under axial compression only with changes in various parameters. These include the variation of panel dimensions panels (ie. Slenderness, thinness and aspect ratios), steel reinforcement, eccentricities, concrete strength and support conditions. The main purpose of this review is to compile research previous by undertaken to highlight the inadequate in certain research literature. It is envisage that this review will expose areas in wall research required so that inadequate in current methods can be rectified.

  • High-pressurized jet is widely using in industrial works. however, few papers studied on the performances or characteristics on that kind of nozzles. And in this study, some flow characteristics with the variation of nozzle aspect ratios such as mean velocity distributions, momentum variations along the center line have been experimentally investigated. As the results, some semi-empirical correlations of profiles of pressure and mean velocity distributions, momentum conservations with the nozzle aspect ratios are formulated. It is expected that these empirical formula can be applied for the random estimations of nozzle performances.

  • In this study, a systematic approach for roll pass design in bar rolling was studied. To minimize the trial and errors in the process design, a roll CAD system and a FE analysis system were combined. Based on the system, a methodology for roll pass design by FEM was studied. At first, designed process was compared with the FE analysis results and process redesign based on the FEM results was performed to obtain the specified final geometry. Then, empirical formula for roll speed set-up was compared with the FE analysis results. Further study on various simulations for bar rolling will help in making up for the inaccuracy in the currently used empirical roll speed rules. In addition, verification of the accuracy of the FE analysis system must be performed using experimental data in the industry.

집합 피복 공식화를 이용한 명제논리의 만족도 문제에 대한 계산실험 연구 (An Empirical Study for Satisfiability Problems in Propositional Logic Using Set Covering Formulation)

  • A satisfiability problem in propositional logic is the problem of checking for the existence of a set of truth values of atomic prepositions that renders an input propositional formula true. This paper describes an empirical investigation of a particular integer programming approach, using the set covering model, to solve satisfiability problems. Our satisfiability engine, SETSAT, is a fully integrated, linear programming based, branch and bound method using various symbolic routines for the reduction of the logic formulas. SETSAT has been implemented in the integer programming shell MINTO which, in turn, uses the CPLEX linear programming system. The logic processing routines were written in C and integrated into the MINTO functions. The experiments were conducted on a benchmark set of satisfiability problems that were compiled at the University of Ulm in Germany. The computational results indicate that our approach is competitive with the state of the art.

Growth of Wind Waves with Fetch in the Sea of Japan under Winter Monsoon Investigated using Data from Satellite Altimeters and Scatterometer

  • By using wind vectors observed by NSCAT and significant wave heights observed by TOPEX/POSEIDON and ERS-2 altimeters, one-dimensional fetch growth of wind waves Is investigated under conditions of strong wind and high waves of the East Asian winter monsoon. The evolution of fetch-limited wind waves can be observed by the altimeters along the ground tracks. The fetch is estimated by using vector wind field observed by NSCAT. The derived growth characteristics of wind waves are compared with empirical relationships between the non-dimensional fetch and significant wave height proposed by previous studies. Good agreement with the empirical fetch graph formula normalized by the friction velocity is discemible, while the formulas normalized by the wind speed at a height of 10 m tend to underestimate the wave height under such severe conditions of high wind and very long fetch.

Numerical Analysis on Pressure Characteristics of the Pipe system of Train

  • With modem computational fluid dynamics method (CFD), air-charging models of the air brake pipe system and auxiliary reservoir are built. Compared with one-dimension model, no empirical formula is introduced to solve branch pipe fields for two-dimension model. A modified operator-splitting method is presented to solve the coupled equations of pressure and velocity, and numerical simulation shows that it is very stable. Compare the numerical results with empirical data of heavy haul trains in home and abroad so as to prove the correctness of the theory and algorithm presented. This paper gives theoretic reference to the experiments of braking effects of heavy haul trains, and forms a basis for development of complete freight train air brake system simulation.

  • As ships operating on the Arctic route are exposed to various ice environments such as level ice, pre-swan, pack ice, ice ridge and brash ice, it is essential to estimate the ice resistance according to the ice environment. Methods for estimating the ice resistance include a method using mathematical model, numerical simulation, and a method using empirical formula. In this study, empirical formulas are used to estimate the ice resistance. The purpose of this study is to develop the ice resistance and attainable speed estimation program(I-RES) for various ice environments.

