An Empirical Study on the Relationships among Conflict between Employees, Authentic Attitude of Knowledge Creation, and Innovative Behaviors (구성원간의 갈등, 지식창출의 진정성 태도, 그리고 혁신행동 간의 관계에 관한 실증연구)

  • Many organizations require employee's innovative behaviors, since one way for organizations to become more innovative is to capitalize on their employees' ability to innovate. However, employee's frequent conflict not only causes serious damage to organizations, but also blocks the authentic attitude of knowledge creation and has a negative impact on the innovative behaviors of employees. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships among employee's task conflict and relationship conflict, employee's authentic attitude of knowledges creation, and innovative behaviors of employees in organizations. The result of analysis shows that the influence of task conflict on innovative behaviors is significant. And the influence of task conflict and relationship conflict on employees' authentic attitude of knowledge creation is significant. And the influence of employees' authentic attitude of knowledge creation on innovative behaviors is positively significant. Thus, the study provides researchers and practitioners with a matter of primary interest in knowledge creation as a driving force leading to innovative behaviors of employees, in which the authentic attitude of employees turns out to be an important psychological factor.

Effective shared process and application of knowledge management (KM) in interior design service industry

  • This paper addresses the importance of knowledge management (KM) and the relationship of that theory when applied to improving interior design organizational performance in four areas: people, processes, design products, and organizational performance. Included is the way knowledge theory manifests in three different professional settings: coaching and training, designing, and service settings. Knowledge management, although well established in interior design services, requires effort in coaching and training as motivation is a critical variable. Whereas, strategies for knowledge management vary from industry to industry given diversity in situational variables, knowledge in each professional setting can be significantly aided by capturing and storing empirical, tacit, and explicit information, providing real-time electronic storage and retrieval of information [5] and consistent with transformational theory, through opening communication channels across the full range of the organization, inspiring and motivating individuals, and aligning all members of the organization toward a common vision [8]. Professional settings discussed in this paper are:(a)an learning organization enumerated in KM; (b)designing factors for managing knowledge theory themes; and (c)service, effective, efficient, and innovative KM application that is relevant to the process of developing effective KM for interior design service organizations. Folded within each will be a discussion on KM's impacts on visions, strategies, costs, and organizational performance. It has reiterated the impact of KM on one level might lead to synergistic impacts on another. Thus, KM has the potential to produce several interconnected impacts on people, design products, processes, and organizations.

An Exploratory Study of the Development of a Performance Measurement Model for Knowledge Management for use by Government Sponsored Research Institutes (정부출연 연구기관의 지식관리 성과 측정모형 개발을 위한 탐색적 연구)

  • This research reviewed previous research related to Performance Measurement Models of Knowledge Management (PMMKM) in order to integrate their findings with more recent research and construct a new PMMKM. This new hypothetical PMMKM consists of an input sector, a process sector, an outcome sector, and an infrastructure sector. Each sector has three measurement items with the exception of the infrastructure sector which has two. Empirical analyses testing the overall performance model validity of the hypothetical PMMKM were favorable. However, it show be noted that the "share process" and "utilization process" items in the process sector merged into one single item. The same is true with the "individual outcome" and "organization outcome" items in the outcome sector found one single item. The study's results reveal three implications with respect to performance. First, there are derived integrated performance measurement sectors and items based on overall management process of knowledge management, which can be practically applied to the government related research entities. This became apparent after extensive review or previous theoretical studies related to the public sector and private sector. Second, weighted performance measurement of knowledge management using AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) Analysis makes it possible to propose PMMKM in government sponsored research institutes. Finally, measuring performance to management knowledge, as shown in this study, will prove useful for inside and outside experts who propose specific guidelines and methodologies for Knowledge management at government sponsored research institutes.

CNC Torch Path Generation for Laser Cutting of Planar Shapes (2차원 자유형상의 레이저 절단을 위한 CNC 공구경로 생성)

  • In this paper, we propose a knowledge-based method for generating CNC torch path for laser cutting of the outlines of planar shapes. The proposed method consists of two main phases: laser cutting knowledge construction and CNC torch path generation using the knowledge. In the first phase, cutting experiments are conducted on various operating parameters, and then empirical data are stored and analyzed to make up the knowledge of laser cutting. With this knowledge, we can inquire what a kerf width is for specific operating parameters. In the second phase, using the knowledge of laser cutting, CNC torch path is generated for cutting the outlines of the given planar shapes. This phase is basically based on the offset generation of each outline by a sequence of arc splines, where the offset distance is the same as the half of the kerf width determined from the constructed knowledge. The proposed method based on laser cutting knowledge makes full use of arc interpolators in CNC torch path generation. The method can efficiently reduce the number of path segments while keeping the torch path within the desired accuracy.

