The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between child's emotional intelligence and stress according to child's sex. The subjects for this study were 380 children of 5-6th grade selected from elementary schools in Busan. Kwak's questionnaires(1994) on child's emotional intelligence and Han, Mi-Hyun's questionnaires(1996) on child's stress were used. Statistical techniques such as Manoya, Pearson's correlation, canonical were used. The results were as follows : (1) According to sex, there were significant differences in child's emotional intelligence and stress. The girls showed higher emotional expression, emotional empathy, emotional control, and the friend-related stress than boys. The boys showed higher parent-related stress than girls. (2) There were significant negative correlations between child's emotional intelligence and stress. The children who got higher emotion intelligence perceived lower stress. (3) Among five dimensions of emotional intelligence for boy, the effective variable was emotional utilization. And among six dimensions of stress, the effective variables were home-environment stress and school-related stress. Among fine dimensions of emotional intelligence for girl, the effective variables were emotional expression and emotional recognition. And among six dimensions of stress, the effective variables were friend-related stress and parent-related stress.
Background: The present study aims to investigate job stressors and stress relievers for Korean emotional laborers, specifically focusing on the effects of work conditions and emotional labor properties. Emotional laborers are asked to hide or distort their real emotions in their interaction with clients. They are exposed to high levels of stress in the emotional labor process, which leads to serious mental health risks including burnout, depression, and even suicide impulse. Exploring job stressors and relieving factors would be the first step in seeking alternatives to protect emotional laborers from those mental health risks. Methods: Using the third wave data of Korean Working Conditions Survey, logistic regression analysis was conducted for two purposes: to examine the relations of emotional labor and stress, and to find out job stressors and relievers for emotional laborers. Results: The chances of stress arousal are 3.5 times higher for emotional laborers; emotional laborers experience double risk-burden for stress arousal. In addition to general job stressors, emotional laborers need to bear burdens related to emotional labor properties. The effect of social support at the workplace is not significant for stress relief, unlike common assumptions, whereas subjective satisfaction (wage satisfaction and work-life balance) is proven to have relieving effects on emotional laborers' job stress. Conclusion: From the results, the importance of a balanced understanding of emotional labor for establishing effective policies for emotional laborer protection is stressed.
Objectives: The purposes of this study is to examine the relationship between emotional labor and burnout among dental hygienists. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 247 dental hygienists from September 4 to October 9, 2014. The questionnaire consisted of emotional labor, job burnout, and job stress. Emotional labor included frequency of emotional expression, compliance with emotional regulation, emotional diversity, and emotional dissonance by the instrument pf Morris and Feldman. Job burnout was adopted from Maslach burnout inventory(MBI). Job stress was adpoted from instrument of Chang. Except 13 incomplete answers, 234 data were analyzed by AMOS 18.0 and SPSS 18.0 program. Results: The emotional labor has a significant positive relation to the job burnout. There was a statistical significance between emotional labor and job stress. Job stress had a positive relation to job burnout. Job stress had a mediating effect between emotional labor and job burnout. Emotional labor had a direct effect on the job burnout. Job stress also had a mediating effect on job burnout. Conclusions: It is necessary to improve working environment that can enhance emotional balance and to develop job stress management program.
Purpose: The purpose of this research is to understand the relationship between emotional labor and job stress for clinical nurses. Method: The information for this research has been gathered in method of questionnaire for 202 nurses working in a hospital from January 30 to February 10, 2006. Results; The emotional labor for clinical nurses showed 2.43 on a scale of 4 and the job stress showed 49.84 out of 100. The correlation between the emotional labor and job stress showed that the emotional labor was higher, job stress was also higher. The result was that the factors that influenced the emotional labor were health status in a subjective point of view, working department, and the personality. The factors that influence job stress were self-efficacy, working department, and health status in a subjective point of view. Conclusion: The result of the research showed that emotional labor and job stress for clinical nurses were high and the strategy for reduction in those two areas is needed. Especially, diversified plans for job demand and occupational climate in an area of job stress that is correlated to emotional labor will be needed to minimize the emotional labor and job stress.
The purpose of this study is explore stress, problem solving and emotional intelligence in nursing students. Participants were recruited from December 2016 to February 2017 by web base survey. The participants were 237 who nursing students in university. Stress, problem solving and emotional intelligence were assessed using two questionnaires; Korean version of the Perceived stress inventory (PSI), problem solving, and Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS). The responses 237 students were analyzed statistically. Significantly emotional intelligence was a correlation stress and problem solving (p>.001). The findings showed that problem solving (${\beta}=.386$), stress (${\beta}=-.259$, empathy ability (${\beta}=.144$), and satisfaction with a major in nursing (${\beta}=.129$). Our finding show that stress levels of low and the problem solving levels of above moderate in emotional intelligence. Especially, the problem solving was important factor in emotional intelligence.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify the effect of stress on the relations between emotional intelligence and burnout among nursing college students. Methods: The study is a cross-sectional survey and the participants were 363 students attending a nursing college located in Seoul. Data were collected by convenience sampling using self-reported questionnaires that consisted of general characteristics, emotional intelligence, perceived stress and burnout. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, correlation, and multiple regression. Results: Findings of the multiple regression were as follows. First, emotional intelligence had a significant negative-effect on stress. Second, emotional intelligence had a significant negative-effect on burnout. Third, stress had a significant positive-effect on burnout and had a mediating effect on the relationship between emotional intelligence and burnout. Conclusion: Results of the study suggest that as a way to reduce nursing college students' stress and burnout, programs which help improve nursing college students' emotional intelligence should be developed and implemented.