Inclination angle influence on noise of cavitating marine propeller

  • In this study, the effects of inclined shaft angle on the hydro-acoustic performance of cavitating marine propellers are investigated by a numerical method developed before and Brown's empirical formula. The cavitating blades are represented by source and vortex elements. The cavity characteristics of the blades such as cavitation form, cavity volume, cavity length etc., are computed at a given cavitation number and at a set advance coefficient. A lifting surface method is applied for these calculations. The numerical lifting surface method is validated with experimental results of DTMB 4119 model benchmark propeller. After calculation of hydrodynamic characteristics of the cavitating propeller, noise spectrum and overall sound pressure level (OASPL) are computed by Brown's equation. This empirical equation is also validated with another numerical results found in the literature. The effects of inclined shaft angle on thrust coefficient, torque coefficient, efficiency and OASPL values are examined by a parametric study. By modifying the inclination angles of propeller, the thrust, torque, efficiency and OASPL are computed and compared with each other. The influence of the inclined shaft angle on cavity patterns on the blades are also discussed.

연직 슬릿 유공벽의 투수 매개변수의 마찰계수 산정 (Estimation of Friction Coefficient in Permeability Parameter of Perforated Wall with Vertical Slits)

  • 연직 슬릿 유공벽에서의 정합조건에는 투수 매개변수가 포함되는데, 보통 투수 매개변수는 두 가지 방법으로 계산이 가능하다. 하나는 투수 매개변수를 유공벽에서의 에너지 소산 계수와 제트의 길이로 나타내는 방법으로서, 관련된 모든 변수를 알고 있다는 점에서 장점을 가지고 있으나, 장파의 영역에서 옳지 않은 결과를 초래하는 단점이 있다. 다른 하나는 투수 매개변수를 마찰계수와 관성계수로 나타내는 방법으로서, 단파부터 장파까지 모든 영역에서 올바른 결과를 나타내지만, 반사계수, 투과계수 등에 대한 관측치와 계산치 사이의 최적적합에 기초하여 마찰계수를 결정해야 한다는 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 유공벽의 유공율 및 두께, 수심 등 기지의 변수로 마찰계수에 대한 경험식을 제시하였다. 이렇게 함으로써 최적적합 과정을 거치지 않고 마찰계수를 직접 산정할 수 있도록 한다. 경험식을 구하기 위하여 수리실험을 실시하였으며, 다른 연구자들의 결과를 함께 사용하여 경험식을 제시하였다. 제시된 공식을 이용하여 상부는 커튼월이고 하부는 연직 슬릿 유공벽으로 되어 있는 커튼월-파일 방파제의 반사계수 및 투과계수를 계산하였다. 실험치와 계산치가 잘 일치함을 보임으로써 제시한 경험식의 적합성을 검증하였다.

대수층 수리지질특성에 따른 인공함양시험 적용 방법에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Application Method of Artificial Injection Test according to the Hydraulic Conductivity of Aquifer)

  • 본 연구에서는 지하공간 개발로 인해 발생하는 지하수위저하, 지반함몰 등의 문제를 해결하는 방법 중 하나인 인공함양기술에 있어 지하수 함양에 결정적인 역할을 하는 지표매질 특성인 수리전도도(hydraulic conductivity)에 관한 적용성에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 경기도 이천에 위치한 인공함양시설의 설계조건을 동일하게 하여 양수시험과 주입시험을 수행하였다. 양수시험을 통해서는 지하수위를 회복하는데 있어 결정적인 역할을 하는 대수층의 수리상수값을 도출하였으며, 현장 대수층을 단순화 시킨 모델을 구축하여 양수시험 조건과 동일하게 적용한 부정류 해석을 수행하여 실측값과 모델값의 상관성을 검토한 결과 R2 = 0.78로 분석되었다. 동일한 조건으로 주입시험을 수행하였으며, 주입되는 지층은 실트질모래와 점토질모래로 구성된 퇴적층에서 시험을 진행하였다. 주입시험을 통해 측정된 결과를 통해 시간-수위 자료로부터 대수층의 매개변수를 결정하는 대표적 우물해석해인 Thiem의 공식을 활용하여 경험식을 유도하였으며, 유도된 경험식과 실측값의 상관분석을 수행한 결과 R2 = 0.99의 높은 상관성을 가지는 경험식을 유도하였다. 본 연구는 주입시험이 수행되기 어려운 지역에서 양수시험을 통해 결정된 대수층의 수리전도도를 활용할 경우, 특정 조건에서 신뢰도 높은 결과를 예측하는데 적절히 활용될 것으로 판단된다.