The Role of Brand Knowledge in Explaining Relationship between Brand-Centered Communications and Brand Commitment: Evidence from Public Banks Pakistan

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to examine the extent to which internal brand communication (IBC) impacts on brand commitment (BC). Research design, data, and methodology - A structured questionnaire has been built and distributed on a total sample of 650 banking staff working in five public banks in Pakistan. Results - The findings of PLS-SEM revealed that besides the indirect effect of internal brand communication (IBC) on brand commitment via brand knowledge, the study also exposes a direct positive effect of IBC on brand commitment. This study also reveals that brand commitment is affected by brand knowledge and internal brand communication practices. The result of mediation reveals that brand knowledge partially mediated the relationship between independent and dependent variables. Practical implications- This study empirically validates that internal brand communication and brand knowledge are prerequisites for brand commitment. Therefore, managers, particularly in-service enterprises, should provide sufficient IBC practices and appropriate brand knowledge to enhance employees' brand commitment. Conclusions - The comprehensive analysis of the impact of brand knowledge on the proposed relationship. It further adds up to the branding literature, which is mostly qualitative and lacks empirical validation.

Effects of Safety Climate on Safety Behavior and Safety Performances in Logistics : Mediating Effects of Safety Knowledge and Safety Motivation (물류 안전 분위기가 물류 안전행동 및 물류 안전성과에 미치는 영향 : 물류 안전지식과 물류 안전동기의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between logistics safety climate, logistics safety behavior, and logistics safety performance and the mediating effects of safety knowledge and safety motivation, and to suggest its strategic implications for the improvement of the logistics safety performance. Based on previous researches related to logistics safety, safety climate, safety knowledge, safety motivation, safety behavior and safety performance, research models and hypotheses were set up and questionnaires were conducted. For the hypothesis test, reliability analysis and validity analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation model analysis, and bootstrapping were applied. As a result of the empirical analysis, the logistics safety climate had a significant positive effect on logistics safety knowledge, logistics safety motivation, and logistics safety behavior, whereas logistics safety knowledge and logistics safety motivation had a meaningful positive effect on logistics safety behavior. Further, logistics safety behavior was found to have a significant positive effect on logistics safety performance. Safety behavior had a significant mediating effect, but safety knowledge and safety motivation did not. However, logistics safety climate, logistics safety knowledge, and logistics safety motivation did not have a significant effect on logistics safety performance.

  • Home economics education professional knowledge consists of empirical interpretive critical science component. Thus it is imperative that the alternative research perspectives be used to gain certain knowledge for the profession of home economics education. In human inquiry and education there is a growing concern that the dominant research paradigm positivist natural science model is inadequate to address the phenomena constructed by persons. However, Home economics education has not examined and almost utilized alternative research perspectives. This review will probe research logic and resecrach methodology of qualitative inquiry within home economics education and highlight the shift from positivism to post-positivism.

Problem Finding and Creativity (문제발견과 창의성)

  • The previous empirical research suggests that problem finding is more important than problem solving in the creative process. Problem finding is increasingly recognized in theories of creativity. In spite of the importance of problem finding, there is little research to explain problem finding in Korea. This article reviews the research about problem finding and examines the nature of problem finding, the type of problems, the relation of problem finding and problem solving, the relation of problem finding and creativity, and the serendipity. Finally, theoretical and educational implications are discussed.

The Influence of Learned Helplessness and Failure Tolerance on the Academic Achievement and Job Performance (학습된 무기력과 실패내성이 학업성취도와 직무성과에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of lifelong learners' learned helplessness and failure tolerance on academic achievement and job performance. The result of this empirical study exhibits that learned helplessness has negative effects on their academic achievement and job performance. Failure tolerance, however, has positive effects on their academic achievement and job performance. In addition, their academic achievement has mediated between learned helplessness and/or failure tolerance, and job performance. This study suggests that lifelong learners' positive response to failures is helpful for both learning and working performances.

R&D Activities, Imperfect Competition and Economic Growth (R&D 및 불완전경쟁과 경제성장)

  • Ideas do not become exhausted, and there are no diminishing returns in the creation of knowledge. Nonetheless, growth ultimately ceases in this simplest model of endogeneous innovation. The reasons are similar to those that are discussed in the context of the neoclassical model of capital accumulation. Even if the resource cost of creating new goods does not rise, the economic return to invention may decline as the number of available products increases. When the rate of return to R&D falls to the level of the discount rate, private agents cease to be willing to defer consumption in order to invest in product development. But, if we treat knowledge capital as a public capital considering of its non-appropriable benefits, economic growth can be sustained in the economy. Romer(1986) has pointed out that growth might be sustainable if the accumulation of knowledge is not subject to long-run diminishing returns. Actually Romer assumed diminishing returns in the production of private knowledge from available resources, but increasing returns in the production of output from labor and total (public and private) knowledge. His condition for the sustainability of long-run growth amounts to an assumption that the diminishing returns in the former activity do not outweigh the increasing returns in the latter. The Johansen(1988) cointegration test method is used for finding long-run equilibrium relationship between R&D input and the product innovation. Test results indicate the existence of cointegrating equation between each pair of regression variables including dependent variable in the knowledge production function. And, the signs of cointegrating vectors are well accord to the prediction of sustainable growth. In the empirical analysis, from all cases of the form for the knowledge production function, we could not reject the null hypothesis that R&D spillover effect is significant($H_{0}:\;{\gamma}=1$). In summary, we showed that considering goodness of fit of regression model, we can see that the empirical evidence is strongly in favor of the character of knowledge as the public knowledge capital. So, we can expect that by product innovation, economic growth can be sustained in the Korean economy.