Objectives : The study set out to analyze correlations between emotional labor and job stress among dental hygienist, who have direct and lasting relationships with patients in dental clinic, and provide basic data to resolve stressors and manage stress. Methods : A survey was taken among dental hygienists working at dental clinics, and 200 questionnaires were used in analysis. The gathered data were put to Cronbach's alpha with the SPSS WIN12.0 program to test the reliability of the inventories to measure their emotional labor and job stress. In addition, correlation analysis was conducted to examine relations between the items of emotional labor and those of job stress along with regression analysis to examine relations between emotional labor and job stress. Finally, t-test and One-way ANOVA were conducted to test mean differences in the job stress items according to the degrees of emotional labor with the statistical significance level set at 0.05. Results : 1. The measurement tool used in the study recorded 0.7 for all the areas of Cronbach's alpha for internal reliability and thus achieved high reliability. 2. The overall mean of emotional labor was 2.74, which indicates that the dental hygienists had 'average' or higher stress for emotional labor. 3. Emotional labor had statistically significant relations with educational background, place of work, motivation to choose to be a dental hygienist, and religion of their general characteristics. 4. There was statistical significance in relations between general characteristics and job stress according to educational background, position at work, and experience with change of occupation. 5. The correlations between emotional labor and the stress areas were analyzed. As a result, emotional labor was in positive(+) correlations with job demand, lack of job autonomy, relational conflict, job instability, organizational system, and corporate culture. In addition, regression analysis was conducted to test causal relations between emotional labor and job stress. The results indicate that there were positive(+) influences between emotional labor and job stress. Conclusions : The results show that emotional labor can serve as a mediating variable for job stress in dental clinic. Thus both dental clinics and dental hygienists need to have ways to deal with job stress derived from emotional labor in which they are forced to process their emotions according to the dental clinics' demands, properly. The study will hopefully trigger ongoing follow-up researches on the deployment of dental hygienists according to their job characteristics and the situational variables to alleviate the negative results of emotional labor.
Purpose: This study aimed to improve nursing practice efficiency by analyzing and comparing the emotional labor, job stress, and performance of nurses in comprehensive nursing care wards and in general wards. Methods: The study surveyed 151 nurses in comprehensive nursing care and general wards. The results were analyzed by ${\chi}$ 2test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: There were no statistically significant differences in terms of emotional labor, job stress, and performance for the two different types of nurses. Statistically significant positive correlations were noted between job stress and emotional labor, nursing performance, emotional labor, and job stress in the comprehensive nursing care wards, and between job stress and emotional labor, and nursing performance in the general wards. Conclusion: A longer duration of direct nursing in comprehensive nursing care wards tended to increase, emotional labor and job stress. However, the quality of nursing provided to patients tended to improve. Therefore, it is necessary to establish an institutional plan for carrying out efficient nursing while reducing emotional labor and job stress among nurses in comprehensive nursing care wards.
Purpose: This study was to investigate the relationship among emotional intelligence, self-efficacy and job stress of nurses. Method: Data was collected from convenient sample of 265 nurses who work for a university hospital in a city. The Questionnaire measured the level of emotional intelligence, self-efficacy and job stress of nurses. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, scheffe' test, pearson's correlation coefficient and hierarchical multiple regression. Result: The mean score of emotional intelligence was 3.41(${\pm}.37$), self-efficacy was 3.27(${\pm}.45$) and job stress was 3.35(${\pm}.65$). There were significant differences on self-efficacy according to age, marital status and education level. And there were significant differences on job stress according to age, working unit. It was a significant positive correlation between emotional intelligence and self-efficacy. The emotional intelligence and self-efficacy were significantly negative correlation with job stress. The emotional intelligence explained 24.8% of self-efficacy and 1.9% of job stress and self-efficacy explained 2.7% of job stress. And the self-efficacy was showed a mediate variable between emotional intelligence and job stress. Conclusion: To decrease job stress, nursing managers ought to develop the emotional intelligence and self-efficacy of nurses, reinforce as a mediating role between emotional intelligence and job stress
The purpose of this study was to investigate emotional intelligence and stress coping styles of adolescents. The study also identified the differences of emotional intelligence and stress coping styles between normal adolescents and juvenile delinquents. The subjects in this study were 447 adolescents included 249 normal adolescents and 198 juvenile delinquents. The major findings as follows: First, there were significant differences on emotional intelligence between normal adolescents and juvenile delinquent. Normal adolescents had higher level of emotional intelligence. However there were no significant differences on stress coping styles except wishful thinking between normal adolescents and juvenile delinquent. Second, there were overall positive correlation between emotional intelligence and stress coping styles. However regulation of emotion showed negative correlation with stress coping styles. The result of Canonical Correlation revealed that emotional facilitation of thinking among five sub-domains of emotional intelligence was the best contributor to predict stress coping styles of adolescents.
